Rejected by the Alpha’s Blind Heart Chapter 1

I followed behind Alpha Kamden for three hundred years.

On the ninety-ninth time he abandoned me, I finally stopped in my tracks.

I offered myself to the rogue portal seal, vanishing completely from his world.

Alpha Kamden’s eyes turned red, vowing to search for me from the highest peaks to the deepest valleys:

“Skyla, come back!”

But there was no longer a Skyla who would follow behind him.

==============================

“Skyla, are you certain about this? Sealing the rogue portal is no small task. One misstep, and you could be utterly destroyed. Even if the Moon Goddess grants you the chance to restore your inner wolf, you’d still need to survive to see it through…”

My gaze was unwavering. “Elder Jasper, I’ve made up my mind. Protecting the balance between packs is the sacred duty of the Phoenix Pack. I am the most suitable to seal the rogue portal. Besides, I have no attachments left in this world.”

Was there truly nothing left to hold me here?

I lowered my eyes, the image of that tall, commanding figure threatening to surface, but I pushed it down harshly.

The three Elders—Jasper, Arlo, and Brock—looked at me with pity. “You are the last of the Phoenix Pack… If you fail, it will mean the end of your lineage. Are you truly resolved?”

Their hearts ached for me. In their eyes, I was still a child.

Werewolves reached adulthood at eighteen. I had only lived for three centuries.

These three hundred years had been spent confined to the Xuanqing territory, never experiencing the wonders of the human world or the beauty of the wilderness.

If the Phoenix Pack were still intact, at my age, I would still be nestled in my parents’ care, their cherished treasure.

Now, this young, untested werewolf was about to gamble her life for the sake of all packs.

I tilted my head up, smiling brightly. “The Phoenix Pack was born from the essence of the Moon Goddess. Our ancestors protected the balance for countless millennia. Today, this responsibility falls to me, and I will carry it out just as they did.”

Someone had to make the sacrifice. The path had been laid out by those who came before, and even if it was a slim chance, it was still a chance.

A weathered hand rested gently on my head. Elder Jasper’s eyes were rimmed with red. “Go and prepare. We’ll give you three days. Say your goodbyes, and don’t leave any regrets.”

I touched the pouch and the Elder’s token now hanging at my waist, tears welling in my eyes. With a grateful nod, I hurried away from the rogue portal.

Three days. For me, it was more than enough.

Seven years. Seven long years since I'd last set foot in New York City. The skyline stretched before me, a glittering canvas of ambition and betrayal. I stood on the balcony of our Manhattan penthouse, the cool evening air caressing my skin. My fingers absently traced the platinum band on my left hand—a habit I'd developed whenever the past threatened to overwhelm me. "You're thinking about them, aren't you?" I didn't need to turn to know Leonardo had joined me. His presence was like a physical force, powerful and reassuring. The mate bond between us hummed with his concern. "They're just ghosts, Violet," he said, his arms encircling me from behind. His chin rested on my shoulder, his breath warm against my neck.
Alpha Rejected True Mate Novel Cover

The greenhouse was my sanctuary in a pack house that had never felt like home. Dawn hadn't yet broken when I slipped inside, the familiar scent of damp soil and blooming flowers wrapping around me like an embrace I'd long been denied elsewhere. My fingers trembled slightly as I reached for the watering can—a weakness I couldn't afford to show outside these glass walls. I focused on the white lilies, my favorites. Their pure petals reminded me of what I once was—hopeful, untainted. Before the mate bond that became my prison. "You're wilting too, aren't you?" I whispered to a drooping bloom, gently supporting its stem. My wolf, Luna, whimpered softly in the back of my mind. Once silver and strong, she now barely stirred, weakened by the sickness that had been consuming us both since I gave too much blood to save William three years ago. A sudden tremor ran through my bones, stronger than the usual morning weakness.

The bass from the karaoke bar pulsed through my chest like a second heartbeat, each thump making my temples throb. I watched Lucca laughing with his pack brothers, his arm slung casually over Delta Marcus's shoulder as they belted out some terrible rendition of an old pack anthem. The crowd was a sea of familiar faces from Silvermoon, all here to celebrate our territory's founding anniversary. I'd been smiling for two hours straight, playing the perfect Luna-to-be, but the noise was finally winning. 'I need some air,' I murmured to Mira, who nodded with understanding before turning back to her own conversation. The cool night air hit my face like a blessing as I slipped through the bar's side door. Silvermoon territory at night was beautiful—the trees rustled gently, and moonlight painted everything in silver and shadow. I took a deep breath, letting Selene, my wolf, stretch contentedly within me. For just a moment, I could pretend I was alone with the night sky. Then I heard Lucca's voice.
