Chapter 1

I was a high-ranking Warrior and the Fated Mate of Kael, the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack.

For two years, he delayed our Marking ceremony, claiming the pack wasn't ready for a Luna.

But one freezing night, while my cabin flooded and he refused me shelter, I saw a stray Omega named Selene posting pictures from his private living room.

He had taken her in.

Soon, he was giving her my sacred healing herbs and letting her sleep in the main house—privileges he denied me even when I returned bleeding from rogue attacks.

Then, Selene stole my hard-earned defense plans and framed me for destroying them.

Instead of trusting me, Kael used his Alpha Command to force me to apologize to her.

He even posted a video publicly humiliating me to the entire pack to appease her fake tears.

"I formally apologize to Selene for Elara's cruel behavior."

I waited for him all night in the freezing rain at our sacred grove to hear his explanation, but he never showed up.

When I called him the next morning, it was Selene who answered from his bed, bragging that he had stayed with her all night to soothe her soul.

My four years of loyalty and love were treated like absolute garbage.

I didn't shed another tear.

I packed my bags, formally resigned as the pack's Defense Commander, and initiated the sacred Rejection ritual.

"I, Elara, reject you, Kael, as my mate."

If he wanted to protect a weak Omega, he could keep her. I was going back to my ancestral pack to claim my true power.

Chapter 1

Elara POV:

A squall of summer rain hammered at the walls of my timbered cabin, the old glass in their frames rattling as if in a fever-fit. Upon the roof, the downpour beat a furious tattoo, the sound of some great beast clawing for entry.

I stood by the window, watching the ancient defense runes carved into my doorframe flicker and fade.

The ward was failing again.

I picked up my smartphone, my fingers trembling slightly from the cold as I dialed Kael's number for the fourth time tonight.

He was my Fated Mate, chosen by the Moon Goddess herself to be my other half.

He was also the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, the supreme leader whose word was absolute law to every wolf in our territory.

"Kael, the ward is broken," I said when he finally answered, my voice tight. "The storm is flooding the floorboards. Let me stay at the Alpha Estate tonight."

A heavy sigh came through the speaker.

"Elara, we have been through this," Kael's voice was deep, laced with the natural authority of an Alpha. "You know how it looks. The elders won't approve us sharing a roof before the Marking ceremony. "

The Marking was the final step, the permanent bite on a female's neck that tied two souls together forever.

He had been delaying our Marking for two years, always claiming the pack was not stable enough for a Luna celebration.

The Luna was the mother of the pack, the Alpha's equal, the anchor to his wild nature.

"It's just for one night," I whispered, watching a dark stain of water bleed from the ill-fitting doorframe, creeping like a sluggish tide across the floorboards toward my boots.

"Don't make this difficult," he replied coldly. "I will send the pack builders in the morning. Goodnight, Elara."

The line went dead.

A hollow ache spread through my chest, heavy and suffocating like a stone pressing down on my lungs.

I wrapped a thick woolen blanket around my shoulders and sat on my soaked bed, waiting for the dawn.

To distract myself from the freezing wind, I opened the werewolf community network on my phone.

The very first post on my feed made my breath catch in my throat.

There, smiling at the center of the screen, was Selene—a stray Omega we'd taken in barely a month ago.

Omegas were the most vulnerable among our kind, naturally submissive and slight, meant to be protected.

The photo showed Selene holding a mug of hot cocoa.

But the background was unmistakable.

It wasn't her face that stung my eyes. It was the grand fireplace of Kael's private living room behind her, flanked by the nineteenth-century silver candelabras that belonged to him alone.

My hands shook as I remembered Kael's words from yesterday afternoon.

I had asked him to patrol the southern border with me, but he had refused, saying he had urgent Pack business to attend to.

He had been picking up Selene.

When the morning light finally broke through the storm, an older pack builder arrived to fix my roof.

I stood in the corner, silent tears sliding down my cheeks as the exhaustion and the bitter reality washed over me.

The builder paused his work, offering me a look of deep sympathy.

"You are a strong Warrior, Elara," the old man murmured softly. "Don't let the rain drown your fire."

His kindness only made my throat burn more.

I wiped my face, my Inner Wolf—the primal beast that shared my soul—whimpering in the dark corners of my mind.

I decided to look at my phone one more time.

Selene had posted a second update.

It was a video of prime venison roasting over a fire.

Venison was a sacred meal, usually reserved only for a Fated Mate on the night of the full moon.

In the frame, Kael's strong hands were turning the meat, and he was flashing a doting, indulgent smile at the camera.

I scrolled down to the comments.

Selene had replied to another Omega: "I know, right? I got the side wing of the main house just by asking. He is a god-tier Alpha!"

A bitter laugh escaped my lips.

I remembered three months ago, when I returned from a rogue attack with my arm torn open, bleeding heavily.

I had asked to sleep in the estate for safety.

Kael had sent me away in the middle of the night, claiming the scent of blood would upset the elders.

When my pre-heat symptoms started—the terrifying fever that consumed a female wolf's body before the full moon—he had locked me in the pack hospital, refusing to hold me.

Yet, this stray Omega was living in his home.

Suddenly, a voice echoed directly inside my head.

It was the Mind-Link, the mental bridge that connected the consciousness of our pack.

Elara, get some rest. The storm has passed, Kael's voice echoed in my mind, casual and light.

I see we have a guest, I replied through the link.

I bit down on my back teeth, forcing back the bile rising in my throat, and pushed through the link a handful of syllables flat as dust.

Selene needed shelter. As your Alpha, I command you to respect my decision. From now on, clear it with me before approaching the main estate, Kael ordered.

The Alpha's Command rolled through the link, a heavy, invisible pressure that forced my knees to weaken, demanding absolute obedience from my wolf.

I cut the connection, gasping for air.

My phone buzzed with a final notification.

Selene's third post was a selfie.

Her cheek was pressed tightly against Kael's jaw.

Her sweet, cloying scent was practically oozing through the screen, mixing with Kael's dominant aura.

Kael despised un-Marked females touching him.

He used to say his skin belonged only to his Mate.

Staring at the screen, the last spark of hope in my soul quietly turned to ash.

And in its place, something cold and hard began to grow.
