Rejected by the Alpha, Claimed by the King

“I, Darius Castellano, future Alpha of the Silverfang Pack, reject you, Serena Moreno, as my mate,” he said, his voice cold and distant. A sharp, searing pain pierced through me. When Darius Castellano—my mate and the future Alpha of the Silverfang Pack—rejected me in front of the entire pack, at the coming-of-age ceremony where I had just learned he was my destined mate, the world didn’t shatter. Not right away. No, it was slower than that. Like watching cracks spiderweb across glass—knowing it will break, but feeling powerless to stop it. My legs trembled, but I refused to fall. “No,” I whispered, barely able to hear my own voice... Heartbroken and filled with despair, I walked away from the pack. Then, during a rogue attack, I was saved by a powerful and commanding alpha king. To my astonishment, I discovered he was my true mate. How could this be? I knew that werewolves sometimes had a second chance at love, but could this really happen to me? When Alpha Darius finally realized he couldn’t live without me, he came, begging for my forgiveness. Chapter 4

The whispers turned into more than just words.

Little things started happening. My training gear disappeared. My meals vanished before I could get to them. Someone spilled water on my papers during a meeting, offering a fake apology as the pack laughed behind me.

I tried to endure it, to stay strong, but the weight of it all was suffocating.

It all came to a head one night.

I returned to my room after another long day, my steps dragging with exhaustion. As I approached my door, I noticed it was slightly ajar.

My stomach sank.

Be careful, Asha warned, her tone sharp.

I pushed the door open and froze.

My belongings were scattered everywhere. My clothes were ripped, my books torn apart. The small mirror on my desk was shattered, shards of glass glinting in the faint moonlight.

But it was the word scrawled across the wall that sent a chill down my spine.

“UNWORTHY.”

The pack meeting two days later was supposed to be routine, but the tension in the air told me otherwise.

I sat near the back of the hall, keeping my head down as the pack gathered. Liana stood at the front, radiant and poised, her golden hair gleaming under the chandeliers.

When she smiled, I knew something was coming.

“I’m so sorry to interrupt,” she said, her voice sweet and apologetic, “but I have something important to share.”

Darius, standing beside her, raised an eyebrow but said nothing.

Liana turned to face the crowd, her expression carefully composed. “It’s come to my attention that one of our own has been... dishonest.”

Whispers rippled through the room as she continued.

“An heirloom belonging to my family has gone missing,” she said, placing a hand over her heart. “It’s a priceless piece, one that holds great sentimental value.”

“And I’m heartbroken to say that I believe Serena is responsible.”

Three years ago, I bought a dress for a ceremony that kept not happening. It was deep blue silk, simple, the kind of thing that hung in the back of my closet through three different seasons of excuses. Pack duties. Training cycles. Bad timing. I took it out tonight because Colby had asked me to. He had set the dining table at the Alpha house himself, no staff, no Beta hovering in the doorway, no Gamma's daughter wandering through with a fake question. Just two place settings, two candles, and a small bowl of white roses he must have picked up in town. For the first hour, I almost let myself believe it. "You look beautiful, Nat," Colby said.

I was reviewing the pack's mind-link communications when I felt it—that familiar tingle of connection that meant someone was using the private channel reserved for pack leadership. My fingers froze over the crystal communication stone as Dahlia's voice filtered through, not meant for my ears but impossible to ignore when she was broadcasting so loudly. "Alpha, I can't wait for our private training session tonight," her voice purred through the link. "I've been practicing those moves you showed me last time. I think I'm finally ready to take it to the next level." There was a pause, and then her voice again, lower this time. "Our special connection feels stronger every day. It's like the Moon Goddess herself is pulling us together." My stomach twisted into knots as I sat frozen at my desk. The mind-link was supposed to be sacred—reserved for pack emergencies and official business. Not for... this.
