Rejected by the Alpha, Claimed by the King

On Thanksgiving, my mate suggested a night skiing trip, and along the way, we picked up his "blast from the past." What was meant to be a romantic getaway for two suddenly became an awkward trio. Sensing my frustration, Alpha Legacy Clark of the Silver Fang Pack tried to ease my mind with a smile, "Luna Estrella, don't overthink it. I'm just doing this as a favor for her brother." But Arabella Elliott, a rogue werewolf and a skiing novice, refused to hire an instructor and instead begged Legacy for lessons. Without hesitation, he started giving her private coaching. As expected, Arabella lost control and crashed into me, despite my pregnancy. Her ski pole pierced my abdomen, leaving me in a pool of blood, my life hanging by a thread. Meanwhile, Legacy didn't even glance my way, his focus entirely on comforting Arabella, who’d merely taken a minor spill. In that instant, I realized this mate bond was beyond saving. As I lay on the ground, feeling the blood drain from my body, Legacy was oblivious. His attention was solely on soothing the teary-eyed Arabella.

Chapter 1

On Thanksgiving, my mate suggested a night skiing trip, and along the way, we picked up his "blast from the past." What was meant to be a romantic getaway for two suddenly became an awkward trio.

Sensing my frustration, Alpha Legacy Clark of the Silver Fang Pack tried to ease my mind with a smile, "Luna Estrella, don't overthink it. I'm just doing this as a favor for her brother."

But Arabella Elliott, a rogue werewolf and a skiing novice, refused to hire an instructor and instead begged Legacy for lessons.

Only the onlookers, alarmed for my well-being, finally called for the pack healer.

Overwhelmed with pain and fear, I weakly called out to Legacy, "Alpha... it hurts so much... Save me, save our pup..."

But he ignored my pleas, his eyes full of empathy for Arabella, murmuring to her, "Don’t worry, Bella, I'll stay right here with you."

Cold, pain, and fear engulfed me as I watched him lavish attention on someone else. Despair consumed me, and I closed my eyes.

The sound of the pack healer approaching came closer, and they rushed over. Just as I thought help was at hand, Legacy pulled one of them aside, looking frantic, "You have to help Arabella first; she's in shock! Check if she's seriously injured!"

His frantic demeanor was etched into my memory. The healers were directed towards Arabella without a chance to speak.

Finally, when he paused, a healer tried to explain, "Alpha, please, I need to attend to the Luna first, she's severely injured..."

Legacy didn't even look my way, insisting loudly, "I'm her mate. She’s fine. You must check Bella first!"

Tears began to fall as I quietly accepted my fate. After my parents' passing, Legacy had been my emotional anchor. But now, I felt no will to live.

Only after the minor scrape on Arabella's forehead was tended to did they come to assess me. By this point, I was barely conscious and was rushed into the healing den.

As the healers requested a family member to accompany me, Legacy showed no concern, taking Arabella and leaving the slopes behind.

While I was being prepped for surgery, Legacy was soaking in the hot springs with Arabella. As I underwent a major operation, he was lulling Arabella to sleep.

When the healers issued a critical condition notice, Legacy finally took the call. Upon hearing the situation, he merely said, "I know, I’ll be there soon."

But as time passed, he never showed up. With urgency in the air, I mustered the strength to sign the consent forms myself.

The healers were both anxious and gentle as they consoled me. Seeing my silent tears, one of them turned away, her emotions spilling over.

Signing those papers drained every ounce of energy I had left. As I lay on the healing bed with unfocused eyes, I made my final decision:

Legacy, this time, I'm truly letting you go.

I rushed through the corridors of the Pack House, my heart pounding against my ribs. The guards nodded respectfully as I passed, but their eyes held a pity I didn't understand. My mother had been imprisoned for three days now, accused of a crime I knew she couldn't have committed. Her fragile mind wouldn't allow her to harm anyone. "Please," I whispered to myself, "let him listen this time." I tracked Jaxxon's scent to his private office—the room where pack business was conducted, where decisions that shaped our lives were made. My mate, the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, had been avoiding me since my mother's arrest. Today, I wouldn't let him escape. I didn't knock. The door swung open under my desperate push. The scent hit me first—vanilla and musk, arousal and betrayal mingling in the air.

The greenhouse was my sanctuary in a pack house that had never felt like home. Dawn hadn't yet broken when I slipped inside, the familiar scent of damp soil and blooming flowers wrapping around me like an embrace I'd long been denied elsewhere. My fingers trembled slightly as I reached for the watering can—a weakness I couldn't afford to show outside these glass walls. I focused on the white lilies, my favorites. Their pure petals reminded me of what I once was—hopeful, untainted. Before the mate bond that became my prison. "You're wilting too, aren't you?" I whispered to a drooping bloom, gently supporting its stem. My wolf, Luna, whimpered softly in the back of my mind. Once silver and strong, she now barely stirred, weakened by the sickness that had been consuming us both since I gave too much blood to save William three years ago. A sudden tremor ran through my bones, stronger than the usual morning weakness.

The scent of fear and despair hung heavy in the air as the Alpha King's enforcers surrounded the Foster Pack’s estate. My sister, Solana Edwards, stood at the center of the chaos, her head held high, her defiance radiating like a storm. She had always despised what she called "dependent mates," those who relied on their Alpha’s protection. And today, her reckless words had doomed us all. At the pack gathering, she had mocked Luna Arya Hamilton, the Lycan Queen Mother, with her sharp tongue. "A true leader would never rely on her mate’s power to rule. A Luna is just a glorified dependent mate, clinging to her Alpha’s authority." Her words, dripping with disdain, had reached the ears of the Lycan King. Now, our pack faced execution, the males to be slaughtered, the females to be enslaved. Alpha Yousef Perry, the most notorious of the Lycan Princes, stepped forward, his presence commanding the room. His dark eyes flicked to Solana, a smirk playing on his lips.

The ink on the trade treaty with the Northern Timber Pack was barely dry. It had taken me six months of grueling negotiations, sleepless nights, and endless strategic maneuvering to secure these borders, but looking at the signature on the final page, I knew it was worth it. This treaty would secure the Silver Crescent Pack’s prosperity for another decade. I smoothed the skirt of my emerald evening gown, the silk cool against my fingertips, and walked down the hallway toward the Alpha’s office. The Unity Gala was already in full swing downstairs; the floorboards vibrated slightly with the bass of the music and the stomping of feet. I wanted to give Hayden the good news before we made our entrance. I wanted to see his eyes light up, to hear him acknowledge that we had done this together. I was a fool. As I reached the heavy mahogany door, my hand raised to knock, a sound stopped me cold. It was laughter.

The grand ballroom of the Crescent Moon Pack house glittered with crystal chandeliers and silver decorations. I smoothed down the front of my ceremonial white dress—the one I'd spent weeks selecting for this moment. Tonight was supposed to be everything I'd waited five years for. "Luna Elowyn," I whispered to myself, practicing the title I'd soon bear. "Finally." My wolf, Aria, stirred inside me. *We deserve this. We've earned this.* I took a deep breath and stepped through the massive oak doors. The crowd parted as I entered, and I felt their eyes upon me—some sympathetic, others curious, a few even hopeful. Five years as Damien's fated mate without an official marking ceremony had left the pack unsettled. Tonight, that would finally change.
