Chapter 3

The final day.

I was locked in the storage room by Theo in a fit of rage.

"Without my permission, not even a drop of water is to be given to her!"

Sylvie knelt outside, weeping and pleading.

"Alpha Cruz, you cannot do this to Luna Iris! She carries your pup, eight months along. Even if she can endure this, the child cannot..."

Theo didn't hear a word.

Meanwhile, Liliana, who had slipped during the pack run but was unharmed, slapped Sylvie viciously.

"Wretched Omega, I am the Luna of the Cruz Pack now! Iris Young is nothing but a rogue’s mate. That child in her belly is likely a rogue’s spawn!"

Sylvie was livid, trying to confront Liliana but was held back by her minions.

"You really are a loyal dog," Liliana sneered. "But your precious Luna won't survive past tomorrow night."

Sylvie kept vigil outside the storage room all night.

The next morning, when the Marshall Pack’s SUV arrived, Theo finally opened the door.

"Drink this," he ordered, motioning for a Delta to bring me a cup of dark liquid.

"It's a tonic to ease your pregnancy. After drinking it, go and serve Alpha Marshall properly."

I scoffed.

He gripped my chin, his Alpha aura pressing down on me.

"Iris, the mate bond between us runs deep. If you return alive, I promise to provide for you and the child."

He forced me to drink.

"This is the finest tonic, it will protect our pup."

I lowered my lashes and accepted the cup.

He thought I didn't know.

That it was actually a concoction to induce miscarriage.

I had overheard them the night he brought Liliana back.

She had said plainly,

"Since Iris won't last much longer anyway, there's no need for that pup."

Theo had hesitated. "But..."

Liliana hooked her arms around his neck, her scent overpowering.

"Darling, you still have the child I carry, don't you? You promised me our pup would be the heir."

In the end, Theo had agreed.

Still, I drank it without hesitation.

My child, don't blame your mother. You simply came at the wrong time.

I was lying in a sterile hospital room, dying of cancer, with only a fake infertility report to keep me company. Right before my heart monitor flatlined, a stranger walked in and handed me a medical file. He told me that my fiancé, Garret, had zero sperm viability. The baby my adoptive sister, Beryl, was carrying wasn't his. When Beryl got pregnant years ago, my adoptive parents forced me to break my engagement and take the blame for being barren. I was discarded by Garret, mocked by Beryl's triumphant smiles, and kicked out of the house. I was left to rot alone in a hospital bed while they lived the perfect life stolen from me. My entire existence had been a cage built on a single, disgusting lie. The anger burned away my despair. Why was I the only one who didn't know? Why did I let them use me as a maid and a shield for their filthy secrets? As the darkness swallowed me, I prayed for just one more chance. I opened my eyes to the sound of my adoptive mother yelling my name. The calendar on the wall read March 15, 2019—the exact day they forced me to give up Garret. This time, I didn't cry or beg. "You want Beryl to have Garret? Fine," I told my shocked adoptive parents. "But I want a cash buyout, and we are legally severing this adoption." Then, I set my sights on Douglass Ward—the stranger from the hospital room.

I lay on a mildewed mattress in a run-down motel, my body trembling from withdrawal. Once the most feared "Gossip Queen" in Hollywood, I was now a forty-three-year-old ghost staring at a cracked mirror, waiting for the end. The door clicked open, and Brittany Potts stepped in, looking immaculate in a beige trench coat that cost more than my life. She didn't come to help; she tossed a waiver of marital assets onto my bed and handed me a cup of coffee laced with something that smelled like bitter almonds. She laughed, telling me my husband, Bennet, was already in the Bahamas celebrating my death. I froze when I saw the sapphire pendant around her neck—my mother’s necklace, which had vanished the day she died. As the poison began to burn through my chest, Brittany leaned in and whispered her final secret: she was the one who cut the brake lines on the car that killed my father when we were teenagers. My entire life had been a lie. The pills, the scandal, the bankruptcy—it was all a masterpiece of betrayal orchestrated by the two people I trusted most. I died on that filthy floor, suffocating on my own rage and the taste of chemicals, praying for a single chance to make them pay. But when I opened my eyes, the pain was gone. I was sitting in my old bedroom, the morning sun shining on a calendar that read September 15, 2024. My mother’s voice, warm and alive, called me for breakfast from downstairs. I was eighteen again, back in my senior year at Crestview Academy, and the monsters who destroyed me were still pretending to be my friends. This time, I’m the one who holds the shears.
