Rejected by My Alpha, Replaced by His Luna Novel Cover

Rejected by My Alpha, Replaced by His Luna

Ezra's rise to Alpha should have sealed her fate as Luna, but instead it severs the mate bond, freezing his mark and leaving her abandoned in the corridor, the ceremonial cloak still in her hands. Replaced by a new chosen one, she must navigate a pack that no longer sees her as worthy. Yet the bond, though shattered, whispers with a dangerous, obsessive hunger—refusing to fade. As secrets and forbidden longing surface, she faces a choice: accept the rejection or fight for a love that destiny itself seems determined to destroy.

Chapter 3

The rain started an hour after Ezra forced me to my knees.

I didn't feel it at first. I was still sitting on the floor of my room, staring at the blood seeping through my pants where the stone had split my skin open. The mark on my neck had gone completely numb. When I pressed my fingers to it, I felt nothing—not heat, not cold, just scar tissue that might as well have belonged to someone else.

My wolf was still awake. Still hot beneath my ribs. Still calculating.

I stood slowly. My knees screamed, but I ignored them. I crossed to the small desk and pulled out the ward journal—the one I'd been keeping since I was fourteen, the one that mapped every anchor point, every ritual schedule, every thread of magic I'd been holding together alone.

I flipped to the first page and traced my finger down the list.

Twelve anchor points. The first one was six miles south, near the wild jasmine grove at the border's edge. The place I'd spent most of my adolescent nights working while the rest of the pack slept.

I grabbed my jacket and walked out.

No one stopped me. No one even looked.

The rain hit when I reached the tree line. Cold and steady, the kind that soaked through fabric in seconds. I kept walking.

The bond flickered once—a weak pulse, like Ezra had felt me leave through the mind-link he'd shut me out of. I waited for him to reach back. To ask where I was going. To do anything that acknowledged I still existed.

Nothing.

I walked faster.

The jasmine grove appeared through the trees like a pale smudge in the dark. I'd planted the first cluster myself when I was fifteen, after I'd realized I'd be spending half my nights here maintaining the ward. The scent hit me before I saw the flowers—white jasmine and rain and soil, the smell that had become my wolf's signature without me ever choosing it.

I dropped to my knees at the first anchor point.

The soil was soft from the rain. I pressed both palms flat against it and closed my eyes.

The ward rose to meet me immediately.

I'd been doing this so long it was instinct—reaching out through the earth, feeling for the threads of magic I'd woven into Ironveil's border. But tonight, for the first time, I didn't just feel them.

I saw them.

A lattice of light spreading out from my hands in every direction. Twelve anchor points connected by lines so intricate they looked like veins. The entire border, six years of my life, an invisible structure that had kept three rogue raids from breaching Ironveil while the pack slept safe and never once asked why.

I traced one thread with my mind. Followed it south to the second anchor point, then east to the third. The ward was strong. Stable. Perfect.

I could undo it.

The thought came clear and cold, and my wolf surged in agreement.

I found the first thread—the one anchoring the jasmine grove point to the rest of the lattice—and pulled.

Not hard. Just enough to loosen it. To test.

The thread gave.

I felt the ward shudder. Felt the boundary weaken by a fraction, just a hairline crack in the shield. Not enough to let anything through. Not yet.

But enough to prove I could.

I held it there for three seconds. Felt the power of it. Felt what it would mean if I let go completely.

Then I re-secured the thread and pulled my hands back.

The rain was coming down harder now. I sat back on my heels, breathing hard, staring at the soil.

Six years. Twelve anchor points. One Omega who'd bled into this ground because no one else could and no one else had ever asked why.

I could walk away anytime I wanted.

I stood and turned back toward the pack house.

---

The mind-link attack came the next morning.

I woke to voices—dozens of them, flooding the pack network all at once. Not direct communication. Just the ambient chatter that ran through Ironveil's shared consciousness, the background noise of pack life.

Except this morning, my name was in every thread.

*—heard she used something to fake the bond—*

*—scent-enhancing herb, my cousin said—*

*—tricked him into marking her, can you believe—*

*—always knew she was too clever for an Omega—*

I sat up fast, my heart slamming against my ribs.

I reached for the mind-link, trying to trace the source. Trying to find who'd started it.

Every channel was closed.

I tried again. Pushed harder.

Nothing. Like I'd been cut off from the network entirely.

I dressed fast and walked into the corridor.

Three Deltas I'd trained with were standing near the stairs. When they saw me, they stopped talking. Turned away. One of them—Marcus, who I'd spent two years teaching combat drills—looked straight through me like I was invisible.

I kept walking.

The pack healer's office was on the first floor. My knees were still bleeding through the bandages I'd wrapped myself last night. I needed them cleaned properly before infection set in.

The healer took one look at me and shook her head.

"Can't treat you," she said flatly. "Contamination protocol."

"Contamination protocol for what?"

She didn't answer. Just closed the door in my face.

I stood there staring at the wood.

Contamination protocol. Like I was diseased. Like touching me would spread something.

My wolf stirred again—hotter this time, angrier, pushing against my ribs like she was trying to claw her way out.

I turned and walked toward the dining hall.

---

The midday meal was already underway when I arrived. The hall was full—Deltas at the long tables, Gammas near the hearth, the high table where Ezra usually sat with his inner circle.

I grabbed a tray and sat at the far end of one of the Delta tables.

No one spoke to me. No one looked at me.

I picked up my fork.

And then my wolf surged.

Not a whisper. Not a flicker.

A full, roaring wave of heat that exploded through my chest and down my arms, crackling under my skin like lightning.

The silverware on the table rattled.

Three Omegas sitting two seats down from me went rigid. Their heads dropped. Necks bared. Involuntary submission.

I slammed my hands flat on the table, trying to force it down. Trying to shove my wolf back into the small, silent space she'd occupied my entire life.

The aura subsided slowly. Reluctantly.

I looked up.

The pack healer was standing near the corridor entrance with a tray in her hands. She'd gone completely still. Staring at me.

Our eyes met for three full seconds.

Then she turned and walked away without a word.

I sat there, hands still pressed flat on the table, breathing hard.

My wolf didn't go quiet.

She settled. Watchful. Waiting.

And I understood, with sudden cold clarity, that something in me had just changed.

Something the pack healer had seen.

Something I didn't understand yet.

But something I was going to need.

I took a silver bullet for my fated mate, Derek, and fell into a coma for five years. When I finally opened my eyes, I wasn't greeted as a hero. I was handed a deportation order. Because I had burned out my wolf spirit to save his life, I was now "human" and useless to the pack. My marriage had been annulled years ago without my consent. I dragged my atrophied body to our home, only to find Derek with Anjelica, a woman I once called a friend. She was wearing my jewelry and carrying his heir. But the knife in my heart wasn't seeing them together. It was my son. My five-year-old boy, Errol, didn't run to me. He screamed in terror and sprayed me with a bottle of liquid he had been hiding. It hissed against my skin. Wolfsbane. "Go away, monster!" he sobbed, pointing the bottle at me like a weapon. "Mommy Anjelica said this burns the bad things!" I had lost my wolf, my husband, and my child. But they weren't done taking from me. When Anjelica faked a medical emergency, Derek signed a general proxy form. I was dragged into surgery, not as a patient, but as a harvest. I heard the doctor whisper, "She wants her dry." They thought draining my blood would kill me. They didn't know that my "human" shell was just a cocoon for something ancient. I escaped the hospital that night. Standing by the ocean, I threw my wedding ring into the waves. "I, Catherine, reject the bond." Miles away, Derek fell to his knees, vomiting blood as the connection snapped. He thought I was dead. He didn't know the White Wolf had just awakened.
