Chapter 4

I took the death certificate.

A person's life had turned into a weightless piece of paper.

I turned around and wanted to leave immediately. However, Justin reached out and snatched the certificate from me.

His facial expression looked horrible. "How is it possible..." he murmured.

Kelly, who stood beside Justin, looked at it. She covered her mouth with surprise. "Wow, this looks real. Where did you get it, Julia?"

Justin realized her insinuation.

He did not think further. He tore the death certificate into pieces and then threw it at me.

The sharp edge of the paper left a cut on my right cheek.

He sneered, "It's illegal to issue a fake death certificate. Nurse, how dare you cooperate with her to do this? Aren't you afraid of getting into trouble?"

The nurse frowned, "What are you talking about? Her daughter is really—"

"That's enough," Justin interrupted her rudely. He looked at me with disgust. "I feel sick when I see your hypocritical face!"

Suddenly, many reporters swarmed our location.

Countless microphones were pointed toward my face.

"Captain Davis, the heroic captain, do you have anything to say to us?"

"We understand that your daughter is the only fatality in this incident. What do you think about this?"

"Haha!"

A loud sneer attracted everyone's attention instantly.

The microphone and camera were immediately pointed toward Justin.

He raised his eyebrows slightly and said, "You've all been deceived by her.

"She made up a lie about her daughter's death to gain credit. The media actually believed her?"

A reporter asked in shock, "Mister, are you saying that Captain Davis' daughter isn't dead?"

Everyone looked at me when he said that.

The crowd started to discuss among themselves. Some were pointing at me, throwing me a disapproving look.

A rational person asked, "Mister, who are you to Captain Davis? Can we trust what you say?"

Justin replied, "I'm her husband, the father of the supposedly dead little girl. Do you think you can trust my words?"

Those words created an uproar.

Many spoke in criticism against me.

The microphones were pushed closer to my face, and some hit my chin.

Some even took out their cell phones to livestream the incident.

They insulted me viciously. "What's going on? Captain Davis, did you do that to make yourself look miserable to take credit?"

"Perhaps it wasn't her who landed the plane but the co-pilot? How capable can she be? She's just a woman."

"That makes sense. Maybe she made up the lie that her daughter was dead to take credit."

The live broadcast attracted a large number of viewers very quickly.

Over a million viewers were watching the live broadcast. Comments started to scroll through everyone's screens.

[She cursed her daughter to take credit? What kind of mother is she?]

[She's so disgusting. I feel sorry for the co-pilot.]

[Have you all heard? There was a thunderstorm earlier. She lied that her daughter had a heart attack to land first. The controllers at the tower didn't listen to her and insisted on landing the flights according to order. She cut off the connection with the control tower and flew to another place.]

[Oh, my god! That's terrible. In other words, this accident may have been caused by her.]

[Now we know the truth. She wanted to gain credit so desperately that she risked the lives of 300 passengers.]

The crowd was emotional. I was pushed to a corner; there was no way for me to escape.

Some people even took out water bottles, paper balls, keys, and other items and threw them at me.

I was struck so hard that my head started bleeding. I could only hide in the corner pitifully. I tried to explain. "Don't listen to him. My daughter is really—"

"Shut up!"

At that moment, Kelly, who was always gentle, pretended to help me. She whispered in my ear, "Just give up, Julia. There's no way you can beat me.

"After all, in Justin's mind, you're only a woman who's cheated on him."

I opened my eyes and looked at her.

The reason behind everything was finally revealed.
