Chapter 2

"Hurry up! Fix me already!" Frank clutched his crotch as he sweated with anxiety. Seeing how calm I was, he got even angrier.

"You witch, your own husband is sick, yet you don't even care? Do you have some other guy outside? Are you stalling on purpose so I'll be ruined forever so that you can run off with your lover?" He yelled.

Frank thought acting like this would force me to give him surgery right away, but I refused to play along.

No one knew Frank's condition better than I did. The drugs he had been taking included one with a limited window of effectiveness. Once this window closed, not even God could save him.

That was why Frank was so desperate.

I took my time as I asked, "From what I can tell, your problem seems to be caused by taking too much medication. Have you been taking anything that can cause adverse effects recently?"

Frank snapped, "No! I didn't take anything!"

I patiently kept asking, "Are you sure? Treating an illness isn't a game. You have to be honest so we can help you properly."

Frank became even more annoyed. "I said I didn't take anything! Can you help me or not? If a hospital this size can't even handle a minor case like this. I think you guys just want to go viral on the internet!"

I ignored his threats and tried to persuade him to get a proper checkup before the surgery.

Finally, Frank realized I was stalling. He whipped out his phone, shoved it in my face, and started recording while shouting, "Everybody, look at her! She's the one! I'm in pain here, yet she's forcing me to get pointless tests just to hit her targets! This hospital and these doctors don't care about their patients at all!"

His video quickly spread online. Netizens cursed me out with every insult one could imagine.

[Are doctors like her earning dirty money just for their own funerals?]

[Doctors are supposed to save lives, not squeeze every cent out of people! She should just go to hell!]

I watched Frank doing all this and coldly said, "Why not upload the part where your private parts stopped working, too, so everyone can see the full story?"

Frank's face turned dark. "Are you messing with me on purpose? You think it's something to be proud of that I'm crippled? You're just trying to humiliate me!"

I snorted icily. "I'm following the proper procedures. If you don't trust me, I can transfer your case to my other colleagues."

Frank instantly panicked upon hearing my words. "Don't you dare! Who else can fix me but you…"

He stopped mid-sentence and coughed awkwardly before looking away, pretending nothing had happened.

Watching him like this, I couldn't help but sneer inwardly.

So, he did know that only I could cure him? Yet he had still humiliated me repeatedly. In my past life, he had even ruined my reputation and handed my hard-earned promotion over to his so-called childhood sweetheart, who had done nothing but dab some disinfectant on him!

Maybe I had been too professional and treated him too nicely, making him take everything for granted.

Frank's commotion drew a crowd of patients and doctors, including his childhood sweetheart, Karen.

Just like in my last life, Karen put on her sweet act and pleaded with me to give Frank conservative treatment. "Dr. Janet, I know you're under a lot of pressure to hit your targets, but you can't just suggest surgery to every patient. As doctors, aren't we supposed to help our patients from worrying and spending beyond their means? You ignored what he told you and forced unnecessary tests. That's against medical ethics!

"Honestly, Mr. Frank's condition isn't even that serious. Conservative treatment should be enough. It's cheaper and better for the patient!"

Karen's words got the onlookers clapping and cheering for her. She was good at winning people over, so even some doctors sided with her.

"Doctor Karen is the real deal! It's already bad enough that we're sick, but these greedy doctors keep wasting our money! It's disgusting!"

"Yeah, doctors should have a conscience. Running unnecessary tests and surgeries just for promotions… It's disgusting!"

"And Janet is running for chief? She's not even worth comparing to Doctor Karen! Doctor Karen should be the chief!"

With everyone turning against me, Karen and Frank shared a satisfied look.

Their plan was working. Next, I was supposed to argue that Karen was wrong and then force Frank into surgery to save him.

But after what had happened in my last life, there was no way I would fall for it again.

Looking at their smug faces, I smiled and nodded. "Alright, then. Let Doctor Karen give Frank the conservative treatment."

Before the war, Omega Edmend promised, golden eyes fierce, "Wait for me. I'll make you my mate." I waited three years, through every desolate moon. When he returned, I stood in Luna's robes, trembling with hope. But his gaze, once warm, was ice. "To mate with her?" he scoffed. "Maybe-as a concubine." Laughter exploded. "Desperate enough to take scraps!" Edmend sneered, stepping close. "Pathetic, Ova. You thought you were worthy of me?" Then the command fell like a blade. "Strip her.
