Reclaiming the Luna’s Shattered Bond

When Dexter Stone was a rogue, cast out and wandering without a pack, I stood by him as his mate. I helped him reclaim his place in the werewolf world, supporting him as he rebuilt the Silver Crescent Pack and rose to the position of Alpha. But once he achieved success, he kept his muse, Kai Gonzales, a Delta warrior, close by. This “perfect love” of his could never have endured the hardships we faced together. Unlike me, the Luna who stood by him through thick and thin, she was merely a fleeting distraction. All those promises of loyalty and devotion turned out to be lies. They say those who betray sincere hearts end up swallowing a thousand needles. If Dexter wasn’t willing to face the consequences, I’d make sure he did. As I stepped out of the bedroom, Kai was already in the living room, straightening Dexter’s tie while going over the day’s schedule. Their intimate gestures were unmistakable, like a newly mated pair.

Chapter 1

I couldn’t help but remember the first time Kai had tied Dexter’s tie. I had been unwell, and Dexter had rushed to a pack meeting with his tie crooked. When he returned, it was perfectly straight. I had asked him, “Who fixed your tie?” He had replied, “Kai did!” I had raised an eyebrow and said, “She did a good job.” Dexter had just laughed it off, saying nothing more. Over time, I tied his ties less and less. He was always in a hurry, and I was always too late. By the time I noticed, the task had moved to Kai. But seeing her act so casually in our home, in the heart of the Silver Crescent territory, was a first.

People never know when to stop; they always push the limits. “Let me do it,” I said, stepping forward to brush Kai’s hands away. Her face tightened as she reluctantly stepped aside. Dexter frowned slightly, trying to duck out of the situation, but I held him in place. “What are you doing?” he asked, his alpha tone softening slightly. “Just fixing it,” I replied coolly. “Really? I think it’s a bit crooked!” He attempted to protest, but I ignored him. “Got any plans today?” I asked, my tone light but edged with steel.

Dexter replied stiffly, “Yes, I have pack meetings and won’t be back tonight.” “Did you forget what day it is today?” I questioned, my gaze piercing. Dexter furrowed his brow, using the opportunity to pull his tie away from my hand. “Don’t make a fuss, Estella. There’s work to do.” “Yes, Luna Harvey!” Kai finally found her chance to chime in, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “We working folks don’t make a big deal over Thanksgiving!” I chuckled softly, my smile sharp. “Thanksgiving? No, today is our mating anniversary,” I said, looking directly at Dexter. “Are you sure you want to bail on me today?”

I was certain Dexter wouldn’t. As expected, he paused, his previously indifferent demeanor melting away, replaced by guilt as he looked at me. “Sorry, I forgot,” he confessed, his voice low. Turning to Kai, he instructed, “Cancel today’s meetings and head back.” Kai’s expression darkened. “But Alpha Stone…” she began to argue, her voice tinged with desperation. “Go back!” Dexter insisted, his alpha tone brooking no argument. Kai left, her face marked with resentment and frustration. Ten minutes later, Dexter excused himself to the balcony, ostensibly for a pack call, which lasted a full half-hour. When he returned, he seemed at ease, likely having smoothed things over with his lover.

“Estella, I apologize,” he said, his voice softer now. “I’ve been too busy with pack matters recently and overlooked you. What gift would you like? I’ll make it up to you.” I toyed with the simple band on my finger, the one he had given me during our marking ceremony. “How about you buy me a ring? One from Tiffany would be nice,” I said, my tone light but carrying an undercurrent of challenge. Dexter suddenly took hold of my hand, gently stroking my ring finger. “This ring isn’t worth much,” he said, his voice tinged with nostalgia, “but I always hoped you’d wear it. I can get you another, but this one shouldn’t be replaced.”

I didn’t expect Dexter to say something like that, and it threw me off for a moment. When we had mated, he had been a rogue with nothing. He had spent his entire savings on a simple band for me, without even a small diamond. On one knee, he had offered it to me with trembling hands, saying, “Estella Harvey, I, Dexter Stone, Alpha of the Silver Crescent Pack, accept you as my mate, bound by the Moon Goddess’s decree.” Back then, he had been sincere, brave, with all his focus on me alone. He had even teared up when I nodded my acceptance. Sadly, the most changeable thing in this world is the heart of a werewolf.

I pulled my hand away with indifference. “Suit yourself, then,” I said, my voice cool and detached. The bond between us, once unbreakable, now felt like a fragile thread, fraying under the weight of his betrayal.

I stared at the computer screen, my fingers hovering over the keyboard as I edited Marcus's anniversary post. Five years together. The study was quiet except for the soft ticking of the antique clock that had belonged to Marcus's father—a wedding gift that symbolized the continuation of the Silvermoon Pack's leadership. "To my beloved mate, my heart's true home..." I read the words aloud, feeling a hollowness where warmth should be. It had been six months since we lost Emma. Six months of trying to breathe through the pain, of Marcus being my rock, my Alpha, my everything. I clicked to schedule the post, then absently scrolled through the pack's social media feed. Marcus was meticulous about maintaining our public image—the perfect Alpha pair leading the Silvermoon Pack with strength and grace. My finger froze mid-scroll when a familiar phrase caught my eye.

The familiar scent of pine and wild juniper filled my lungs as I crossed into Silvermoon territory. Five years. The night of our marking ceremony, my mate, Alpha Harlan Mills, threw me out of our chamber. He claimed he had an aversion to scents, and from that day forward, he imposed a rule: I had to scrub myself daily with a harsh medicinal solution before I was allowed near him. Five years passed, and my skin became raw and blistered, not a single patch untouched by the painful burns. One night, he returned drunk and pulled me into the chamber, pressing me onto the bed with a force I hadn’t felt in years. I froze, tears welling in my eyes, thinking maybe, just maybe, the nightmare was over. But at the last moment, he kicked me off the bed with a disgusted sneer. Three days later, I discovered my name on a plaque at the Moonlight Lounge, a notorious gathering spot for high-ranking werewolves. My first night was being auctioned off to the highest bidder. “I heard she was clinging to you that night,” someone jeered. “Alpha Harlan, you’re truly something, staying loyal to Robin even when she threw herself at you.

The silver moon charm bracelet felt cold against my wrist as I climbed the steps to our pack house, my heart racing with anticipation. Three years. Three years since Thomas and I had completed our mate bond ceremony, and I'd planned something special to surprise him tonight. The champagne was already chilling in our private chambers, and I'd even managed to get his favorite dessert from that little bakery in town. But as I reached the top of the stairs, something made me freeze. Sounds drifted from behind our bedroom door—intimate, breathless sounds that made my stomach clench with a terrible recognition. My hand trembled as I reached for the doorknob, my wolf whimpering inside my mind. *Annie, don't,* she whispered, but I couldn't stop myself. The door swung open silently, and my world shattered. Thomas had Natalia pressed against our dresser, his hands tangled in her dark hair as he kissed her neck with a passion I hadn't seen from him in months.
