Reborn to Tear Down That Dumb Beauty
Chapter 2
As expected, it hurt Elijah to watch Emily cry. He turned to me, yelling, "Julie, what are you doing? I know you're from a rich family and look down on us. But how could you throw out a gift from Em?"
My teammates spoke up too.
"Julie, you've crossed a line. Even if you don't care for Em's drink, you shouldn't have thrown it out. You humiliated her."
"Julie, you're at school, not at your home. Em is not your servant."
Emily looked at me through tears. She said miserably, "It's all my fault. Guys, don't blame it on Julie."
Turning to the people who had defended Emily, I announced coldly, "Anyone should know that it is against the competition rules to consume caffeinated drinks. Emily, are you unaware of that, or are you doing this on purpose?"
She immediately teared up, looking pitiful.
"Sorry, Julie. I can't do anything right because I'm slow. I can't even buy a proper drink for you."
Elijah patted Emily on the shoulder. "Hey, stop crying. Your eyes are gonna be puffed."
He turned to me. "Julie, do you have to be so petty? Em meant well. She didn't do it on purpose. Look, she can be slow sometimes, so you shouldn't bully her."
Speechless, I furiously slapped him on the face.
"She meant well, you say? What she's doing will ruin my competition. I can't afford to shoulder the consequences. She can save her kindness for you—I don't care about that!"
Elijah's eyes widened in shock. "Julie, you've gone mad. How dare you lay a hand on me?"
I rolled my eyes at him. "I did so because you're dumb."
Crying, Emily put herself between me and Elijah. She cried, "Julie, it's all my fault. I'm such an idiot—I can't get anything right. Just hit me. Don't let it out on Elijah."
I snickered before slapping Emily as well.
"Glad you know you're an idiot. Since you want to take the slap for him, I'll grant your wish."
Elijah was enraged after I hit Emily. He shoved me hard until I fell onto the ground, hitting my elbow against the stairs. I inhaled sharply from the pain.
Everyone frowned at the bruise that formed on my elbow. Some of them criticized Elijah, "Elijah, how could you hurt Julie? What if that affects her performance tomorrow?"
But his gaze was unforgiving.
"But Julie started it first. She hit me and Em."
I chuckled. "Yeah, I hit a woman who tried to ruin the competition for me, and my so-called boyfriend defended her. I'm gonna teach you a lesson, filthy couple."
Elijah immediately grew restless. "What are you talking about, Julie?"
I couldn't be bothered with him anymore, though. "Elijah, let's break up. I hope you and Emily get your happily ever after."
He glared at me in disbelief. "Julie Schumer, you'd better not regret your decision!"
Smirking, I merely grabbed my backpack and left.
…
The next day, I arrived at the competition venue. Our team was scheduled to play the tenth match.
While our team was warming up, Emily approached us with bottles of water. "I refilled everyone's bottles."
They accepted the bottles and thanked her.
She beamed at me. "Julie, I couldn't find yours. Where is it? I'll refill your bottle too."
I recalled that she had used that as an excuse to spike my drink with substances in my past life.
