Chapter 1

I was head over heels for Jonas Hayes, the cold and aloof scholarship student who saw me as nothing more than a walking wallet.

He took my credit card but refused to let me get close.

"Get lost. The sight of you and your filthy money makes me sick."

Using my wealth, he showered Clara Dove, the stunning campus bella from a humble background, with luxury gifts and even threw her a lavish birthday party at the city’s most exclusive hotel. Everyone envied him, believing he was a self-made billionaire.

But I didn’t care. I stayed hopelessly in love.

After graduation, I poured my entire inheritance into building a life with him, convinced I could win his heart.

During our honeymoon, he watched as I drowned, his voice ice-cold as he said, "Every time I think of how you used your money to control me, I wish you’d die sooner."

When I woke up again, I was back in my college classroom—the day Jonas asked me to top up his card.

This time, I wasn’t the desperate fool he remembered. I slapped him across the face with the card and sneered, "Even beggars know how to kneel and ask. What are you, a weed?"

"Suzy Johnson, why isn't your card working? You embarrassed Clara and me in front of everyone!" Jonas Hayes slammed the desk in frustration, holding my supplementary card as he glared at me.

Clara Dove patted his back with an exaggerated show of concern, her tone dripping with mockery. "Oh, Suzy, I get it. You’re jealous of how well Jonas treats me. But let’s be honest, having no money on credit? The only one who’s embarrassed here is Jonas, not you. What you did shows you don't care about Jonas at all!"

Watching their dramatic display, I suddenly remembered. This was the day Jonas rented out a hotel to throw Clara a lavish birthday party. Unfortunately, the bank’s system was under maintenance, and Jonas’ card hit its spending limit.

Instead of handling it maturely, he stormed out, leaving everyone behind to track me down at school. I hadn’t even been invited to the party, yet he berated me like I was responsible. Back then, blinded by my foolishness, I apologized profusely and even called the bank myself to remove the limit.

That incident cemented Jonas' image as the arrogant trust-fund heir and elevated Clara to the coveted role of his pampered queen. Remembering how that chapter of my life ended so disastrously, I pressed a hand to my pounding temple.

"Of course, the card didn’t work. It’s because this card doesn’t belong to you in the first place."

Without hesitation, I snatched the card from Jonas’ hand and slipped it back into my pocket.

Clara blinked in confusion at my swift and decisive actions, then turned to Jonas with wide eyes. "Jonas, what does she mean by that?"

Jonas’ face twitched with anger as he glared at me. "Suzy, you're just the daughter of a butler. How dare you disrespect me! I’ll count to three. Call the bank and lift the limit immediately, or don’t blame me for what happens next!"

I raised an eyebrow casually and said, "Sure, let’s not hold back."

Clara, seeing my audacity, immediately jumped in to criticize me. "Suzy, Jonas only funded your education because he pitied you, a butler’s daughter! And this is how you repay him?"

Her voice was loud enough for the classmates who had just returned to hear everything clearly. They chimed in one after another:

"Suzy’s lost her mind, daring to disrespect her own boss."

"Don’t you know? Suzy’s secretly in love with Jonas. This is just jealousy."

"How disgusting. She’s just a poor scholarship student. What does she have to compete with Clara?"

I glanced at the two standing in front of me. Clara was decked out in designer clothes and shoes I had gifted her, accessorized with jewelry and bags purchased with my card. Compared to me, who preferred simplicity, they indeed looked far more extravagant.

But when did dressing plainly become a reason to be humiliated?

Clicking my tongue, I turned to the classmates who had insulted me. "If you’re all so good at flattering Jonas, why did the hotel staff kick you out?"

Jonas’ face darkened like a storm cloud, and he lowered his voice threateningly. "Suzy, if you dare say another word, you’re finished!"

I looked at Jonas’ furious expression, my gaze laced with disdain. How had I never noticed it before? This so-called high-society golden boy, who acted distant and refined around me, relished playing the part of a flashy trust-fund heir in front of everyone else.

But without my supplementary card, I wondered how long he could keep up the charade.
