Chapter 1

Gianna POV

The chair hit the floor along with my body as I tried to stop myself from falling. Tears filled my eyes as I realized what was in the cake I just ate. wolf's bane, no doubt that it was wolf's bane, I have just been poisoned.

A cruel laughter filled the kitchen as Quinn, my younger sister, came out of her hiding place. She walked to where I was struggling on the floor and gave me a cruel smile.

"Quinn," I called out with a weak voice. I knew that Quinn didn't like me, but I was pregnant, and I didn't want my baby to die because of my foolish mistakes. "Please take me to the pack hospital."

Quinn ignored me and went to the table where the note and cake Alpha Nathan, my husband, had left for me. It was an apology note for suggesting that we should divorce. I didn't agree with his desire to divorce because I didn't want my child to grow up without a father. I want my child to be raised in a stable home, even if it meant pretending as though I was happy in my marriage with Alpha Nathan.

I have experienced the pain of being an orphan, along with the pain of having parents who are distant from me; my child must not go through that.

Quinn took the note, brought a lighter from her purse, and burned the note. "I knew that you were dumb, but I didn't know that you were this stupid, to think that getting rid of you is this easy," she said in astonishment.

Her hurtful words made me realize for the first time that I didn't know that Quinn was in my house before; how did she get in? Alpha Nathan wasn't the one who bought my favorite chocolate cake for me; it was Quinn. My husband wasn't the one who poisoned me.

"Quinn, why?" My weak voice was full of agony, and my heart broke when I couldn't feel my baby inside of me anymore.

Every part of my body was hurting because of the poison that had spread all over my veins, blood flow between my legs. I cried out, unable to contain the sadness I felt from my baby. My little baby was gone. From the front of the house, I heard someone slam the door and hurried to the kitchen.

"What have you done?!" Alpha Nathan yelled at me. With eyes that have turned blurry because of my tears, I gaze at him. I was in pain, but my husband didn't care; instead of helping me to the hospital and questioning Quinn about my situation, he was glaring at me.

"I told her not to do it." Quinn kneels down beside me and holds me as though she cares that I am dying. There were tears in her eyes. "I beg her, but Gianna won't listen to me. She is desperate because you want a divorce. She said that you would pity her and stay in the marriage if she suddenly lost the baby."

I was so shocked by Quinn's words that I couldn't say anything to defend myself. "it's not true, Quinn is ly_"

"What did you do to my child?!" Alpha Nathan growled at me. He was filled with anger; the slight changes in his eyes showed that his wolf was threatening to come out and rip me apart. "What kind of a mother are you?" Alpha Nathan approached me with a slow but dangerous step. "How could you have killed my child?"

Quinn left my side when Alpha Nathan was close to me. It broke my heart that he believes Quinn and won't even give me a chance to defend myself. Alpha Nathan was my mate; my relationship with my parents could never be special, so I had so much hoped that my relationship with Alpha Nathan would be different.

"I cursed the day I got married to a woman like you." Alpha Nathan strangled my neck; his voice was filled with hatred.

My hands were too weak to struggle against him as he stole the life I had away from me. My body became numb, and my vision completely dark. I thought back to how my life had been so far, from being with my parents from birth only for me to mysteriously get lost at the age of 3, when my parents found me again. I was in an orphanage home, and I was 12 years old. I came back to meet Quinn, who had already been adopted by my parents. Before they found me, they had lost hope of seeing me again. They had given their whole heart to Quinn when they found me, and even though I was their real daughter, they had no space for me in their heart. Alpha Nathan, who was my fated mate, was destined to love me, but he couldn't. I have lived a life of no love, a hellish life. I wish I could start all over again. I imagined tears dropped out of my eyes as I felt myself fading away.

"Whoa," my mother said with an excited voice, "Quinn was right about this dress; it looks perfect on you. I wonder what type of wedding dress Quinn would pick for herself on her wedding day.

Even on my wedding day you won't stop talking about Quinn. Quickly my hands covered my mouth as I looked at myself in the mirrors with wide eyes; I was in a wedding dress, and the thought that almost came out of my mouth wasn't new; I remember thinking the exact thought on the day of my mating ceremony, when I was getting married to Alpha Nathan.

What is going on? I thought as my hands went to my throat, searching for alpha Nathan's hands, but there was nothing; I was sure that I was strangled to death, but being in this luxurious room with my mother, who stopped contacting me after my wedding to alpha Nathan, felt real.

"Is this hell?"

"Gianna, what's wrong with you? I know that you are excited, but you need to stop acting weird." Mom said.

I reach out my hands to touch her face, but she slaps my hands away. This is real, I thought. Somehow, I have gone back in time to the day I got married to Alpha Nathan.

"I need to take a picture of you, but I can't do it without your sister. Wait here for me while I go get your sister." Mom left the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

My hands formed a fist in anger as I thought of Quinn and Alpha Nathan. I don't know how I have traveled back to the past, but I'm not going to let myself make the same mistake I did in my past life; I'm not getting married to alpha Nathan. No matter what, I need to put a stop to this wedding.

The camera flashes were blinding, a relentless storm of lightning that left spots dancing in my vision. I forced the corners of my mouth upward, plastering on the smile I had practiced in the mirror a thousand times. It was the smile of a future Luna—perfect, poised, and completely hollow. "Closer," a photographer shouted from the press pit. Alpha Adrian Hayes tightened his grip on my waist. To the world, it looked like a possessive, loving embrace. To me, it was a vice. His fingers dug into the silk of my dress, bruising the skin beneath. "Smile brighter, Haisley," he hissed in my ear, his voice a low growl only I could hear. "You look like a corpse.

The autumn wind whispered through the sacred burial grounds as I knelt before Jake's gravestone, my fingers tracing the etched name that represented my last true family connection. The weathered gray stone stood among dozens of others—all that remained of the once-proud Moonridge Pack. "I miss you so much, Jake," I whispered, my voice catching as I placed three handmade moon charms at the base of the stone. Each one was crafted from silver wire and moonstone beads, a tradition our pack elder had taught me before she too was gone. "It's been three years, but it still feels like yesterday." The wind picked up, rustling the leaves around me. In my imagination, it carried Jake's response—warm, protective, telling me to stay strong as he always had. I closed my eyes, letting a tear slip down my cheek. "The pack healer says I'm healthy," I continued our one-sided conversation. "But I lost another one, Jake. Four months, just like the others." My hand instinctively went to my flat stomach, the phantom pain of loss lingering despite my inability to feel physical discomfort.

I felt it before I saw her—a disturbance in the air, like the moment before lightning strikes. The hairs on my arms stood on end as I arranged flowers in the pack house dining room, preparing for tonight's full moon ceremony. "Luna, have you heard?" Ellie whispered, her omega status evident in her hunched shoulders as she hurried toward me. "The European Lycan Council delegation has arrived, and—" The main doors burst open before she could finish. A wave of murmurs swept through the room as a group of wolves entered, but my eyes locked on only one—a woman with flowing auburn hair and piercing green eyes that scanned the room like a predator. Sophia Blake. My fingers tightened around the vase I was holding. My wolf, usually so quiet and submissive, growled deep within my mind. Five years. It had been five years since Dominic had rejected her, choosing me instead.

The dining hall buzzed with warmth and laughter as pack members gathered around the long oak table, celebrating my pup's three-month milestone. Candles flickered against the stone walls, casting dancing shadows that should have felt cozy but instead seemed to mock the hollow ache in my chest. I moved between the kitchen and dining area, serving platters of roasted venison and fresh bread, my hands steady despite the exhaustion that had plagued me since childbirth. "Look at those little fingers," Beta Marcus's mate cooed, leaning over the bassinet where my son slept peacefully. "He's going to be strong like his father." Alexander sat at the head of the table, his Alpha presence commanding attention as usual. Savanna occupied the seat to his right—a position that should have been mine as Luna, but I'd grown used to serving rather than sitting. She wore a pristine white dress that emphasized her glowing skin and perfectly styled blonde hair, a stark contrast to my simple gray tunic that hung loose on my still-recovering frame. "The nose is definitely Alexander's," Elder Catherine observed, her weathered hands clasped in front of her. "But those eyes... they're quite unique." I set down a bowl of honey-glazed carrots, my wolf stirring uneasily within me.
