Chapter 1

To earn formula money, I chase clout all over the entertainment industry.

But the one person I never go after is Best Actor Aiden Vaughn.

Until I brought my son onto a parenting reality show, and he desperately tried to glom onto the Best Actor.

"Are you sure this isn't my son?" the Best Actor asked, his face dark.

I shook my head frantically.

My son, however, raised the baby bottle in his hand. "Mommy, didn't you say we're not supposed to lie?"

1

My name is Chloe Keane. I'm a C-list celebrity in the entertainment industry, known for my "clout-chasing."

What can you do? I have to earn formula money, or my son and I will starve.

I go around clout-chasing A-list starlets and hype-driven celebrities. But there's one person I absolutely will not touch: Best Actor Aiden Vaughn.

So, when I ran into Aiden Vaughn while on a parenting reality show with my son, I completely froze.

'Didn't I tell Ms. Lee I absolutely could *not* appear on the same show as Aiden Vaughn?!'

The show had six guests in total: three were there with their kids to showcase their family dynamic, and the other three were there to get a taste of parenting.

All six guests were reasonably well-known figures in the entertainment industry, like popular singer Ethan Ward. In fact, he was the one I'd come to clout-chase.

'But I seriously never imagined this show had enough pull to actually get Aiden Vaughn?!'

I numbly sat down on the sofa, already cursing out my agent in my head.

To smooth things over, the director had us all introduce ourselves and our children. Just as I finished, Aiden Vaughn suddenly cut in.

"Ryan Vaughn. That's a nice name."

The room fell deathly silent, and several pairs of curious eyes darted back and forth between us.

Instead of feeling pleased by the Best Actor's compliment, my whole body went rigid with tension.

I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to endure this awkward hellscape.

Little Ryan Vaughn, on the other hand, broke into a wide grin at the comment. He happily launched himself at Aiden Vaughn and wrapped his arms affectionately around his leg.

"Ryan! Get back here!" I called out frantically.

Aiden Vaughn froze for a second, too, just staring at Ryan Vaughn without a word.

Just when everyone thought he was about to lose his temper, Aiden Vaughn suddenly reached out and patted Ryan's head.

"Ryan... a very nice name." His voice was gentle, and a faint smile played on his lips.

The tension in the room finally dissipated.

The rumor that Aiden Vaughn disliked children was well-known. Word was, a kid had peed all over his face when he was just starting out, and ever since, he'd scowl at the mere sight of a child.

And that's precisely why I was so shocked.

'Aiden Vaughn was on a parenting reality show?'

But I soon understood why he was here.

Because the final guest, arriving fashionably late, was Jade Sinclair.

Reborn Heiress: My Family's Bitter Karma Novel Cover
7.9
On my eighteenth birthday, the celestial pact hiding my aura finally expired. I stood on the rotting steps of the trailer, watching my foster family celebrate my eviction like they’d won the lottery. Brenda threw a liability waiver at me to sign, ensuring I’d never ask for a dime of their welfare checks again. Worse, her daughter Regina stood there smirking, flaunting the heirloom emerald bracelet she’d stolen from my secret stash—unaware it was a spiritual artifact soaked in fifty years of blood magic. "Consider it payment for room and board, freak," Regina sneered, forcing the silver band over her wrist. They thought they were discarding a burden. They didn't realize I was the only dam holding back a tidal wave of their own bad karma. As I signed the papers, voluntarily severing our ties, the air pressure plummeted. The bracelet began to constrict like a snake, turning Regina’s flesh a necrotic purple as the protection I offered vanished. Before they could scream, a matte black helicopter bearing the Sterling Industries crest descended onto the muddy lawn, blowing their plastic lawn chairs into the neighbor's yard. A man in a bespoke charcoal suit stepped out, ignoring the filth to bow before me. He looked at my terrified foster family and announced, "We are here to retrieve the Sterling heiress." I smiled at Regina, whose arm was already beginning to rot, and whispered, "Keep the bracelet. You'll need it to pay for the amputation."
