Chapter 1

Chapter 1

During my confinement period, my mother-in-law posted contraception items that my husband and I use during intimate moments on TikTok.

She captioned it: [Young people nowadays really have no restraint. They haven't even finished confinement but are already luring men.]

I immediately posted a photo of my mother-in-law cheating with my father-in-law's brother beneath it.

With the caption: [Older folks really have more tricks up their sleeves.]

1

Just after putting the baby to sleep, I opened TikTok wanting to scroll through videos and relax a little.

Adeptly, I clicked on the message bar, replying one by one to friends and family who shared videos with me.

As I scrolled down, I unexpectedly saw a TikTok shared by a stranger asking me [Grace, is this you?]

Looking at the avatar, I recognized it as a former colleague from my previous job and then clicked on the shared video. As soon as I opened the video and saw the caption, my face turned beet red.

The video was secretly taken by my mother-in-law this morning when she called me to get up and make breakfast for Joshua Lynn. In the video, I was sleeping soundly on Joshua's arm, the camera panned right revealing a blurry condom, then suddenly zoomed in to intentionally enlarge the image of the condom.

With the caption [Young people nowadays really have no restraint. They haven't even finished confinement but are already luring men.]

Fury coursed through me, my heart pounding fiercely. Just last night, it was her son begging me and I couldn't bear to refuse, but now she's spreading rumors online.

It seems feeling sorry for a man really leads to bad luck.

2

The whole time shuddering, I shared the video with Joshua Lynn and told him to quickly tell his mom to delete it.

TikTok's friend recommendation feature is incredibly strong; even my former colleague saw the video.

I shudder to think what Mom, Dad, neighbors, and relatives would think if they saw this video!

After a while, Joshua's message came through [Isn't what my mom said true? You were pretty enthusiastic last night!] Followed by two vulgar emojis.

[Just kidding, honey, you aren't mad, right?]

[Besides, it's hardly recognizable as us, it took me a while to figure it out.]

I immediately sent him a screenshot of my colleague who shared the video with me [See for yourself, this is from my former colleague.]

To my surprise, he replied [Your former colleague is quite observant, huh? You've gained dozens of pounds and he still recognized you.] Accompanied by a jealous emoji.

Looking at Joshua's words, my heart throbbed with pain, my blood freezing, I took a deep breath, looked at the baby beside me, and forced myself to calm down.

3

I immediately stood up and went to my mother-in-law's room, getting straight to the point [Mom, delete the TikTok video you posted this morning.]

My mother-in-law pretended to be clueless [What TikTok video? Haven't you been following me? I haven't posted anything today!]

Noticing her phone's screen was still on, I snatched the phone from her hand, opened TikTok, and checked her posts; the top pinned video was indeed mine.

I clicked on it to delete it, but my mother-in-law rammed me in the stomach, making the phone fly out.

Ignoring the pain in my belly, I picked up the phone only to find the screen shattered beyond use.

Meanwhile, my mother-in-law gloated beside me [The phone is broken, lucky for me, my son will just have to buy me a new one.]

[This is my most liked video on TikTok, there's no way I'm deleting it.]

Fuming, I slammed the phone to the ground, completely demolishing it [Tonight, if Joshua comes back and the video isn't deleted, I'll charge you with invasion of privacy.]

[Besides, the bank card is with me, whether you can get a new phone depends on me!]

4

Back in my room, I watched the video my mother-in-law posted over and over; it already had 1000 likes and over 2000 comments.

The comments criticized the daughter-in-law, some remarked on her looks, asking if she wanted to hang out as insults flooded the section.

Just as I was about to screenshot and send them to Joshua, the baby awoke, forcing me to set the phone aside to tend to the baby.

When Joshua came home from work at night, he first complained about me breaking his mother's phone, saying it would cost money to get a new one.

I snapped back: [She deserved it!]

[Also, read the comments on the video before talking to me!]

Joshua said: [They're just mothers-in-law criticizing their daughters-in-law, what's so interesting about that?] And dodged the point. All those insulting words about me, and he said nothing.

I opened TikTok, reading the comments aloud to Joshua: [The daughter-in-law looks good, let's hang out!]

[The daughter-in-law has big breasts, great figure, your son's lucky.]

[Cooking together is still a must!]

[Is this what you call scolding the daughter-in-law?]

Just as I was about to read more, someone suddenly opened the door from outside, my mother-in-law barged in aggressively:

[Spending my son's money, yet criticizing my son.]

[When others mention your bust size, it's a compliment on your figure. It's your own dirty mind that's twisting their comments.]

[According to the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China, Article 246 [Crime of Insult] [Crime of Defamation] involves publicly insulting others or fabricating facts to slander them, under severe circumstances, carrying a sentence of imprisonment of not more than three years, criminal detention, control, or deprivation of political rights.]

I had no desire to argue with her, so I played the lawyer's audio response from the afternoon inquiries on my phone.

Upon hearing it, Joshua hurriedly pulled his mother outside.

Twenty minutes later, Joshua came in holding a bouquet of jasmine, smiling ingratiatingly [Honey, don't be angry, mom has deleted the video and admitted her mistake, see, mom even asked me to buy you these jasmine flowers, your favorite.]

I opened my phone and checked my mother-in-law's homepage; the video was indeed deleted.

[Don't be angry, honey, I was wrong, mom was wrong too. It will never happen again.] Looking at Joshua in front of me, I felt exhausted.

Seeing me silently not responding, Joshua couldn't be bothered to coax me further, leaving the flowers behind, he said he would sleep in the study and left.

6

Lying awake all night, I still couldn't fall asleep.

My family is from a fourth-tier city in the neighboring province; I'm an only child. Although my parents are divorced and each has remarried, neither side withholds their love and care for me.

When I told them I was dating Joshua Lynn, my family objected. My mom often called to share stories about daughters who married far away and ended up distressed. And those who married far away without seeing their parents before they passed.

At the time, I found it annoying, and even rejected a departmental introduction from my dad by saying: [Isn't it because Dad and Mom didn't know each other well before getting married that led to your divorce?]

Seeing they couldn't change my mind, my parents eventually agreed to my engagement and marriage to Joshua Lynn.

Yet all of a sudden, I heard faint sounds coming from the study, so I got up and pressed my ear against the wall, but could only vaguely make out voices. It seemed to be my mother-in-law and Joshua.

Remembering the stethoscope I bought to prevent the baby from getting sick, I took it out and placed it against the wall. The sound came through clearly, word by word, into my ear.

[Your wife is really being delicate! Just exposing some arm and chest, and insisted on deleting it!] My mother-in-law complained to Joshua.

[Mom, you shouldn't have, you should've let me post it for you and block Grace directly, it wouldn't have led to this mess!]

[I just forgot! But don't worry, I reposted it on my side account too.]

[You're really something, Mom. Has your following increased recently?] My heart pounded like a drum, fury surged through me. Joshua evidently knew about this, and was very likely the mastermind! The thought of him exploiting his own mother to make money made my skin crawl. I want a divorce! Divorce!

Suddenly, a memory struck me from when I was four months pregnant, where Joshua would subtly suggest every day after work that the economy was slowing, year-end bonuses were halved, and after the mortgage, his salary wasn't enough.

He would also mention someone's wife becoming an online influencer, earning a hundred thousand in a month. In hindsight, he was hinting I should make those suggestive videos too?

Meanwhile, my mother-in-law cheerfully said: [The followers on my alt account are soon hitting 10,000. If it weren't for your dad stopping me from making TikToks a few years ago, I'd be a top influencer by now.]

[Would've surely taken down that old hag!]

Joshua chimed in: [Mom, I'm sorry for making you shoot these videos.]

[Son, you've married such a woman, it's an affront to you too!]

[If it wasn't for her being an only child and their city house worth millions, I would've divorced her and found a good daughter-in-law for you long ago!]

[Son!] [Mom!]

After hearing their conversation, only one thought lingered in my mind: find my mother-in-law's side account and make this mother and son's reputation ruin!
