After My Mate Cast Me Out Pregnant, I Became a Lycan Princess Chapter 1
The mate mark on my neck went ice-cold at 2:14 on a Tuesday afternoon, five months pregnant, as Julian spoke the formal rejection vow before five hundred wolves. The bond snapped like a severed cable, burning through my veins before turning into a dead, hollow chill. My inner wolf let out one ragged howl, shattering against my ribs, and went completely silent. I didn’t shed a tear, and I didn’t beg. I walked straight past the pack gates with my unborn baby and the tactical journals Julian had stolen all his credit from.
Six years later, the television on the kitchen counter brought that exact cold rushing back.
"Shadowvale’s border defense has never been tighter," Cleo Moreno said into a reporter's microphone. She wore diamond studs and a silk blazer, her smile sharp and glossy on the live Pack Alliance broadcast. "Alpha Julian and I redesigned our entire western flank to ensure total dominance."
I gripped the marble counter until my knuckles turned white. She was reading the exact defensive matrices I had spent three months drafting at Julian’s desk while he was out drinking with his Delta guards.
"Mommy?"
A small, warm hand pressed over my white knuckles. Hope looked up at me with wide, dark eyes, holding three silver forks in her other hand. At the foot of the stove, Buster, our oversized wolf-dog, let out a soft huff and thumped his heavy tail against the floor.
"I'm okay, baby," I whispered, forcing my fingers to relax.
Before the chill could crawl any deeper into my throat, a sudden wave of heat surged down my mate bond. Cedar and thunderstorm.
Miles away in the Ironveil Court, Aidan felt my spike of tension. The Lycan Prince’s power rolled through our link like a roaring hearth in a blizzard, burning away Julian’s phantom frost. I reached up and pressed my palm against the warm, raised mark on the right side of my neck—Aidan’s mark.
Deep behind my ribs, in the silent dark where my wolf had slept for six years, a faint ember gave a sudden twitch. Then it settled.
"Dinner needs twenty more minutes, Hope," I said, keeping my voice steady. "Go finish setting the napkins."

Late that night, after Hope was tucked in under her fleece blankets, Aidan stepped onto the dark terrace. He didn't ask what happened. Through the bond, he already knew the shape of the ghost that had brushed against me.
He sat down on the stone bench, pulled me between his thighs, and tilted my chin up. Slowly, without rushing, he dragged his nose along my jawline to the hollow of my throat, scenting me until the rich, heavy perfume of pine needles and ozone completely buried everything else.
*You never have to go back there,* his voice echoed softly in my mind, deep and resonant. *Not even in your head.*
I leaned my head against his broad chest, listening to the steady, heavy beat of his heart. I wanted to tell him everything. But the old fear sat like a cold stone in my stomach. Julian had claimed he loved me too, right until he threw me away. Part of me still held back, terrified of letting down the last wall, afraid that even a Lycan Prince might one day look at me and decide I was replaceable.

The next morning, a courier delivered a sealed parchment from the Alliance committee. Shadowvale’s Alpha and Luna were officially scheduled to attend the neutral-ground Pack Alliance Summit in two weeks. Cleo’s television appearance had just been the preview.
I read the roster twice. Then I folded the sheet and tucked it neatly into the top kitchen drawer, placing it right on top of my old leather-bound training logs. I didn't mention it to Aidan over breakfast. But my mind was already running through every corridor, every delegate, and every exit route of that summit hall.
A few hours later, I took Hope down to the neutral-ground farmers market on the edge of Ironveil territory. I wore an oversized grey sweater, faded jeans, and carried a canvas tote bag filled with fresh carrots and sourdough bread. Out here on the human-paved streets, nobody knew my face. I liked the quiet.
"Mommy, look at the big apples!" Hope pointed toward a fruit stall, tugging my hand.
I smiled, turning—and froze.
A familiar scent hit the air. Heavy pine, wet soil, and bitter musk.
Julian stepped around the corner of a flower cart, flanked by two armed Shadowvale guards. He hadn't changed. The broad shoulders, the arrogant tilt of his chin, the smug smile of a man who thought the entire world was laid out for his taking.
His eyes swept over the crowd and snagged on me.
His wolf gave a sudden, confused jolt that rippled across his posture. He took three long strides toward me, cutting off my path.
"Hadley?" Julian’s voice carried that familiar, booming Alpha authority. His gaze dropped over my scuffed sneakers, my messy bun, and the cheap canvas bag on my shoulder. A mocking smirk curled on his lips. "Well, look at this. The runaway Luna."
I didn't answer. I pulled Hope slightly behind my hip.
"An Omega servant for some backwater clan, are we?" Julian chuckled, stepping closer. He reached out and wrapped his thick fingers around my wrist, his grip tight and possessive. "You always were stubborn. You could have saved yourself six years of scrubbing floors."
"Let go," I said evenly.
Julian didn't let go. His chest puffed out as he leaned down, lowering his voice into something he clearly thought was seductive. "Cleo and I have our official Mating Ceremony in three days. But seeing you like this... it’s pathetic. Tell you what. I’ll rent you a nice townhouse in the city. Five grand a month allowance. You can keep my bed warm on the side. I’m feeling generous."
I looked down at his hand wrapped around my wrist.
Without breaking eye contact, I took his thumb and peeled it back. I lifted his second finger, then his third, breaking his grip with steady, effortless leverage. I pushed his hand away like brushing off a piece of dead lint.
"You always were small, Julian," I said softly.
Julian opened his mouth to bark an Alpha command—and stopped dead.
His pupils dilated until they swallowed his irises. His wolf suddenly slammed backward inside him, whimpering in sudden, biological panic. From the collar of my sweater, the scent of fresh-cut cedar and raw, lethal thunderstorm rolled over his senses.
Lycan blood. Dominant, ancient, and untouchable.
Julian stumbled back half a step, his face pale as paper.
I took Hope's small hand and turned toward the parking lot.
Behind me, Julian’s jaw locked so hard I could hear the teeth grind. "Search the perimeter!" he snapped frantically at his two guards, his voice cracking around the edges. "Find out who owns that scent! Now!"
