Chapter 1

A young woman showed up at my door, saying she wanted to become my wife to repay me for saving her life.

She drove my younger sister out of the house and wanted to transfer the family property to her parasitic parents in my name!

I immediately reported her. How could someone be so bold as to commit robbery right at my home in a society governed by law?

"Darling, you have to stand up for me!"

I stared at the woman holding my arm in confusion, noticing that her foundation had gotten on my sleeve.

Her eye makeup was smudged with tears, and she looked rather terrifying.

She pointed at the man in the private room, and she was clearly pissed. "Darling, he wanted to hurt me. I almost lost my innocence."

Meanwhile, that man was utterly shocked as he pointed at his face, which was smeared with red wine.

"What are you even saying? Nicholas Lowe, is this your wife?"

My wife?

I immediately pushed that woman away and flashed a polite smile. "Miss, you're mistaken. I'm not your husband."

I was only here to attend Zachary Smith's bachelor party, only to see a woman splashing red wine on his face as soon as I came in.

During the argument, I found out that the woman was Chelsea Wood. She was here to stand up for her friend, and she kept calling Zachary a jerk.

Even when she was facing a few men, Chelsea didn't relent at all. She wouldn't even stop cursing Zachary.

Just as she sensed that Zachary was about to lose it, she spotted me and thought I could be her savior.

She hid behind me, yelling that she would ask her husband to teach them a lesson.

I kept my distance from her, looking slightly displeased.

When Chelsea heard my words, she pushed me away in disbelief, tears welling up in her eyes.

"How could you refuse to acknowledge our relationship? Have you forgotten everything we went through together?" she questioned.

I got more confused as I listened to her, but everyone else calmly waited for my reply.

Chelsea hit me in the chest a few times, and I subconsciously shoved her away.

"You jerk! Are you going to act as if nothing happened then?" she questioned.

I frowned. My patience was wearing thin.

I shot Zachary a look, and he summoned the manager over to handle the situation.

To stand up for her friend, Chelsea damaged the private room's door and smashed the customized crystal cabinet.

A few bottles of expensive wine splattered over the floor.

The manager handed the bill to Chelsea, who was still drowning in sorrow.

She choked up as she pointed in my direction. "My husband will pay the bill."

I was puzzled by her action. I wondered if she really expected me to pay for her.

Without saying a word, I left the private room, and the rest of them went on with the argument.

Based on the message Zachary sent to me, Chelsea had barged into the private room and insulted him to stand up for her friend. But her friend knew nothing about that.

I teased Zachary that he only got himself into trouble because he had been messing around with women out there.

He got so worked up on the other end of the line.

Chelsea's friend had worked at Zachary's company for a few days and met him once.

Her friend couldn't stop thinking about Zachary. However, she had been fired because of her own mistakes.

Chelsea's friend had been crying all day at home, and Chelsea just assumed that it was Zachary's fault.

Hence, she went to Zachary to confront him.

I held my head helplessly. She was truly a "helpful" friend.

I couldn't fathom why she kept emphasizing that she knew me. She even made it sound as if there was something between us.

The unknown caller kept calling. It seemed like she wouldn't give up until I picked up the phone.

"Darling, I was so disappointed by your action at that time. You must apologize to me," she said.

I was baffled by how demanding she sounded.

Perhaps she had sensed that, so she changed her tone and said sweetly, "I'm Chelsea Wood. How could you forget about me?"

She kept talking to herself and complaining about how hard things had been for her.

I ended the call without hesitation. Those scammers were even targeting me now.
