Chapter 2

I really did not expect that such a careful and low-profile man would go on a reality show for his first love.

At that moment, Liam walked in and interrupted my thoughts.

He started to blame me.

“You’re too pampered.

“You won’t die from a mango allergy. Ivy has just returned to the country, so why are you upsetting her?”

As he talked to me, Liam’s gaze stayed fixed on his phone.

He was typing and smiling from time to time with sparkling eyes.

Some memories came to me at that moment.

On our first anniversary, Liam bought a mango cake.

I did not want to waste his effort, so I took a small bite.

In the end, I fell unconscious from an allergic reaction.

When I woke up, he was crying like a baby. His trembling arms were wrapped tight around me.

“Olivia, I won’t let you get close to anything that contains mango. I won’t let you suffer pain like that ever again!”

I came back to my senses. I opened my purse and looked for the medical report.

“I miscarried.”

It was then that he looked at me.

He sounded irritated.

“It’s only a glass of Whisky. Your jealousy knows no bounds. Why are you joking about our child’s life?”

It turned out that when I was in excruciating pain and deep despair last night, he thought that I was acting out of jealousy.

I looked down and passed him the miscarriage medical report.

“Our child is really gone.

“Our relationship should end here too.”

I did not even dare to say the words ‘break up’.

Five years ago, my parents’ company went bankrupt.

In order to pay the debt, I accepted Liam’s financial support and became his mistress.

I lived with him for five years and even got pregnant, but he did not want to marry me or make me his girlfriend.

Liam stared at the report in disbelief.

After a while, he looked at my flat tummy and pulled me into his embrace.

He sounded guilty.

“Don’t be sad. Once you recover, I’ll make you pregnant again.”

He looked lovingly at me as he gently patted my back.

It was as if we were as close as our past selves.

However, I could not ignore the smell of Ivy’s perfume that lingered on him.

I felt nauseated and pushed him away.

“Mr. White, I’m serious.”

Liam heard me address him formally, and his expression immediately fell.

“Nonsense! Do you still think you’re the same rich girl you were in the past? How could you live without me?”

He was right. I was no longer the rich girl who got doted on.

However, I remembered how he used to kiss my neck and stare at me with loving eyes.

He had made promises to me over and over again.

“Olivia, even if you’re no longer rich, you’re still the most precious princess in my heart.”

I clenched my fist as my lips trembled. I could not even utter a word.

Liam finally realized that he had crossed the line. He looked a bit flustered.

“Don’t take this the wrong way. Nothing’s going on between Ivy and me. I won’t abandon you.”

He immediately pulled out his phone.

“I was wrong for what I did at the banquet. I’ll immediately unblock you, and I’ll never block you again.”

He then took out a delicate gift box from his pants pocket.

It was a sparkling diamond ring.

I was stunned.

I would always glance at rings when we shopped or passed by jewelry stores.

He would always pull me away heartlessly and say scornfully, “Olivia, I already treat you very well. You should be grateful.”

He implied that I was just a plaything to him.

He would dote on me, but I would not be the one he married.

However, my body turned rigid when I looked at the ring.

He forcefully pulled my hand over and slid the ring onto my middle finger.

Liam suddenly smiled smugly.

“Look, Olivia. I said that you’ll never be able to leave me.”

Before I could speak, my phone started to ring.

It was a call from Ivy.

“Olivia, Liam doesn’t have good taste at all!

“He ordered a diamond ring worth ten million dollars, but the huge diamond on top looks so tacky…

“I think the free gift worth a thousand dollars that you have looks better!”

It turned out that the ring I had was a free gift.

Ivy’s intentions were very obvious.

I did not utter a word in response. I simply ended the call.

I woke up in a blindingly white hotel penthouse with a throbbing headache and the taste of betrayal in my mouth. The last thing I remembered was my stepsister, Cathie, handing me a flute of champagne at the charity gala with a smile that didn't reach her eyes. Now, a tall, dangerously handsome man walked out of the bathroom with a towel around his hips. On the nightstand sat a stack of hundred-dollar bills. My stepmother had finally done it-she drugged me and staged a scandal with a hired escort to destroy my reputation and my future. "Aisha! Is it true you spent the night with a gigolo?" The shouts of a dozen reporters echoed through the heavy oak door as camera flashes exploded through the peephole. My phone lit up with messages showing my bank accounts were already frozen. My father was invoking the 'morality clause' in my mother's trust fund, and my fiancé had already released a statement dumping me to marry my stepsister instead. I was trapped, penniless, and being hunted by the press for a scandal I hadn't even participated in. My own family had sold me out for a payday, and the man standing in front of me was the only witness who could prove I was innocent-or finish me off for good. I didn't have time to cry. According to the fine print of the trust, I had thirty days to prove my "rehabilitation" through a legal marriage or I would lose everything. I tracked the man down to a coffee shop the next morning, watching him take a thick envelope of cash from a wealthy older woman. I sat across from him and slid a napkin with a $50,000 figure written on it. "I need a husband. Legal, paper-signed, and convincing." He looked at the number, then at me, a slow, crooked smile spreading across his face. I thought I was hiring a desperate gigolo to save my inheritance. I had no idea I was actually proposing to Dominic Fields, the reclusive billionaire shark who was currently planning a hostile takeover of my father's entire empire.
