Chapter 2

ALINA

Next day

"Come to Daddy's room. He is calling you." I heard Beck say from the other side of the door to my room. She did not like to come in. She always told me that my room smelt cheap and she was afraid that if she stayed there for too long, she was going to start morphing into a lowly omega like me.

"Okay." I managed to reply to her. I looked down at all of the scars I had incurred from yesterday when Beck and her friends had beaten me. Alex was angry, and he said that I was rude to accept his rejection so fast so he made Beck and the others beat me. They managed to not hit my face because Alex was afraid that the lycan king would ship me back after he saw my ugly face marred with scars.

My injuries did not take too long to vanish. I wondered if it was because I was too used to having them which was why they took very little time to heal. I did not have a wolf so my healing powers were not supposed to be strong. It was strange... but I did not tell anyone about it because I was scared I was going to be in trouble.

I headed down to my father's chambers and I found him pacing around the room with his head down. He looked disturbed. I wondered if he had finally come to his senses and remembered that I was his daughter. It did not make sense that a father would sell his daughter out to be in a harem. I noticed that my stepmother and Beck were seated on one of the seats in his chambers. Beck's head hung low while her mother caressed her back gently.

What lies did they cook up for my father now? I swallowed the bitterness in my throat as I greeted my father, "Good morning, father."

"There is nothing good about this morning," cried my stepmother. "You should be ashamed of what you did. Do you even have any sense of pity left in you, Alina?"

"What?" I was confused because I did not do anything wrong. After I was beaten yesterday and was denied my food for the night, I spent my night in my room until this morning when I was woken up to sweep the house.

"If I had not caught her then she would have been long gone by now. And your word to the alpha would have meant nothing." Beck sniffed, shaking her head.

"What do you mean?" I asked again.

"Oh do not act like you do not know what she is talking about. You know how I feel about liars." My father spat, angry veins appearing on his forehead. He looked enraged now that his face was in sight.

"Father, I promise you that I did not do anything. You have to believe me. I don't even know what they are talking about." I tried to reason with him but before I could find other words to prove my innocence, my step mother stood up and headed towards me. She smacked me until I fell to the ground. The pain stung me, but it was nothing I had never felt before.

I raised my eyes to look at my father, waiting for him to try and defend me or to yell at my step mother for hitting me, but he did none of that. In fact, he looked like he wanted to hit me too, "Beck told me that she told you about my plans with the alpha. You know I would never have sold you out. It is not my fault that the alpha wanted to offer you to the lycan king. Do you know the loss this pack would have suffered if we do not fulfil our promise to the lycan king?"

"I did not try to do anything to stop your plans, father." I continued to defend myself even though I knew that it was fruitless. He had already fallen for their lies. It has always been like that. He had long decided that their words meant more than mine.

"Stop lying," he boomed, and I shivered in fear. I have never seen him sound this way before. "Beck caught you trying to run away. If she had not seen you and thwarted you in time, then the pack would have suffered a great loss and the lycan king would have unleashed his rage on all of us."

What? When did that even happen? I knew the extent that Beck was going to go to make sure that I left, but lying about me running away was certainly not one of them. Why did she want to add to my suffering?

"You should be ashamed of yourself," my step mother spat. "You even had the guts to lay your hands on my precious daughter. How dare you?"

"She hurt me and bashed my head into the bush but thankfully I caught her by her leg and the guards helped me to bring her back into the house." She sniffed.

The lying bitch. I was suddenly filled with so much rage. She took my life, my boyfriend, and now she wants to move me away from my own family so she can take my father. Hadn't she done enough? I wished I had time to prove to my father what type of a person he married and the devil that she had spawned, but unfortunately, my father is never going to back me.

He had lost trust in me. There was no way I was ever going to stay back, so I might at least try because I did not want him to remember me as a liar. He hated liars so much. The thought of my father hating me made me feel so much pain.

"I swear to you that I was in my room. Yesterday night, Beck and her friends had brought me to their room and they made me do unspeakable things to them on a stage. They make me do that every night, if not she won't allow me to eat dinner. They had then hit me. All of them took rounds in hitting me. After that, I was too exhausted so I went back to my room to sleep. I promise you I did not try to run away. I wouldn't have even been able to because I was feeling too weak." I rambled on.

"So many fucking lies. How do you spawn this many lies in such a short time? You are a stark replica of your mother, both your stupid unattractive hair and the lies." She twisted her mouth as her eyes darted to my hair. I had long black hair like my mother with streaks of silver hair in between.

"Rita!" My father warned her. He was still obviously in love with my mother even though she had died, which was why they hated me so much. He always used to say that I reminded him of her, but not anymore.

"I am sorry, Your Greatness." She bowed and then tossed me a glare, like I was the one that made her upset my father like that.

"If what you are truly saying is correct, then you will have to back it up with proof. Beck had backed her own story with proof because two of the guards that were with her yesterday told me that they had seen you trying to run away." He said. I was sure that she had bribed them or promised them something because that never happened.

"Yes, I could show you the scars I have from yesterday." I stood up to my feet. My eyes raked over them and I could see the nervous looks on their faces when they saw that they were about to be busted.

I opened my shirt to show him the punches on my stomach but when I did, they were all gone. With a frown, I checked my hands to see where they had hit me with a wire continuously until purple scars had formed, but there was nothing there. It was almost as if they had vanished into thin air. Oh no. I looked up at my father and his expression he wore was filled with disgust.

"I did not know that I gave birth to a liar." He sounded disappointed.

"No, maybe they healed early." It was not helping matters because I sounded stupid.

"That is not possible even for an alpha to be healed that fast. Also, you do not even have a wolf. How would you be able to have those powers if you are not even a complete werewolf?" Beck chirped in.

"Seize her. Take her to the dungeon until the lycan king sends his people to take her to the pack tomorrow." His eyes were not even on me as he spoke. He looked like he was done with me. I was not going to be his daughter anymore. His little princess. Beck was going to be.

"I have to say goodbye to my mother's grave, and I need to pack some clothes. Please, father." I begged but my step mother and Beck had seized me like he had asked them to and bound my hands to the back.

"You have lost your chance of doing that after lying to me." It was the last time I heard him speak before they forced me out of the room. I screamed, cried, and clawed at them to allow me to at least say goodbye to my mother's grave. Her pendant was still with me, thank goodness. I was still yelling and begging at them as they threw me into the dungeon and closed the doors on me like I was some lowly criminal.

I spent three weeks scrubbing carbonized grease off woks at the Jade Garden, hiding my elite tactical training behind raw knuckles and a practiced, submissive stutter. My mission was the only thing keeping me sane: finding my sister, Elena, who vanished into thin air after her phone last pinged near the city’s Restricted Sector. The breakthrough came when my boss, a bully named Uncle Wong, forced me to take a delivery to 101 Blackwood Drive—a high-security fortress where the drivers whispered that people went in and never came back right. It was a geographic match for Elena's last known location, but as I rode my battered scooter toward the massive steel gates, I realized I wasn't just investigating a lead; I was walking into a spider's web. The mansion was a monolith of cold concrete and military-grade surveillance, owned by Hugh Bradford, a billionaire who controlled the city’s elite like puppets. During my delivery, the magnetic locks hissed shut, the lights died, and I was plunged into absolute darkness with a predator who didn't want my money. Bradford pinned me against a stainless steel counter and did something unthinkable: he sank his teeth into my shoulder, using the rhythm of my frantic pulse to anchor his own fractured mind. I escaped with a bruised neck and a thousand-dollar "tip," feeling the crushing weight of his violation and the terrifying realization that my "clumsy immigrant" act hadn't fooled him for a second. I didn't understand why a man of his power would treat a delivery girl like a biological drug, or what he had done to the other girls who had vanished behind those black glass walls. My heart hammered against my ribs as I realized I was being hunted by a man who could buy and sell my life a thousand times over. "You're terrified," he had whispered in the dark, and for the first time in years, I wasn't faking it. Back in my apartment, I found a note tucked inside the cash that confirmed my worst fears: "For the inconvenience. See you Tuesday." He thinks he’s found a new toy to play with, but he just gave me the one thing I needed to find my sister—an invitation to go back inside and finish what I started.
