Chapter 3

MAGDALENE’S POV

ā€œFuck itā€ April cursed, as his hands pressed my breasts softly, and occasionally played with my nipples.

I couldn’t help it, I didn’t stop him, I moaned softly with each press and he loved it so much.

April had snapped from the drunk and emotional mess to a seductive charmer.

He bent his head and sucked my nipples ravishingly, making me wetter than I’d ever been.

ā€œAprilā€¦ā€ I gasped as he moved over to the second breast to give the same treatment.

He moved from my breasts, back to my neck, nuzzling a particular spot then stopped. ā€œI’m itching to mark you right nowā€¦ā€

Still gasping, I found myself surrendering. ā€œThen do itā€¦ā€

ā€œā€¦You don’t belong to me aloneā€ he whispered. ā€œA Gamma must never mark a mate that doesn’t belong to him aloneā€

But he pressed his lips onto mine and kissed me delightfully while his hand toyed with my nipple again.

ā€œBut I want to suck every corner of your body right nowā€ he declared after the kiss and I submitted to him.

April’s mouth traveled down my body slowly, torturously. He kissed every inch of my stomach, my hips, the inside of my thighs. When he reached between my legs, I gasped his name.

He looked up at me with those dark eyes, his wolf barely contained. ā€œBeg meā€

ā€œPlease….ā€ I whimpered.

And then his mouth was on me, and I couldn’t think anymore.

My thigh, then the sensitive spot between my legs…he suddenly stopped.

ā€œI want more, Marg ā€œ he whispered against my hair. ā€œBut not hereā€¦ā€

ā€œā€¦butā€¦ā€ I stopped.

He rose and pulled me out and help me adjust my dress, even though that, I wanted more! I just couldn’t say it and I didn’t ask before we left the parking lot.

I woke up to meet myself in the middle of the bed in my room, all alone.

Birds chirped outside while sunlight seeped in through the opened window.

I got up, and picked the phone to check time. ā€œ12PM!. 21 Missed calls from mum and 10 from Alpha Moses!!ā€

My heart seized with panic, I ran my hand through my hair, as I instantly dial mum, but she wasn’t picking up.

ā€œPick up!!!ā€ I cried. Missing mum’s calls, Alpha Moses’s calls, something must have happened…

Both of them were unreachable, making me panic more.

My mind flashed to what happened yesterday between July, April and I. Could it be that mum has found out or…

No. I rushed toward the door. Either July or April would know something.

As I walked through the hallway towards July’s room, my mind was calculating … what would I tell mum if it’s true that she’s found out.

I stopped before July’s door since it’s the first room after mine.

I heaved prayerfully before knocking on the door steadily.

First knock, No answer and I wondered… was he masturbating again?

I shook my head immediately at that crazy thought and knocked again.

ā€œHello?ā€ I heard beside me.

I stopped to see it was June, half naked, sweat covered his body, and his dressing showed he was coming from the gym.

ā€œOh. Hiā€

His brows furrowed. ā€œJuly and April left earlier today for some urgent business. Any problem?ā€

ā€œDamn!!ā€ I cursed aloud, making his frown deeper.

ā€œIs there a problem?ā€ June asked again.

I managed a smile. ā€œNo. No problems, I just wanted to askā€¦ā€ I paused. Was June the right person to even ask if Mum or the Alpha called?

Despite my fear of my stepbrother, June and I rarely talked to each other or even meet. It was even rare to seen him talk to his brothers.

ā€œIts’s nothing Juneā€ I quickly confessed. ā€œI just wanted to ask if he hasā€¦ā€ My voice was stuck again. Why did I…

ā€œIf he had what?ā€ June pressed.

ā€œIf… if he had…had a razorā€ I said what came to my mouth in a rush.

June scrutinized me critically. His gaze sent me these kind of chills, that made me wonder what he would look like smiling.

ā€œA razor?ā€ He frowned. ā€œOut of the blue why did you need a razor?ā€

Urghh!!! I wished he knew the kind of tight spot I’m in right now.

But still I couldn’t tell him, so I deepened the lie — just anything to get him off me. ā€œA razor to shave my armpit and…and yunnoā€

He raised the corner of his lips slightly, almost a smile but he kept it.

ā€œAlright fine. Come, I’ll get you oneā€

My heart tensed up. Follow him to his room too? What if…

He’d turned and took a step already but suddenly stopped and looked back abruptly. ā€œWhy are you smelling like that?ā€

Smelling? I raised my arm to catch which smell but I caught nothing. I looked up. ā€œSmell like what?ā€

ā€œYou smell like July and Aprilā€ he answered, his face now twisted up.

The tension automatically died down as he said this. ā€œOh. I was sent to pick April from the club and July… Julyā€¦ā€

ā€œLet’s goā€ he cut me off. ā€œYou don’t have to explain to meā€

His attitude was very strange as well as annoying.

I went after him as his room was after my own. In the process, I kept dialing Mum but she was still unreachable and I kept my phone as soon as we got to his door.

He must really have trust issues given the way he pulled the key from his shorts pocket and unlocked the door.

As soon as I got into his room which was filled with gym equipments and sport aesthetics, he pointed to the bathroom. ā€œI have a new razor in the toothbrush basketā€

ā€œH…Hunā€¦ā€ I scurried past him to the bathroom.

His bathroom wasn’t as big as mine but still took me a while to find the toothbrush basket and get the razor.

Just as I turned to exit, June was standing at door staring at me, denying my exit.

I was taken aback… ā€œWhat…What happened?ā€

ā€œWhy are you smelling like July and April? He snapped almost in a stoic tone.

I blinked. Why was he asking the question again. ā€œBut I answered at the hallway thatā€¦ā€

He stepped away from the door and walked towards me. ā€œWe both know that’s a lie, dear sisterā€

I bit my lip. He’d caught me. But how could I tell him about the mate bond?

He reached out and grabbed the razor. ā€œYou don’t even need this so why taking it?ā€

Just as his skin made this little contact with mine, the casual mate bond sparked into ignition again…

ā€œThis is insaneā€ I whispered. ā€œNot anymoreā€

June also froze, his entire body going rigid. For a long moment, he just stared at the golden thread connecting us.

ā€˜Fuck’ he growled. It was the first time I’d ever see him curse.

ā€œJune, Iā€¦ā€

ā€œDon’t!ā€ He held up a hand. ā€œJust…give me a second to process thisā€

He turned away, running both hands through his hair. I could see the tension in his shoulders, the way his wolf was pushing at the surface.

Finally, he turned back. ā€œJuly and April are also your mates, right?ā€

I nervously nodded.

ā€œThis is not possibleā€ He agreed. ā€œBut first we must find out whyā€¦ā€

The vibration from my phone interrupted it. I checked and it was mum.

Adrenaline rushed to my body. ā€œExcuse meā€ I plead and slipped out of the bathroom to the room.

The beat of my chest felt as if a drum was placed there as I hurriedly asked. ā€œMumā€¦ā€

ā€œWhat happened to you? You aren’t picking my calls!ā€ she screamed.

ā€œI… I was sleepingā€

I could hear Alpha Moses’s voice in the background. I still don’t know the reason for the calls but waited until she replied. But she was engrossed in the conversation I didn’t understand.

ā€œMu…Mum?ā€

ā€œOh yes….ā€ She paused again. ā€œMarg let’s talk later. Our flight is ready, we’re coming back homeā€ Then she ended the call.

My heart slammed. Coming back home?

The key slid into the lock with a familiar click. Three weeks on the road had left my muscles aching and my mind numb, but the thought of seeing Cruz again made my heart race. I'd driven through three states in that time, hauling freight across endless highways, surviving on gas station coffee and truck stop showers. "I'm home," I called out, my voice echoing through our apartment. The silence that greeted me felt strange after weeks of engine roar and highway noise. I dropped my duffel bag by the door, my eyes widening as I took in the sight before me. Our small living room was transformed. A cream-colored Louis Vuitton bag sat prominently on the coffee table, its gold hardware gleaming under the overhead light. Beside it stood a tower of unopened champagne bottles, their foil tops catching the light like miniature suns. "What the hell?" I whispered, moving closer.

The silence of my phone felt wrong. Two weeks before our "wedding of the century," and something was off. I stared at the screen, scrolling through messages that should have been there but weren't. James, Lorenzo's business partner, had promised to send me the final charity gala details yesterday. The bathroom door was closed, steam seeping out from beneath it. Chase was in the shower, his phone charging on the nightstand. My heart pounded as I reached for it. "Don't," I whispered to myself. "This is invasion of privacy." But wasn't it stranger that I couldn't reach anyone?

The smell hit me first. Candles. Lilies. Something underneath it all — sweet and wrong, the way a room smells when it's trying too hard to hide something dead. St. Augustine's was packed. Every pew filled, every face turned toward the front of the nave where Julien Herrera lay in a mahogany casket lined with white satin. The priest was still speaking. I couldn't hear the words. All I could hear was my own breathing and the low, steady pressure of Clyde's hand on my back, steering me down the center aisle like I was luggage.
