No Bride for My Alpha Mate Novel Cover

No Bride for My Alpha Mate

Scrolling mindlessly through the pack's social media platform, I was on the brink of shutting it off when a single post caught my attention. My blood ran cold as my thumb hovered over the screen. The picture was harmless enough—a baby onesie laid out on a bed, surrounded by neatly folded blankets. But it was the caption that hit me like a silver bullet to the chest. "Thank you to my one and only for this incredible gift. I can’t wait to meet our pup." The post was signed with hearts, and Araceli’s name was tagged right underneath. For a moment, I couldn’t breathe. I read the words again and again, praying I was mistaken. The Delta, the smug, attention-seeking she wolf who had always hovered too close to my mate, was thanking him for the unborn child growing inside her. My mate—Luciano, the Alpha of this pack—was the only one it could possibly be. The air seemed to grow heavier as realization settled in. This wasn’t just a mistake. This wasn’t paranoia. This was betrayal, glaring at me from the screen. I pushed myself to my feet, the phone slipping from my trembling hand and hitting the floor with a dull thud. My heart pounded in my chest, each beat echoing the same thought over and over: He wouldn’t. He couldn’t. But he could. And he did.

Chapter 4

“If these behaviors continue, I’ll have to reconsider whether this ceremony is worth going through with.” My Alpha mate finally broke the silence, finishing his sentence.

A ripple of murmurs spread through the room, and my heart sank. I wanted to scream, to tell everyone the truth, but I forced myself to remain silent.

As Luciano moved on to the next topic, Araceli suddenly stepped forward, clutching her stomach.

“Alpha,” she said, her voice trembling, “I’d like to say something.”

Luciano gestured for her to continue.

“I know this isn’t the time, but I can’t stay silent anymore. I’ve tried to keep this to myself, but I think it’s important for the pack to know what I’ve been enduring.”

The pack shifted uneasily, their attention now fully on her.

“It’s Luna Isadora,” she said, her voice breaking as tears welled in her eyes. “She’s been... hostile toward me, accusing me of things I haven’t done. And today, she...”

She turned to me, her eyes glistening with crocodile tears. “She pushed me.”

Gasps echoed through the hall, and I froze.

“That’s a lie!” I said, my voice rising above the crowd.

Araceli shook her head, tears streaming down her face. “I just wanted to be close to her, to offer her my support. But when I tried to hug her earlier, she shoved me so hard I nearly fell.”

“That never happened!” I shouted, stepping forward. “She’s lying!”

Luciano’s gaze snapped to me, his eyes cold. “Isadora.”

“She’s manipulating you!” I said, desperation creeping into my voice. “She’s been playing everyone, and now she’s trying to paint me as the villain?”

Araceli sniffled, clutching her stomach dramatically. “I only care about the safety of my pup. I don’t want any trouble, Alpha. I just... I just don’t feel safe anymore.”

Luciano turned to me, his expression unreadable. “Do you have anything to say for yourself?”

I should have kept a closer eye on Matheo. That's the thought that hits me first — not the sleek black SUV, not the long white scratch running down its passenger door, not the small crowd of people in Silverpine's town square already turning to look. Just that one thought, flat and familiar: I should have been watching. But I'd been distracted. The market vendor had shortchanged me again, and I was standing there recounting my bills with one hand while holding a canvas bag of groceries in the other, and Matheo had drifted three steps to my left the way he always does when something catches his eye. He's like that — drawn to shiny things, moving things, anything that glitters in afternoon light. The SUV's chrome trim must have caught the sun just right. He didn't mean to scratch it. He was reaching for his own reflection. "Mattie." I say his name quietly, setting down the groceries.

My wolf howled in triumph. *Finally, our mate.* I smoothed down the silver silk of my gown and made my way toward him, heart pounding against my ribs. The morning sun filtered through the heavy velvet curtains of the Alpha’s suite, but it brought no warmth to my shivering body. I woke with the familiar, acrid taste of bile in my throat, a sensation that had become my constant companion over the last six months. My limbs felt like lead, my head swimming in a fog that refused to lift. "Awake already, my love?" Jameson’s voice was smooth, a deep baritone that used to make my inner wolf purr. Now, my wolf was silent, curled into a dormant ball deep within my subconscious, too weak to even acknowledge her mate. Jameson stood by the bedside table, his tall frame blocking the light. He looked every inch the Alpha of the Dark River Pack—imposing, handsome, and utterly composed. He held out a glass filled with a murky, greenish liquid. The scent was overpowering, masking something metallic and sharp underneath the smell of kale and apples. "Drink," he said gently, though the command in his eyes left no room for argument.
