Never to Be a Father
Chapter 2
After that, Cameron left, leaving me alone with the cold, impersonal machines.
A nurse suddenly rushed up to me and exclaimed, "You really are something. You just underwent an induced abortion, and you're already moving around so violently. If I hadn't noticed in time, you would have died!"
Was that so? But what did it matter if I died? Who else in this world would care about me?
"Where's your husband? Why hasn't he come to care for you? You're in such a weak state now, and you need someone to take care of you," the nurse said.
I coldly replied, "He's dead."
I would have rather he were already dead. If he were dead and buried, he wouldn't make me feel disgusted.
Just then, Cameron suddenly returned and yelled at me, "Justine, I'm still your husband! How could you curse me to death? I shouldn't have come back and cared about you out of kindness!"
When the nurse witnessed this, she was even more confused. Wasn't the husband supposed to be dead? How was he alive again?
"I know you're feeling angry today, but don't you know what you can and can't say? I know you cared about the unborn baby, but before it's born, it isn't considered a living person!
"Are you really willing to hurt a living person for a lump of flesh with no thoughts?
"And besides, didn't I already promise you that we can try for another child once you've recovered?"
Cameron spewed a truckload of nonsense nonstop, with each sentence being just an excuse for himself.
"Don't even think about going to look for Julie—it was all my own decision! If you dare to cause trouble for her, I will never let you off!" he barked.
I lay silently on the hospital bed, watching as my husband continued to hurt me for another woman. He fixed his gaze on me, seemingly afraid that I would go after Julie when he wasn't paying attention.
Was I really such a terrifying woman in his eyes? I was just a mother who had just lost her child!
After we got home, my mother-in-law, Betty Hill, looked at my flat stomach and immediately became furious.
"Justine Miller, what happened to your belly? Why is it flat? My precious grandson!" she wailed.
I instinctively touched my abdomen, which was now flat. "Gone. Your son personally had him aborted!"
My tone was indescribably indifferent as I spoke, and Betty thought I was lying instead.
"How can that be? I knew exactly how much Cameron was looking forward to meeting his son!
"You aborted the baby because you were afraid of the pain, did you? A woman like you deserves to rot in hell! Oh, my precious grandson!" Betty cried.
Not long after Cameron and I got married, my mother-in-law kept urging me to conceive a child and give her a grandson. But no matter how hard Cameron and I tried to conceive, there were never any results.
Betty became anxious, and she looked everywhere to find secret remedies to help with conception.
I drank countless amounts of strange-tasting concoctions and got an endless number of ovulation injections.
It was only after that that I finally had this child. My parents would shed tears every time they saw the things I did to get pregnant.
When I first got pregnant, they weren't concerned about the baby in my belly. Instead, they were relieved that I no longer had to drink those strange herbal concoctions for the sake of getting pregnant.
And now, Cameron himself had murdered his child.
No one in the whole family knew about it—not even I, the person involved, found out until afterward.
"Cameron! I was against you marrying her back then! Not having a child after all these years of marriage was one thing, but now, after finally getting pregnant, she got an abortion! It isn't even certain if she can still have children in the future!
"I don't want a daughter-in-law like this. Divorce her! You must divorce her!" Betty shrieked.
