Chapter 3

Lily held Jared sympathetically and roared, “You want to divorce me over such a small matter? You’re being unreasonable!”

Jared glared at me viciously as he pretended to be understanding.

“Dr. Smith, Hunter’s angry because I dismembered the body. That’s probably why he wanted to divorce you. I’m willing to beg for Hunter’s forgiveness if he’s willing to treat you well and rein in his anger.”

At the same time, I heard dogs barking from the back alley behind the hospital.

Lily’s eyes brightened as she stared at me hatefully.

“What did you do wrong? Nothing! I’m going to divorce him. He shouldn’t even think about humiliating you this way! I’m also going to feed the leftover portions of that corpse to the dogs! I’m going to make full use of that dead body!”

After she said that, she quickly bagged the limbs and brought them out.

Jared purposely stopped me from chasing after Lily.

When I finally pushed Jared aside and reached the back alley, the stray dogs had already started to eat the limbs that Lily had dumped on the ground. It was a gory scene.

I grabbed Lily’s arm and said through clenched teeth, “Lily! You’d better reconfirm whose mother this is—mine or yours. Check the medical records!”

Lily freed her arm from my grip and smirked.

“My mother’s travelling overseas right now. How could she have died from a heart attack in this hospital? Besides, if my mother had heart issues, I wouldn’t be this powerless. I wouldn’t have let the available heart be taken away!”

The stray dogs were biting and pulling on an arm. In the commotion, a bracelet with a gold charm was flung out of the corpse’s palm.

Lily had bought this bracelet for Maryam when she received her first salary.

Even though Lily was able to buy more expensive jewelry for Maryam after that, Maryam still cherished that bracelet the most.

As she had been seriously ill, the bracelet had become a symbol of hope for her. She always held onto it.

Jared bent down and picked it up. Then, he snorted.

“Hunter, didn’t you say that your family is very rich? Why is your mother only wearing this measly gold charm? Has your family become bankrupt from doing too many bad deeds?”

Lily did a double-take at the bracelet, but after she heard what Jared said, she also spoke up in disgust.

She said, “I don’t know why your mother dared to humiliate me over and over again when she’s dressed this shabbily. Unlike my mother, she treated you like her own son despite having so many gold bangles that I bought her!”

I looked at Lily with a complicated gaze.

Aside from the fact that my mother had never once humiliated her, she had forgotten about her first gift to her own mother.

However, it was not surprising. Maryam had told me before that since Lily became rich, she forbade Maryam from wearing simple clothing.

She felt that Maryam would embarrass her.

Hence, Maryam hid the gold charm bracelet away.

I was overwhelmed by mixed emotions as I glanced at Lily meaningfully.

“Lily, do you really not remember this bracelet? This is the first gift you bought for Maryam.”

Jared interrupted me.

“The bracelet wasn’t there when I dismembered the body. Did you stuff this in so you could find an excuse to take the body away? It’s too late now. If you want to take the body parts back, you’d have to retrieve them from the dogs’ stomachs.”

Lily believed Jared. She tossed the bracelet into the trash can angrily.

“Hunter, you’re shameless! How dare you lie to me by using my mother?”

Then, she kicked the remaining body parts left from the dogs’ meal into the drain.

She looked at me smugly. “You forced me to do this!”

At the same time, the hospital director and the police arrived after hearing the commotion.

“According to our investigation, you illegally sold Maryam Smith’s organs. Please come with us.”

Lily’s expression froze as she thought she heard the wrong name.

“We didn’t sell any human organs, let alone my own mother’s! Are you kidding me?”

The hospital director, Dr. Reid, tossed some documents in her direction. It was the death certificate and the evidence that Lily had transferred the available heart.

“I didn’t realize that you’ve done so many stupid things! I didn’t expect that you’d even commit such a vicious crime against your own mother!”
