Chapter 5

Juliet spoke first, saying, "Matthew and I are already divorced. Today is Wilson's wedding. There's no need to bring up the past."

The moment she distanced herself from me, the groomsmen let out a chorus of knowing sighs.

"Of course. Wilson's young, handsome, and talented. How could Matthew ever compare?"

"Juliet, we're handing Wilson's whole future over to you. You'd better treat him right."

Juliet smiled sweetly, just like she once smiled at me. She said, "Don't worry. I won't fail him, and he won't fail me."

My gaze dimmed. Beside me, Ethan ground his teeth. "What kind of twisted logic is this? The homewrecker gets the moral high ground now?"

Then, someone shouted from the crowd, "Since it's such a perfect day, how about Wilson and Juliet give us a kiss?"

The groomsmen joined in.

"Kiss! Kiss!"

Wilson stared at her with perfect, made-for-camera devotion.

Under the cheering, Juliet lifted a hand to his jaw, rose onto her toes, and brushed a soft kiss against the corner of his mouth.

The crowd erupted.

The scene was deafening, but inside, all I heard was silence.

I couldn't hold on to her heart, and now I couldn't even hold on to her anymore.

I let out a soft laugh. Thankfully, enough memories had already slipped away that it didn't hurt as sharply anymore.

Just then, my phone buzzed. It was the boarding reminder for my flight.

"Ethan, I'm heading out."

He pulled me into a hug, eyes reddening. "Go. Leave this trash behind and go be brilliant. I'll be here waiting for you to rise higher than ever. And as for the wedding, I'll deliver your gift for you!"

"I'm off." I patted his shoulder with a smile. I didn't bother to ask what kind of "gift" he planned to give.

In 30 minutes, any memory of loving Juliet would be gone.

I rolled my suitcase toward the exit. Out on the floor, Juliet and Wilson were holding hands, and when she happened to glance my way, she stiffened as if startled.

But after a moment, she shook it off.

Even if I attended the wedding, I would be there as her "brother", and I wouldn't show up dragging a suitcase. She thought she had imagined it.

The venue lights dimmed. Standing at the center of the stage, Juliet and Wilson exchanged rings and gazed at each other with syrupy affection.

The crowd demanded another kiss.

Then suddenly, a giant banner unfurled from above.

Ethan stood beneath it. He was grinning with a megaphone in hand. "Congratulations to homewrecker Wilson and scumbag Juliet! May you two grow old together without hurting other people!"

Wilson's face drained of all color. He looked helplessly at Juliet.

Juliet's expression snapped when she recognized Ethan. "What nonsense are you spouting? I have already divorced Matthew. Wilson is not a homewrecker!"

Ethan let out a sharp laugh. "You want to play innocent? You want both men at once. You tell Matthew to wait for you to remarry him, then run off to hold someone else's hand at the altar. Do you know how much he suffered in these three days?"

Her eyes went cold. "You don't need to worry. I gave him the pill. He won't remember any of it."

"You idiot, that pill doesn't erase memories right away. It wipes out the person you love on the third day. Matthew saw everything you did this entire time."

Ethan lifted his chin, sneering. "You don't even know who developed that drug, do you? It was Matthew, your ex-husband."

He then stepped closer, voice cold and merciless as he added, "And one more thing. There is no antidote. Matthew has already forgotten you completely. He'll never remarry you. You can enjoy your perfect little life with your side guy."
