Chapter 1

I found it on a Tuesday.

Tuesday mornings were always the same. I'd wake at dawn, run the perimeter with the patrol team, then head to the Ironveil Pack house to audit communication logs. It was routine work for a Lead Tracker. Boring, even. But my wolf had always been good at spotting things that didn't belong.

That morning, I was scanning the frequency logs when something pinged wrong. A single anomalous channel. Hidden. Encrypted.

My fingers paused over the keyboard. The channel was tagged to Nathaniel's personal device.

I should have walked away. Should have asked him about it over dinner. But my wolf stirred beneath my ribs, a low warning growl that made my skin prickle. She didn't trust it. And I'd learned a long time ago to trust her instincts.

Nathaniel had left an hour earlier for a training session with the Gamma team. He wouldn't be back until late afternoon. I had time.

I pulled his device from the charging dock in our shared quarters and sat down at my desk. My hands were steady as I bypassed the encryption. It took twenty minutes. When the channel finally opened, I expected maybe some private strategy notes. Pack business he didn't want on the main network.

What I found was so much worse.

The first message loaded on the screen. It was from someone named *N.M.* The timestamp was from three years ago.

*"Miss you already, handsome. That pendant is gorgeous. You spoil me too much."*

My stomach dropped.

I scrolled up. More messages. Hundreds of them. Years of them. Intimate. Explicit. Mocking.

*"She really doesn't suspect anything? God, you're good at this."*

*"I can't believe she sold her entire inheritance for you. What kind of pathetic she-wolf does that?"*

*"You should see the look on her face when she talks about you. It's like watching a loyal little dog who doesn't know she's already been put down."*

My vision blurred. The mate bond flared in my chest, a searing, white-hot brand that made it hard to breathe. My wolf howled inside me. Not in grief. In rage.

I kept scrolling.

Screenshots of my Silverpine territory deeds. Annotated with transfer instructions. Account numbers I didn't recognize. Offshore. Rogue-controlled.

Receipts. A moonstone pendant. Twenty thousand dollars. An Alpha-grade leather war harness. Thirty-five thousand. Both paid with funds traced back to the Silverpine sale.

My birthright. My parents' legacy. The only thing I had left of them.

He'd used it to buy gifts for his mistress.

There were photos too. Nola. That was her name. Nola Mendoza from the Emberlynn Pack. She was beautiful in that sharp, predatory way. Dark hair. Full lips. A body that screamed confidence. In one photo, she wore the moonstone pendant around her neck, smirking at the camera. In another, Nathaniel had his arms around her waist, his face buried in her hair.

I recognized the location. A neutral-territory hotel. The same weekend he'd told me he was attending an Alpha candidate summit.

The bond pulsed again, agony radiating through my ribs. My wolf snarled, clawing at the inside of my skull. She wanted blood. She wanted to shift, to hunt, to tear them both apart.

But I didn't move.

I sat there, staring at the screen, my breath coming in slow, controlled pulls. My hands didn't shake. My vision cleared.

Because beneath the rage, beneath the soul-deep betrayal, something else was rising.

Clarity.

I'd spent ten years believing the mate bond was sacred. That the Moon Goddess had chosen us for a reason. I'd sacrificed everything. My inheritance. My ambition. My identity. I'd poured myself into lifting him up, into making him the wolf he wanted to be.

And he'd repaid me by mocking my devotion in encrypted messages to a woman who called me a dog.

I scrolled to the most recent exchange. It was from last night.

*Nathaniel: "Victoria's getting suspicious. She asked why I smelled different."*

*Nola: "So what? You're the Alpha candidate. She's just your little Lead Tracker. What's she going to do? Leave you? She'd be nothing without you."*

*Nathaniel: "You're right. She won't leave. She's too loyal. Too stupid."*

I read that line three times.

Then I copied everything.

Every message. Every receipt. Every transfer record. Every photo. I moved it all onto a secured personal device, then locked the encrypted channel exactly as I'd found it. I wiped my access logs. Cleared the cache. Left no trace.

When Nathaniel came home that evening, I was in the kitchen making dinner. He walked in smelling faintly of sweat and pine smoke. And underneath it, just barely there, jasmine and amber.

Her scent.

"Hey, babe," he said, leaning down to kiss my temple. "Smells good."

I smiled up at him. The same quiet, patient smile I'd worn for ten years.

"Long day?" I asked.

"Brutal," he said, grabbing a beer from the fridge. "Gamma team's getting sloppy. I had to run extra drills."

Liar.

"You work so hard," I said softly. "I'm proud of you."

He grinned, that charming, easy grin that used to make my heart race. Now it just made my wolf bare her teeth.

"Couldn't do it without you, Vic," he said.

I turned back to the stove, stirring the pot, my movements calm and steady.

That night, after he fell asleep beside me, I slipped out of bed and went to my office. I locked the door. Pulled out the secured device. Opened a new encrypted file.

I labeled it: *Silverpine Restitution — Case File One.*

Then I pulled up a map of the rogue-controlled offshore account networks and got to work.

I wasn't going to cry. I wasn't going to scream. I wasn't going to confront him with raw emotion and give him the chance to gaslight me, to manipulate me, to destroy the evidence.

I was going to build a case so airtight, so publicly devastating, that there would be no escape.

Not for him.

Not for her.

My wolf growled low in my chest, a predator's purr.

The hunt had begun.
