Chapter 1

"Mrs. Miller?" a sharp male voice asked.

"Yes. Who is this?" I pressed the phone to my ear, wiping a smudge off the kitchen counter with a towel.

"Greg. I work under Rainer in corporate acquisitions."

"Rainer didn't mention a Greg."

"I just transferred from the Chicago branch last week. Look, I apologize for the intrusion, but we have a crisis."

"What kind of crisis?" I tossed the towel into the sink.

"Rainer is locked in a closed-door negotiation with the Japanese investors. They moved the timeline up."

"And?"

"He needs the Q3 financial forecast. The hard copies. He left them in his home study."

"Why didn't he call me himself?"

"His phone died right before they walked into the boardroom. He ordered me to track down your number. It's extremely urgent, Mrs. Miller. Millions are on the line."

I walked down the hallway toward Rainer’s office. "Fine. I know exactly which file you mean. I'll bring it over."

"Thank you. Bring it straight up to his office. He'll step out to grab it."

The line went dead. I grabbed the thick blue folder off his desk. I pulled out my phone and dialed the firm's main line.

"Miller and Associates, how may I direct your call?" the receptionist asked.

"Hi, Sarah. It's Marnie."

"Oh, hi Mrs. Miller! How are you?"

"I'm good. Could you transfer me to Greg in acquisitions?"

"Greg? We don't have a Greg in acquisitions, Mrs. Miller."

I frowned, staring at the blue folder in my hand. "Are you sure? He just called me."

"Positive. The only Greg we have is in the mailroom downstairs."

"Oh. Never mind then. I must have misheard the name."

"Do you want me to connect you to Mr. Miller's line?"

"No, it's fine. I'm heading over there now."

I ended the call. It didn't matter who the subordinate was. Rainer cycled through junior associates every six months. I grabbed my car keys and headed out the door.

Twenty minutes later, I parked in the visitor lot and hurried into the lobby of the corporate building.

"Mrs. Miller," the security guard, Dave, called out from his desk.

"Hi, Dave. Rainer needs some files."

"Want me to call up?"

"No need. His associate said he's waiting for them."

"Alright. Elevator three is waiting for you."

"Thanks, Dave."

I stepped onto the elevator and pressed the button for the fourteenth floor. The doors slid open to complete silence. The reception desk sat empty. A half-eaten salad rested next to the phone. Everyone must have gone down to the cafeteria for lunch.

"Hello?" I called out softly.

No answer.

I clutched the blue folder against my chest. The stiff edges dug into my skin. I walked down the long corridor. Rainer's corner office sat at the very end.

"Greg?" I asked the empty hallway.

Nothing.

I reached the heavy oak door. I raised my knuckles to knock.

I stopped.

The door wasn't latched tight. A two-inch gap revealed the dim interior. The heavy blinds were drawn shut, blocking out the midday sun.

A soft, wet slapping sound echoed from inside.

"Right there," a woman moaned.

My hand froze in mid-air.

"Fuck," a man growled.

Rainer.

I knew that voice. I had listened to that voice whisper in the dark for ten years.

I leaned closer. My stiff fingers gripped the edge of the doorframe. I peered through the narrow opening.

Vera, his twenty-four-year-old secretary, sat on the edge of the massive mahogany desk. Her silk blouse was completely unbuttoned, pushed off her shoulders. Her black pencil skirt was shoved up around her waist, exposing her bare thighs.

Rainer stood between her legs. His suit pants were pooled around his ankles.

"Fuck, Vera," Rainer grunted. He thrust his hips forward, burying his cock deep inside her.

"Yes," Vera gasped. She dug her manicured nails into his bare shoulders. "Fuck me harder, Rainer."

"You like my cock deep inside your pussy, don't you?"

"Yes. God, yes. Don't stop."

My stomach dropped. Bile rose in the back of my throat. I stared through the crack, entirely paralyzed.

My husband leaned down. He wrapped his mouth around her bare breast. He sucked hard on her nipple, pulling at the flesh.

Vera arched her spine. She threw her head back with a loud whine. "Rainer!"

"I'm going to fuck your pussy until you scream," Rainer said. He pulled his face back. His lips were wet with her saliva.

"Do it. Fuck me. Harder."

The wet slapping of his skin against hers echoed in the quiet office. He grabbed her hips. He pulled her flush against him, driving his cock in and out of her with violent, rapid thrusts.

"You take my cock so fucking well," Rainer muttered. "Spread your legs wider for me."

Vera hooked her ankles around his waist. "Give it to me. Fill me up, Rainer."

"I'm going to blow my load right inside your sweet little cunt."

"Yes, fuck, do it! Breed me, Rainer."

My vision blurred. Cold sweat broke out across my forehead.

"Look at me," Rainer commanded.

Vera opened her eyes. "I'm looking."

"Tell me whose cock is stretching your pussy."

"Yours. Yours, Rainer. Only yours."

"Damn right it is." He slapped her thigh hard.

Vera shrieked, a high-pitched sound of pure pleasure. "Rainer, please. I'm close. I'm so fucking close."

"Come for me, Vera. Let me feel your pussy squeeze my cock. Squeeze it."

"I am! Fuck, I'm coming!"

My fingers went completely numb. The strength drained from my arms.

The blue folder slipped from my grasp.

It hit the hardwood floor just outside the carpeted office. The glossy paperboard slapped against the wood. White documents spilled out. They scattered across the floorboards with a loud swoosh.

Inside the office, the thrusting stopped instantly.

Vera’s head snapped toward the door. Her wide eyes locked onto the narrow gap.

"Did you hear that?" Vera whispered. Her voice trembled.

I spun around violently. I slammed my spine against the cold drywall of the corridor.

I clamped both hands over my mouth. I refused to make a sound.

"Who is out there?" Rainer demanded. His voice was sharp. Angry.

I heard the heavy thud of his shoes shifting. The rustle of a zipper pulling up.

"I don't know," Vera said. "Someone dropped something in the hall."

"Stay here," Rainer ordered.

Heavy footsteps moved across the office floor.

Getting closer to the door.

I pressed myself flat against the wall. My heart hammered against my ribs. Ten years of marriage. Ten years of loyalty, shattered on a mahogany desk.

The brass handle squeaked.

The door swung wide open.
