My Husband's Second Identity
Chapter 2
Soon, the nursery's Family Day event officially began.
Every family sat at the table that was prepared in advance. Emily looked at Gary, who was sitting in the front row, and asked with a disappointed look on her face, "Mom, why isn't Dad sitting with us?"
I squeezed my daughter's soft face. She was still young and shouldn't be involved in such disgusting matters. "Because I'm a superwoman, so Dad has gone to help other children."
At that moment, the nursery teacher announced the start of the first activity, block building. She also said with a smile, "There's a prize for first place. It'll be a Lego spaceship."
Emily suddenly became excited and pointed at the spaceship. "Mom, I want that!"
"Okay, then let's do our best to earn it!"
When the sand glass was about to run out of time, Emily raised her hand and shouted excitedly, "We're done, Miss!"
The teacher came over, nodded her head, and was about to announce the winner. That was when a boy from the front row rushed over. It was Luke.
He pushed the building blocks over and said arrogantly, "Now, I'm the winner!"
Emily looked at the scattered building blocks and tears immediately began welling up in her eyes. She picked up a piece of building block and threw it at Luke.
Gary immediately came over and said, "Emily, how could you hit others? Apologize to Luke right now."
Emily wasn't backing down. "No way! He's the one who ruined my block build first! He's a bad guy!"
I stood firmly behind our daughter. "Gary, everyone here knows who's in the wrong. Luke should be the one to apologize!"
Shannon came over and pulled Gary's arm. "Forget it, Gary. Let's not make a fuss. You shouldn't argue with a child."
The teacher wanted to calm things down as well. At that moment, Emily suddenly began to cry. "Dad, why aren't you protecting me? Why are you shouting at me?"
How she addressed Gary caused everyone present to be dumbfounded. They looked at me, Gary, and Shannon.
Gary's face immediately turned red. Shannon wanted to say something but couldn't.
At that moment, Luke crossed his arms and said, "Who are you calling Dad? What nonsense is this? This is my dad!"
Tears streamed down Emily's face as she sobbed and shouted in a sharp voice, "Dad, say something!"
My heart ached and I glared at Gary. My voice became serious as well. "Gary, aren't you going to explain? Do you want others to misunderstand me and Emily?"
Gary glared at me and picked Luke up. "What have I got to explain? Today, I'm Luke's dad!"
After saying that, he patted Luke's head.
For a moment there, other parents began looking at me and my daughter.
"How could that child just call anyone her dad?"
"Emily never attended the nursery's Family Day in the past. This time, she came with only her mom. Do you think her mom's someone's mistress?"
"I've heard that Gary's the CEO of a major company and is very rich. I think Emily's mom wants to seduce Gary and is mistaken by her daughter."
When others were talking about me and my daughter, Gary didn't say a word. He just stood there and tried to comfort Luke. Shannon stood at one side and looked at me with a smile.
I pulled Emily, who was crying, into my arms and patted her back lightly.
I wanted to beat the hell out of the two scumbags but this wasn't the right place. I couldn't let my daughter be hurt again.
At that moment, someone who was trying to please Gary said, "Luke looks a lot like Mr. Lane. They're definitely father and son."
I raised my head and looked at Gary. A flash of guilt appeared in his eyes. He didn't continue the conversation and just laughed. As for Shannon, she stood to one side with a happy smile on her face.
I had seen Luke before, but I had never realized that Luke looked a little like Gary.
Emily was crying nonstop.
I had no choice but to ask the teacher to take us to the lounge. I wanted to comfort Emily first.
After arriving at the lounge, I comforted Emily and she gradually fell asleep.
Looking at her red eyes, my heart ached.
I tiptoed out of the room and walked to the end of the corridor and called Joe and Ben. "Joe, Ben, bring my marriage certificate, the drafted divorce agreement, and the Letter of Dismissal to the Cross Lane Nursery right now. I want them ASAP!"
When I was about to talk to them about the details, I suddenly heard a scream. It was Emily's.
My heart skipped a beat.
