Chapter 2

Laura's POV

My heart began to race extremely fast as I took a few steps backward. "Do not come near me." I yelled in a shaky voice. My breathing became hitched and I accidentally staggered backward, slumping to the floor.

I screamed out loud with tears rolling down my cheeks. "Please do not hurt me." I wailed in fear. I shut my eyes, unable to face the horrific sight in front of me. My eyes remained closed for a few minutes yet I felt nothing, not a single touch on me. I had to snap my eyes open and surprisingly I saw the mysterious woman's back turned against me.

She slowly began to walk back into the dark corridor, towards the back door. I took it as an opportunity to pick up my phone and hastily dial Kendrick's number. He picked on the second ring. "Hello?" His deep voice rang out loud.

"Kendrick, you need to come save me! Please come right now!" I cried out, pressing the phone close to my ears. I rubbed my sweaty palms against the back of my neck and broke down into tears.

"Calm down Laura, slow down. What the hell is going on?" Kendrick's voice was laced with concern. I was too disorientated to explain anything to him. Where was I even going to begin from? Was I going to say that I had seen a mysterious woman in a bridal dress? That made no sense at all.

"Just please hurry!" I cried out before hanging up. Without wasting any more time, I dialed 911 in a haste.

"911, what is your emergency?" A feminine voice rang through my phone speakers. I bit my lower lip in frustration as I thought of the right word to say.

"Hello? Is anybody there?" The feminine voice repeated. I sighed heavily and replied in a haste. "There is a woman at my house, she has a knife in her hand and she is threatening to kill me, please I need you to be here right now." I pleaded.

"Alright ma'am, please calm down and tell me your address?" The feminine voice asked in a soothing tone. I hastily called out my address to her and she promised to be there in a few minutes.

During my time of waiting for Kendrick and the police to arrive, all I did was sit in that same position and cry my eyes out. Every single noise scared me.

In a few minutes, Kendrick and the police arrived at the same time. Kendrick rushed towards me with a concerned look on his face. He pulled me into a tight hug and began to pat my back gently.

"Are you okay? My goodness Laura you scared me." Kendrick whispered softly into my ears. I gulped a lump down my throat and hastily wiped the tears off my eyes. "She was here, I swear there was a woman here. She had a bridal dress on and a knife in her hand." I ranted.

"Calm down Laura, the police are searching everywhere but are you sure that was what you saw?" Kendrick asked. I nodded my head in agreement, I knew he would think I was crazy or that I was making things up.

Some few minutes later, the police approached us with confused looks on their faces. "There is no sign or trace of anyone breaking into the apartment." One of them spoke in a low tone.

I shook my head in disagreement, there was no way that would be possible. I saw her come into my house through the back door and I was the only one who had the key which meant that she definitely broke into my apartment.

I caught Kendrick gazing at me with a worried look on his face before turning to the officers to say. "Thank you so much officers, I will be in contact." He said. The officers nodded their heads at us before walking out of the house.

"That is not possible Kendrick, I swear on my life, I saw her. She had a white dress on and a knife in her hand. She was dressed like a bride." I said with pleading eyes. I was hoping he would believe me if I pushed further but the look on Kendrick's face was discouraging. It looked like he had made up his mind to believe something else.

"Look Laura, I think you might just be stressed from all the wedding preparations, don't you think so?" Kendrick blurted out.

I scoffed at him, pushing him away from me. I rose to my feet and gazed at him in disbelief. "I can not believe you Kendrick. How could you say such a thing? I am telling the truth!" I cried out.

"Calm down. No one is against you but you heard the police? There was no sign of anyone breaking in. I just think you might be stressed and all. Ask your friend Bree to help you out with the wedding plans. You know I would help you too but I am busy with work." Kendrick said.

I felt disappointment wash over me, tears pricked from the corner of my eyes and I bit my lower lip to hold back the tears from pouring any further.

"I have to go now but I will talk to you later at night and then we can talk about all of this. Okay?" He raised a brow at me.

I nodded my head at him and watched him walk out of my house.

That same night, I had to leave the house and sleep at the hotel because I was afraid of staying alone. Bree's number remained unreachable for the entire day until the next morning when I got a call from her that she had travelled out of town to visit her sick mother.

The next morning, on my way to the saloon, I heard someone call out my name from behind.

"Laura."

I turned around to gaze at the culprit but I was shocked to see no one.

I continued walking and I had the feeling that someone was trailing me from behind.

My heart raced a bit as I turned around and saw the shadow of a female figure.

"Who's there?" My voice echoed in a shaky tone.
