Chapter 7

Chris

Fifteen minutes later, Lisa left. Could she have gone shopping first before finally leaving with another man? What happened? I was very curious and angry. I didn't expect her to take advantage of such a small opportunity to be with her lover.

"Sir, are you okay?"

"No," I replied flatly.

"What we saw today is only part of it. My suggestion is that we follow Mrs. Lisa from early in the morning. That way, you can confirm her activities for yourself, and if she is indeed having an affair, she should return to meet the man. It's just a suggestion," Mark said.

Mark was right. I will try to follow her all day tomorrow.

"Okay, we'll follow your suggestion tomorrow. One more thing, find out who sent the mysterious letter."

However, Mark's eyes widened and his brow furrowed. "What's wrong?" I asked.

"The letter was just left there on the park bench. Unfortunately, the CCTV cameras around the park are still under maintenance, so we can't confirm who left the letter there. But I'll keep investigating."

Not long after, Lisa left. I asked Mark to follow her. It turned out she went back home.

From everything I witnessed that morning, what if Lisa was just meeting her friend? Before marrying her, she had many friends compared to me. Spraying perfume on her body inside the car was normal. But drying her hair inside the car wasn't.

After making sure Lisa went inside the house, Mark and I returned to the office. That night, when I got home, I acted normally as if I knew nothing. I saw Lisa acting normally. She was active and efficient in taking care of the household chores. That's why my mother liked her so much.

Two hours before midnight, when everyone had gone to their bedrooms, I left my bedroom on the pretext that I had something to do because I had to email that night. Without suspicion, Lisa allowed me to go and asked me to hurry back.

To avoid suspicion, I deliberately turned on the lights in the study and my laptop. Then I hurried to the laundry room. Earlier that day at the supermarket, I had deliberately asked the housekeeper not to wash all the clothes because I had some new clothes to give her the next day. The housekeeper understood and postponed washing our clothes that day.

I turned on the laundry room light, and near the washing machine, I saw a large basket of clothes ready to be washed and a small basket next to it containing underwear ready to be washed. Among the pile of underwear, I saw Lisa's pink underwear.

I had seen her wearing those panties that morning. When I looked more closely, among the pile of bras, I found Lisa's black panties. I took both panties and saw that the middle part was wet and sticky with white fluid.

I realized what I did that night might disgust, but I did it solely to confirm the doubts in my heart.

When I brought the wet and sticky part close to my nose, I smelled nothing unusual at all. Could that mysterious letter have influenced me? But the oddness in the car still puzzled me.

Suddenly, I heard the bedroom door open. I quickly put the underwear in the basket, turned off the laundry room light, and rushed to the kitchen to pretend to pour tea.

Luckily, I did everything just in time. Just as I was pouring tea into the cup, Lisa entered the kitchen and opened the refrigerator.

"I thought you were in the study," she said.

"Suddenly, I wanted a cup of tea," I replied while finishing the tea in the cup. If only she had caught me in the laundry room holding her underwear, I didn't know what would have happened, because I had never entered the laundry room at all. Lisa and the head maid handled all household chores.

Suddenly, Lisa hugged me from behind and rested her head on my back. "Chris, have you finished your work?"

"Almost. What's wrong?" I stroked her hand, but I stayed in the same position.

"I can't sleep without you. I'll wait in the bedroom. Tonight, I'll sleep with no clothes on," she whispered. Then, her hand touched my sensitive area.

Ah. As a man, of course, I was aroused. Lisa was indeed skilled at teasing and arousing my libido. Throughout our thirteen years of marriage, she had never failed to seduce me. And as far as I knew, our sex life was fine. There were no issues. So, if she was indeed cheating and sleeping with many men, what was her reason?

Lisa walked away from the kitchen with a seductive look. That night, she invited me to have sex with her. However, even though my desire was rising, the odd incident at the supermarket made my desire fade. But if I refused, she would become suspicious.

I played along with her game.

After turning off the laptop and the office lights, I hurried into the bedroom, and Lisa was already lying on the bed, naked. And she always tempted my resolve.

At first, she seemed like a goddess descended from heaven to me. Her beautiful body and sexy voice always enchanted me. But, after tomorrow, if I find out the truth, I'm sure my view of her will change completely.

Under the moonlight that shone brightly that night, we enjoyed an extraordinary union. Lisa's agile movements on top of me made me feel like I was flying high. I closed my eyes and let Lisa take control of my body.

"Ah." The moans that escaped our lips echoed throughout the room.

It felt truly extraordinary and indescribable, so much so that small moans escaped my lips and joined Lisa's moans as she moved actively on top of me.

I held her hands, occasionally squeezing her breasts, which were the perfect size for me. My wife's body was like an addiction to me. I always adored her.

The union in the middle of the night, accompanied by passionate kisses, finally ended when we both reached the peak of pleasure. Lisa's body lay limp on top of mine, and I could hear her labored breathing.

That night, we slept in each other's arms until the next morning.

The next morning, as scheduled, after breakfast, Lisa would take Alice to school. Usually, I would work briefly in my study room before heading to the office. But that morning, I left the house directly because Mark was already waiting for me at a certain place.

We were ready to carry out the mission.

She asked, "If I get divorced now, will you give me a place to call home?" Marcus answered confidently, "Yes." An awkward silence filled the room. Everyone expected a dramatic response from me, but instead, I calmly took off my wedding ring and walked away. He returned home late again that night. I handed him the divorce papers I had prepared beforehand, "Marcus, let's end this marriage." Upon hearing this, Marcus tugged impatiently at his tie, "Frances, this is absurd. Over such a trivial thing, you’re making a scene and daring to bring up divorce? You've really grown bold!" He had just pledged himself to another woman, in front of everyone, yet accused me of overreacting. No surprise there. My endless tolerance over the years had led him to see me as a pushover—someone he could manipulate at will, not even worthy of expressing anger.

To placate Kathryn, who was throwing her hundredth dramatic fit, Eric asked me to step down from my role as the bride. “She’s just young and a bit clueless. Could you do me a favor?” he pleaded. “Don’t worry, you’ll always be the real Mrs. Jimenez.” I clutched the edge of my wedding dress, hesitating before giving a silent nod. As I returned to the changing room, I overheard him jesting with his friends. “Savanna’s just like a loyal pet; she wouldn’t dare to oppose me.” “Are you really letting the girlfriend take center stage at your wedding? I bet you could tell her to give up her place on the marriage certificate too, and she’d go along with it.” Eric laughed smugly. “Definitely, want to wager on it?” He bet with his friend that after the wedding, he’d get a marriage certificate with Kathryn, and even if I were shattered, I’d quietly comply. I stood there for a while, then turned to leave without a word.

Ellie lay in bed, burning with yet another low-grade fever. Ever since her pregnancy began, her body had struggled to adjust. The daily low fevers had become a relentless routine. Her husband David was always attentive. Whenever Ellie felt unwell, he would bring a glass of warm water and personally feed her a vitamin C tablet. Half an hour after taking it, she was drenched in sweat from the pain. “David…” She rolled off the bed in agony. But David, unlike his usual gentle self, simply stood by the bed, looking down at his wife. “Just endure it a little longer. Once the baby’s gone, you’ll be fine.” Gone? Ellie’s fingers dug into the concrete floor until they bled, but she felt nothing. “What I just gave you wasn’t a vitamin. It’s an imported abortion pill. You’re a doctor—you understand. Once this pain passes and the embryo dies, everything will be fine.” Ellie looked up at the man before her. No. He wasn’t a man. He was a monster. After the educated youth returned to the cities, she had risked cutting ties with her own family to marry David, a fellow returnee from her class. Back then, he’d had nothing. Two young people from vastly different social standings had come together—for love. Ellie got into medical school and, after graduation, was assigned to City Hospital as an OB-GYN. David, through Ellie’s father’s connections, entered the local Machine Tool Plant. He rose swiftly. In less than five years, he achieved what others spent a lifetime dreaming of: becoming the head of the largest factory in the area. Just two days ago, Ellie’s father died of a heart attack. She had lost her usefulness… “David, abortion pills aren’t fully developed yet. It won’t be a clean process.” Tears in her eyes, Ellie begged him. She couldn’t die here. Not like this, for no clear reason! “Medical abortions are dangerous. They can cause hemorrhaging. Please, take me to the hospital.” Her abdomen grew hotter, warmth churning inside her. She shifted slightly—and a warm gush surged from between her legs. The excruciating pain came like a tidal wave, smashing her broken little boat into the ocean. Just then, the door opened. Carolyn stepped in. Seeing Ellie on the floor, she gasped and hid behind David. “Oh, dear, what’s happened to you?” This woman was David’s sister-in-law. After his brother passed away, David had brought Carolyn to the city under the pretext of medical treatment, claiming her health was poor. She had been living with them for nearly half a year. “Hurry, take me to the hospital.” Ellie looked at the two of them, a terrible premonition settling in her heart. David frowned, crouched halfway down, and took out a handkerchief to wipe Ellie’s forehead. “Can’t you just endure it a little longer? Once the bleeding stops, you’ll be fine.” Gripping her teeth until they ached, Ellie knew the truth: drug-induced abortions were still underdeveloped. There had been many clinical accidents—that’s why hospitals hadn’t adopted them widely. “I can’t endure it. I’m dying!” David’s gaze turned vicious. “Endure it! It’s just a bastard. I’m already being merciful by letting you abort it. If you don’t listen, I’ll divorce you right now!” “What? A bastard?” Ellie was in such extreme pain her words slurred. Her child—how could it be a bastard? David was her first love. She had given him her virginity. How could he say such a thing?
