Chapter 1

Sophia's POV

I stood frozen in the doorway of what used to be our home, the crisp white eviction notice taped crookedly to the mahogany door like a public declaration of my failure. My hand shook as I ripped it off, crumpling the paper in my fist. The late afternoon light filtered through the tall windows, casting long, mocking shadows across the marble foyer I had once taken such pride in keeping spotless. Five years. Five years of marriage to Derek Kane, and this was how it ended.

I shoved the door open, my heels stabbing the floor with every step. "Derek!" I shouted, my voice cracking through the stale air thick with whiskey and desperation. "Derek, where the hell are you?"

I stormed into the living room and found him kneeling on the Persian rug I'd chosen during our first year, surrounded by empty bottles. His designer shirt was wrinkled and stained, hair a mess. He looked up, bloodshot eyes wide with guilt.

"Sophia... baby, please. I can explain," he slurred, trying to stand but falling back.

"Explain?" I screamed, fury exploding in my chest. I marched forward and slapped him hard across the face. The sound cracked like thunder. "What did you do, Derek? Tell me what the fuck you did!" I hit him again, fists pounding his shoulders as hot tears burned my eyes. "Why? Why did you do this to us?"

He flinched, raising his arms weakly. "Sophia, stop! It was just one bad streak-"

"Bad streak?" I grabbed his collar, shaking him. My voice rose to a raw shout. "You gambled away everything? My business funds? The house? Our entire life? I poured my soul into that company, working late nights while you swore you'd handle things! How could you betray me like this?"

Derek's face crumpled. "I thought I could win it back. Double it. Triple it. For us, baby. Please, I'm sorry. I fucked up bad."

"Sorry?" I laughed bitterly, shoving him so he toppled sideways. "You're sorry? I trusted you! I defended you to my family, to my friends. I ignored every red flag because I loved you. And now this?" My chest heaved, betrayal slicing deep. Every memory-our wedding, his tender promises, the nights I waited up-twisted into knives. He hadn't just lost money. He'd stolen my future, my security, my dignity.

I paced, fists clenched. "How much, Derek? Exactly how much did you destroy?"

"Everything," he whispered, voice cracking. "Savings. Your event planning accounts. The cars. The investment portfolio your parents helped start. The house is gone too."

I stopped, staring down at him. The man I once loved looked pathetic, broken. Fresh rage surged. "You bastard!" I kicked an empty bottle, sending it shattering against the wall. "I built this life with you. I gave up opportunities for you. And you traded it all for cards and bets? Look at me!" I grabbed his chin, forcing his eyes up. "Did you ever think about me? Or was I just the idiot wife cleaning up your messes?"

Before he could answer, the doorbell rang-three sharp knocks that cut through the air like a blade. Derek's face went ghostly pale. "They're here. Fuck. They're early. Sophia, you have to help me. Please."

"Help you?" I hissed, but followed him anyway, heart hammering with dread, fury, and a strange spark of something darker-liberation.

When Derek opened the door, three men stood there, radiating raw power. Viktor first-tall, broad, cold blue eyes, the loan shark who ruled through fear. Marcus beside him, sleek in a charcoal suit, political predator. And Kai, leaning casually with tousled hair and piercing green eyes, king of underground clubs.

They entered without invitation, eyes locking onto me immediately, appraising my white blouse and pencil skirt with blatant hunger. Derek dropped to his knees again.

"Gentlemen, please. I need more time," he begged. "Or... take her. Sophia, my wife. She's beautiful, incredible in bed. Take her for the night, or longer. She'll pay off part of the debt. Right, baby? Tell them!"

The words hit like a gut punch. Humiliation flooded me, but fury burned hotter. My own husband was selling me like livestock.

How dare he...?

Viktor stepped closer, voice low and rough. "Is that true, Mrs. Kane? You willing to spread those pretty legs for three dangerous men to fix your husband's mess?"

The air thickened with tension. I felt their stares like touches-raw, dominant. My skin flushed, nipples tightening despite the shame, but inside, betrayal solidified into steel.

I lifted my chin, voice steady but laced with ice. "Get out," I said to Derek. "All of you. Leave."

Derek clutched my leg. "Sophia, please don't do this. I need you."

I yanked away. "You need me? After offering me like a whore? After destroying everything I worked for? Get the hell away from me!"

Viktor silenced Derek with a glare. The three men exchanged looks, then headed for the door, each giving me a lingering, promising stare. As it clicked shut, I turned on Derek fully.

He reached for me again. "Baby, I didn't mean-"

"Didn't mean it?" I shouted, shoving him back. "You offered my body to strangers! To pay your gambling debts! I loved you, Derek. I sacrificed for you. And this is how you repay me?" Tears streamed down my face now, mixing rage with heartbreak. "I stood by you through every failure. Every lie. Every time you drained our accounts and gaslit me into thinking it was my fault for not trusting you enough. My family warned me. My friends left because of you. And now you try to whore me out?"

He sobbed. "I was desperate. They'll kill me otherwise."

"Good," I spat, voice trembling with venom. "Maybe you deserve it. But you know what? I'll do it. I'll agree to whatever they want."

His eyes widened with pathetic hope. "You will?"

"Yes." I smiled coldly, the fire in my veins turning strategic. "But not for you. I'll use them to destroy you completely. Your name, your reputation, whatever scraps of money you have left-you'll have nothing. Just like you left me with nothing."

Derek stared, stunned. "Sophia... you're scaring me."

"You should be scared," I whispered fiercely. "You betrayed me in the worst way. Sold your wife to save your skin. Get out of my way."

I turned and walked upstairs. The loyal, exhausted wife who entered this house earlier was gone. In her place was a woman reborn in fury and resolve.

In the bedroom, I sat on the edge of our once-shared bed, mind racing with plans. The betrayal still stung, deep and raw, but it fueled me now. Every memory of his lies, every night I cried alone, every sacrifice he'd thrown away all crystallized into one purpose.

Derek wanted to trade my body for his mistakes? Fine. I would set the price-and in the end, he would pay with everything.
