My Husband Killed Our Son for His Mistress Novel Cover

My Husband Killed Our Son for His Mistress

The chamomile tea was ready, honey stirred in just how Evan liked it, when his wife rolled her chair down the penthouse hallway. Through the cracked study door came his laugh — cold, dry, wrong. "She had it coming, Marcus," he said into the phone. In that instant, her billionaire husband's confession shattered everything: their son was dead by his hand, and his mistress was the reason. Now she must survive the mafia-tinged world he built around her, uncover the full horror of what he's done, and decide whether a mother's vengeance can outlast a killer's reach.

Chapter 1

The tea was chamomile. Evan liked a splash of honey before bed.

I pushed the wheels of my chair down the hallway of our Manhattan penthouse. It was late. The city outside the floor-to-ceiling windows was just a blur of black and gold lights.

His study door was open an inch. A slice of warm yellow light cut across the dark wood floor.

I was about to knock when I heard him laugh. It was a cold, dry sound.

"She had it coming, Marcus," Evan said into the phone. His voice was smooth and completely relaxed. "Sierra humiliated Priscilla in front of half the city at that charity gala. Did she really think I’d just let that slide?"

I froze. My hands clamped tight against the metal rims of my wheels.

"The kidnapping was just supposed to scare her," Evan continued. "Teach her a lesson. Put her in her place. How was I supposed to know the driver would panic?"

A pause. Then Evan sighed.

"I didn't plan for Liam to die, obviously. He was my kid too. And Sierra lost the use of her legs. It is what it is. But look around. Priscilla is safe. She’s back where she belongs."

The cup rattled against the porcelain saucer. It tilted. Hot tea sloshed over my thumb, burning the skin, but I didn't make a sound. I caught the rim by pure reflex.

I didn't cry. I didn't scream.

Quietly, I turned my wheelchair around. I rolled back into our bedroom, shut the door, and locked it.

I lay in the dark on top of the covers. My dead legs felt like lead. Staring at the ceiling, I began to count silently in my head, just like my old ballet master taught me before every big performance.

*One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.*

*One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.*

I counted until the shaking stopped. I counted until my heart turned to ice.

Two days later, Evan moved Priscilla and her five-year-old son, Marco, into our Hamptons estate.

"Think of it as a second chance, Sierra," Evan told me softly. He knelt beside my wheelchair, rubbing my numb knee. He looked so gentle. It made my stomach twist with nausea. "Liam is gone, but we don't have to be alone. You can help raise Marco. It’ll heal you."

Behind him, Priscilla stood in the sunlit hallway. Evan reached back and casually let his hand rest on the curve of her waist.

"I'd love that," I said. My voice was completely steady. I offered Marco a warm, empty smile. "Come on, Marco. Let's do your spelling homework."

That night, at two in the morning, I dialed a number I had memorized since childhood.

"Sierra?" my brother Brendan answered on the first ring.

"Brendan," I said. My tone was flat. "I need your help. I need to leave."

There was dead silence on the line. Brendan had built a tech empire from nothing. He knew what trouble sounded like.

"Where are you?" his voice shook with sudden terror. "Sierra, what did he do?"

"Just get everything ready," I whispered. "I'll tell you when."

Priscilla didn't wait long to mark her territory.

First, she redecorated the main living room, replacing my oil paintings with modern prints. Then, she convinced Evan that keeping Liam’s nursery intact was "morbid."

"A healthy family needs closure," she purred over breakfast.

By afternoon, movers were carrying out Liam's wooden rocking horse. They replaced his crib with Marco's video games and bright plastic bins.

"You need to move forward, Sierra," Evan said when I watched from the doorway. He sounded impatient now. "For all of us."

I said nothing.

Later, Priscilla slipped into my walk-in closet. She dug through the back corner and brought out my old satin pointe shoes, dusty from disuse.

She twirled the pink ribbons between her manicured fingers and smiled sweetly. "It’s so sad when people can't let go of things they'll never do again."

"Put them back, Priscilla," I said softly.

She laughed and dropped them on the floor.

She didn't notice the silver pen pinned to my cardigan pocket. The microphone inside was blinking with a tiny red dot. Brendan's security team had couriered it to me yesterday.

The reports from Brendan’s private investigator arrived in an encrypted file on my phone.

Priscilla was wearing my diamond tennis bracelet to brunch. She was answering calls on my home line. At a charity lunch on Friday, she introduced Marco to Foster Group investors as "Evan's boy and the heir."

She was erasing me. One piece at a time.

"Everything is set in Seattle," Brendan told me that evening over the private line. "I bought a clinic suite under an alias. The medical transport is on standby. The best spinal surgeon on the West Coast is ready for you. Just give me the word, Sierra."

"Soon," I said, rubbing a smooth blue pebble in my pocket. Liam had given it to me at the beach two summers ago. "Soon."

On the anniversary of Liam's death, the sky over Green-Wood Cemetery was cold and gray.

I wheeled myself to his small granite stone. The grass was damp. I took out a single blue crayon and placed it gently against the carved letters of his name.

It was the crayon he had reached for the morning the men took him. He had drawn a picture of our family, but he never finished coloring his own face.

"I'm going to survive, baby," I whispered. "I promise."

"Sierra?"

I looked up. Evan was walking across the grass, holding an umbrella. Priscilla was right beside him, wrapped in an expensive cream coat.

"I couldn't let you be alone today," Evan said, stepping close.

Before he could touch my shoulder, his phone rang. He glanced at the screen, frowned, and stepped away toward the trees to take the call.

The moment his back turned, Priscilla’s sweet smile vanished.

She walked up to the grave. She looked down at the headstone, then kicked a clump of wet dirt over the flowers I had laid.

"You know," Priscilla whispered, leaning down so only I could hear, "this little grave is just taking up space. Space that Marco will inherit someday."

I stared at her. I didn't blink.

Angered by my silence, Priscilla's eyes flashed. She spotted the folded paper in my lap—Liam’s unfinished crayon drawing.

"Give me that garbage," she hissed.

Before I could move my hands, she snatched the drawing from my fingers. With two sharp, vicious jerks, she tore my son's picture into scraps and threw them onto the wet grass.
