My Fated Mate Is the Scarred Beggar King Novel Cover

My Fated Mate Is the Scarred Beggar King

At the sacred Moon Ball, I expected the Moonstone Chalice to name me Luna beside Arthur, my childhood love and the Royal Alpha. Instead, his exact double used dark magic to crown a low-level Omega named Diana in my place, then offered me a mistress's bed without a title, hoping to seize my family's army. When I refused, he crushed Arthur's silver amulet and threatened my rank. Yet I felt no soul bond to him; his scent reeked of damp earth and rot, nothing like the boy who once took a silver dagger for me. Fleeing the castle, I found guards beating a crippled, burn-scarred beggar. I stopped them and knelt to help, but the instant I touched his ruined neck, lightning shot through me. Recognition struck: this wreck was my true Alpha, Arthur. I swore the imposter would bleed for every scar.

Chapter 3

Selena POV

The feigned charm vanished from his face, replaced by a contortion of sudden anger.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, dark velvet pouch. From it, he tipped a silver amulet onto his gloved palm.

It was the wolf charm Arthur had given me before he left for the war.

He threw it onto the stone floor and crushed it beneath his heavy boot.

"You have three days to accept my offer," he snarled.

He tried to use the Alpha's Command on me.

It was supposed to be an invisible weight that forced lower wolves to their knees.

But the pressure he projected was weak.

It felt like a gentle breeze against my hidden White Wolf blood.

"Or I will strip you of your rank and throw you to the Omegas," he finished.

I looked at the broken silver on the floor.

I felt absolutely nothing for this man.

The soul connection was completely dead.

"Do whatever you want," I said, walking past him. "I will ask my father to find me a real mate."

I left the castle and took my carriage to the edge of the territory.

The Moon Goddess Market was full of life.

I wanted to buy a paper moon lantern.

Arthur had promised to light one with me when he returned.

As I walked through the crowded stalls, I heard shouting.

Three castle guards were kicking a man in the dirt.

The man was a beggar, dressed in dirty rags.

His legs were bent at unnatural angles, and he was using his bleeding hands to shield a crushed paper moon lantern.

"Diana wants all the lanterns in the market!" a guard yelled. "Give it up, cripple!"

"Stop!" I commanded.

The guards froze, recognizing the Gamma's daughter.

They quickly bowed and ran away.

I knelt down in the dirt next to the beggar.

He slowly lifted his head and offered the crushed lantern to me.

Then, his eyes rolled back, and he fainted into my arms.

Ninety-Nine Times, Then No More Novel Cover
7.3
This was the ninety-ninth time I caught my husband, Chase Vargas, with another woman in our five-year marriage. I stood in the hotel doorway, numb, tired of the cheap perfume and his cold, familiar eyes. But this time, his mistress, a blonde woman, hissed, "He told me all about you. The pathetic wife he's stuck with because of some business deal. He said he can't stand the sight of you." Her words, meant to hurt, were things I already knew, things Chase had made sure I understood. Still, hearing them from a stranger felt like a new humiliation. She lunged, scratching my face, drawing blood. The sting was a surprising jolt in my numb world. I wrote her a check, a routine part of this pathetic scene. Then my phone rang. It was Chase, calling from across the room. "What are you doing? Are you making a scene? Clean it up and get out. You're embarrassing." He thought I had orchestrated this, that I was the embarrassing one. The betrayal was casual, complete. "I'm tired, Chase," I said, the words finally coming from a place I thought had died. "I want a divorce." He laughed, a cruel sound. "A divorce? Elena, don't be ridiculous. You love me too much to ever leave me." I hung up. He then handed me a signed divorce agreement, telling me his true love, June, my adopted sister, was back. He wanted me to play the dutiful wife for her welcome-home concert. My heart, which I thought had turned to stone, felt a final, crushing blow. He wasn't divorcing me because I wanted it. He was divorcing me for her. I signed the papers. The ninety-ninth time was the last time he would do this to me.
