Chapter 6

I woke up feeling so scared. My brain was foggy, so I couldn't even remember what happened.

I tried to stand up but I couldn't. My arms were tied to something . My legs too. I realize that I will strap to a bed and there was no way that I could escape.

I screamed for help but no one answered. 'who could do this to me?' I thought. Could it be my ex-husband?

No.

He hasn't found out who I really was.

At least, not yet.

I screamed for help but it felt like it was coming back to me like an echo.

There was no way out and I was all on my own.

I was in a sound proof room.

There was a click on the door knob and a figure stepped inside. The figure was breathing heavily all over my face. It's cold wet hands caressed my face like a priceless jewel. Even though the cloak it wore covered it's face, I could still see the sinister smile on its face. A mission accomplished.

I scoffed.

I immediately assumed that it was Jonathan. I can't believe that he could be so crazy to stoop so low to even try to kidnap me. I should be doing that.

" Let me go Jonathan." I said confidently. But he didn't reply. He just switched on a light bulb. The sudden exposure to light hurt my eyes and I squinted in the light. Still I couldn't see his face. He still wore a mask.

"I know it's you now, let me go." I said.

There was no reply.

I tried to drag the ropes out of my hand. It didn't work. Jonathan pulled out a top drawer on a small table that I never knew was there. He brought out a long syringe and injected it into a yellowish liquid;

" You know too much." He started fondling with the syringe. Droplets of the liquid splashing everywhere. He let out a star ge laugh and looked deeply into my eyes. Like he was searching for something. I gulped.

" Well I am your wife so, yes."

His eyes went back and forth, each studying my body movements:

" Susie, is that really you in there?"

I froze for a while. Scared to answer. How did he know that I was ME. I glared at him. Anger in my eyes. He let out a scary laugh.

" So it really is you. You are still alive..." He looked at my body.

"....In a way." I struggled to release my hand. I wished to slap him so hard. He caused my death. He killed me. Now he is acting so annoying.

" You ruined everything Jonathan. I will never forgive you for that." I said. He smirked.

" I made you who you are. My father did. I want my money and my son back." I ordered.

" James is my son." He shot back.

" You were never there for him. Even in his birthday...." I said.

"I was busy...." He cut me off. But I didn't let him finish.

"Busy sleeping with other women...." I cried.

"Shut up!" He said. He banged the table hard and the sound echoed around. I shook in fear. His temper is always horrible. He raised my chin high, and looked at me. Tears were forcing their selves down my cheeks.

"You can't do anything to me. You are just a mere lady."

"Nothing is possible." I said.He let go of my chin. When he looked away, I tried to loosen myself once more. He rubbed his face with his hands, consequenyly looking at the syringe that he kept on the table. He smiled, picked it up and waved it at me like a fairy wand.

" That is if you ever remember." He said. I thought of what he just said until he tried to inject me with the liquid.

" It's better that you remain dead anyway..." His voice e hoed in my head. I tried to scream for help but the more I screamed, the more tired I became. My head suddenly felt heavy. Jonathan had removed his mask. He was smiling at me. I couldn't see him clearly; but his smirk ached my heart. Finally, I fell into a deep sleep. Hoping that I will wake up and realize that all which has happened, was a dream...

The crystal chandeliers cast a golden glow across the Weaver estate's grand ballroom, their light dancing off champagne flutes and diamond jewelry. I stood in the corner, my white cane tapping softly against the marble floor as I tried to orient myself in this sea of voices and clinking glasses. "Nadia, darling, you look absolutely radiant tonight," Mrs. Harrington's voice dripped with false sweetness as she brushed past me. "So brave of you to come out like this." I smiled politely, though my heart wasn't in it. Five years of blindness had taught me to read people through their tones, and hers screamed pity. "Thank you," I replied, my fingers nervously twisting the engagement ring Nikolas had placed on my finger before his arrest. "I couldn't miss welcoming Nikolas home." The Homecoming Gala was in full swing—a lavish celebration for Nikolas Weaver's release from federal prison. Five years ago, I had sacrificed my eyesight to save him in that terrible car crash. Tonight was supposed to be our reunion, the beginning of our promised future together.

My fiancé, Russell, invited me to his seaside villa for a getaway with his childhood friend, Sunny, and the Warren brothers. For seven nights, I was wrapped in his arms, thinking it was a reconciliatory gesture after our big spat when Sunny returned from abroad a month ago. Despite her insistence on avoiding marriage, she demanded that my fiancé help her have a child. Our fight left Russell ignoring me, but now I thought things were finally getting back to normal. A month later, I discovered I was pregnant and excitedly rushed to share the news with him, only to confront a group chat on his computer in his study. Sunny had posted a disgusted emoji, saying, "A whole month and there's no sign of a baby bump on her. What's wrong with you three brothers?" One brother replied, "We took turns with her for seven days; she should have conceived by now. Besides, Sunny and Russell had fun too, didn’t you? Why isn’t your belly showing anything?" Russell’s response was, "Sunny and I have all the time in the world; she'll get pregnant eventually. As for you guys, should I arrange another go?" Another message read, "Gracelynn's sweet voice still haunts me.

I stared at my laptop screen in disbelief, my fingers frozen over the keyboard. What had started as another mundane Monday morning—another all-hands Zoom meeting for Ryan's marketing agency—had suddenly transformed into my personal nightmare broadcast live to thousands. "Amanda," Ryan's voice came through crystal clear, his face softened in a way I hadn't seen directed at me in years. "I can't keep pretending anymore. I love you. I've loved you for months." My husband didn't know his webcam was still on. He didn't realize the breakout room had failed to activate. He had no idea that his declaration of love for his colleague was being streamed to the entire company—and beyond, since someone had shared the LinkedIn Live link with external partners. I watched the chat explode with shocked reactions. Someone typed my name with a string of exclamation points.

The door swung open, and there he was—my Austin, my husband of three years, his tall frame silhouetted against the hallway light. My heart leapt as it always did at the sight of him, but something was wrong. His expression was strained, and he wasn't alone. "Austin?" I stepped forward, my arms already reaching for him. "You're home early. I thought your Seattle meetings would run through tomorrow." He didn't move into my embrace as he usually would. Instead, he gestured behind him, where a petite woman with wide, doe-like eyes stood clutching a small overnight bag. "Esmeralda, this is Keyla Tucker," Austin said, his voice oddly formal. "She saved my life during the crisis with the Westlake merger." I froze, my arms still outstretched. "Your life?" "The building was being evacuated.

I was reviewing the laundering accounts when my husband asked for a hundred thousand dollars for the nanny. It took three seconds for me to realize the woman he was trying to pay off was wearing my missing vintage Chanel earrings. Damian looked me in the eye, using his best doctor's voice. "She is struggling, Ainsley. She has five boys to feed." When Casey walked in, she wasn't wearing a uniform. She was wearing my jewelry and looking at my husband with intimate familiarity. Instead of apologizing when I confronted them, Damian protected her. He looked at me with a mixture of pity and disgust. "She is a good mother," he sneered. "Something you wouldn't understand." He used the infertility I had spent millions trying to cure as a weapon against me. He didn't know that I had just received the investigator's file. The file that proved those five boys were his. The file that proved he had gotten a secret vasectomy six months before we started trying for a baby. He had let me endure years of painful procedures, hormones, and shame, all while funding his secret family with my father's money. I looked at the man I had shielded from the violence of my world so he could play god in a white coat. I didn't scream. I am a Pierce. We execute. I picked up my phone and dialed my enforcer. "I want him ruined. I want him to have nothing. I want him to wish he was dead."
