Chapter 5

I returned to school, knowing that Mom had it handled.

The moment I entered the classroom, I noticed the weird looks my classmates cast on me. They looked at me the same way in my previous life.

Once I sat down, Janice placed a cup of warm milk on my desk. Then, she left before I could reject her.

The classmate in front of me turned around and asked, “Sylvia, are you really keeping Janice by your side? Everyone’s talking about your new pet these past few days.”

Our classmates turned over with curiosity. Even the campus delinquent was glaring at me resentfully.

My lips quirked. This was the same tactic Janice used last time.

After I protected her last time, she repaid me by painting a target on my back. I have no reason to pity someone like this.

I pursed my lips and scoffed. “No way. Why the hell would I take some bumpkin as a lapdog? I’d get a much more dignified breed if I really wanted one.”

Catching a glimpse of Janice’s shirt behind the curtains, I raised my voice purposefully, “Someone like Janice… I don’t even know how to describe her, pfft! Why would I keep her as my lapdog?”

Then, everyone watched as I threw the milk into the bin.

Our classmates laughed. One of them even exclaimed, “I was right! I knew Sylvia wouldn’t keep Janice as her lackey! Everyone hates her! Pay up, Linette!”

Our campus delinquent looked furious. She must have fallen for Janice’s lie. It looks like someone was going to be beaten up today.

During the revision period, I found a note between my books: [I am Janice. Please help me. I know you’re a good person! Please come to the rooftop tonight! I don’t want to get beaten to death! I’ll do anything to repay you!]

I frowned. Bullying was something that never sat right with me, but watching it happen to Janice...

All I could say was, “Karma does exist.”

Janice glanced at me cautiously and watched as I walked over to her and placed the note in her hand. “You really shouldn’t joke about this, Janice! Why would Wilda beat you to death? And why would you write a note to ask for my help? We’re all civilized people here!”

Janice looked terrified.

I turned to Wilda and blinked innocently at her. “Right, Wilda?”

“Of course.” She glared at Janice.

Janice grabbed my wrist as I turned to leave. “Sylvia! Why won’t you help me? Last time… I mean, you were never the kind to turn a blind eye!”

She muttered to herself confidently, “Maybe she’s different in this parallel universe?”

I tugged my arm back. “Never the kind? I don’t remember having anything to do with you before, Janice. You must’ve hallucinated it.”

The classroom erupted into a burst of laughter. Everyone believed Janice must have hurt her head getting beaten up and hallucinated about being one of us.
