My Alpha Rejected Me for His Pregnant Mistress Novel Cover

My Alpha Rejected Me for His Pregnant Mistress

At ten past eight on a freezing winter night, my world shattered. In front of two hundred wolves, the sacred mate bond broke the moment Alpha Dante raised his glass. Instead of flowing to me in the Luna's chair, his warmth claimed Kendra Evans—his pregnant mistress. Feeling his connection bind to her and her unborn child tasted like iron. For the first time in months, my wolf stirred in silent fury.

Chapter 2

I stopped walking at the border crossing I had mapped three months ago. Back when I still believed I might need an exit that no one else knew about.

The snow was deep here. Clean. The kind of cold that burns your lungs when you breathe too fast. I sat down slowly, careful not to jostle Reya. She was still asleep against my chest, her small body warm beneath the blanket I had wrapped around us both. Buster pressed his flank against my side and did not move.

The forest was silent. No pack scent. No mind-link hum. Just wind through bare branches and the distant sound of water moving beneath ice.

The mark on my neck was ice-cold. I touched it without thinking—a reflex I had not broken yet—and felt nothing. Not pain. Not the phantom ache I expected. Just cold skin where something living used to be.

I should have felt relief. The bond was dead. The thing that had transmitted six years of his betrayal directly into my body was gone. I was free.

I did not feel free. I felt empty.

I pressed both hands into Buster's golden fur and held on. His warmth was real. Steady. He did not flinch when my grip tightened.

Reya stirred against me. Her breath was soft and even. She did not wake.

I closed my eyes and tried to breathe through the silence in my chest.

That was when my wolf spoke.

Not the faint murmur I had heard for years—the quiet presence that had always felt like an echo of something else. This was clear. Ancient. Entirely my own.

*Lyra.*

I opened my eyes. The forest had not changed. The cold had not eased. But something inside me had shifted.

"Lyra," I said aloud. My voice cracked on the second syllable.

*That is my name,* she said. Her voice was calm. Certain. *I have been here the entire time. But the bond was strangling me. I could not wake while it held you.*

I stared at the snow between my boots. "You're awake now."

*Yes.*

"Because he rejected me."

*Because you forced him to,* she corrected. *You did that. Not him.*

I did not know what to say to that. My thumb moved toward my wrist—the old gesture, the old reflex—and stopped halfway.

Lyra's presence settled deeper. Not intrusive. Just there. Like a second heartbeat I had not realized was missing.

"What are we?" I asked.

*Alpha-blood,* she said simply. *Lycan lineage. Dormant for two generations. The bond kept me compressed. You kept yourself small to survive him. We do not have to be small anymore.*

I felt Reya's hand curl against my collarbone in her sleep. Her fingers were so small.

"I don't know how to do this," I said. My voice was barely audible.

*You already did,* Lyra said. *You stood up. You named his crime. You walked out. That is how you do this.*

I looked down at Buster. His golden eyes were steady. Patient. He had been waiting for me to be ready to move again.

I stopped pressing my thumb against my wrist. I adjusted Reya's weight in my arms and stood.

The forest stretched ahead of us. Dark. Cold. Endless.

I began to walk.

Dante tried to give a command at dawn.

He stood at the head of the senior council table—Marcus, the Gamma, three elder advisors—and used his Alpha tone to issue the morning's patrol assignments. His voice carried the authority it always had. The weight. The expectation of immediate obedience.

But there was a fracture in it.

Not loud. Not obvious to human ears. But every wolf in the room heard it. A biological hesitation. A crack in the foundation of his dominance.

Marcus met Dante's eyes. He did not look away.

It was the first time in six years Marcus had not submitted reflexively. Dante registered it. His jaw tightened. That stillness—the last reservoir.

He said nothing.

Marcus inclined his head slightly. Not submission. Acknowledgment. Then he turned to the Gamma and began discussing the patrol routes as though Dante had not spoken.

The Gamma hesitated. Then followed Marcus's lead.

Dante stood at the head of the table and felt his wolf go silent.

It did not speak to him that morning. Or the next.

---

Kendra moved into my quarters that afternoon.

She had the furniture rearranged by evening. The bed repositioned. The curtains replaced. She wanted no trace of me left.

She found the notebook in the back of the wardrobe while clearing out the last of my things.

It was small. Leather-bound. Unremarkable. She opened it without thinking.

The first page was dated March seventh. The entry was clinical. Precise.

*Bond transmission 11:47 PM. Arousal. Layered scent: vanilla and his cedar. Kendra's scent. Duration: forty-three minutes. Location: remote cabin, north territory.*

Kendra turned the page.

April twenty-third. June fourteenth. August ninth. Every instance catalogued with the discipline of someone building a legal case. Dates. Scents. Sensations. Mind-link blocks cross-referenced with pack records.

She read three pages and went still.

This was not a diary. This was evidence.

She tore the notebook apart. Ripped every page into pieces and burned them in the fireplace. She watched the paper curl and blacken and told herself it was done.

She did not know I had never needed the physical notebook. I had recited every entry to the pack elders' formal witness before I left. The record was already filed. Permanent. Uncontestable.

The notebook had been a test. To see if she would destroy it.

She did.

---

The Ironveil elders convened at midnight.

Three senior wolves. The oldest members of the pack. The ones who remembered the laws that predated Dante's father's reign.

Marcus presented the formal witness testimony I had left. He recited it word for word. The dates. The bond transmissions. The biological evidence of Kendra's pregnancy.

The eldest—a woman named Corinne whose wolf had gone gray decades ago—listened without interruption. When Marcus finished, she was silent for a long moment.

"Mating-law violation," she said finally. "Spoken before allied packs. Witnessed by two hundred wolves. The rejection cannot be undone."

The second elder nodded. "The Luna Accord entitles her to full territorial reparation. Custody of the child. Bloodline intact."

"And the Alpha title?" Marcus asked.

Corinne met his eyes. "Compromised. The pack felt his authority fracture this morning. You felt it."

Marcus did not deny it.

"File the violation report with the Lycan Court," Corinne said. "Formal. Immediate. The Court's decree will supersede pack law."

Marcus hesitated. "Without consulting the Alpha?"

"The Alpha," Corinne said quietly, "violated the mate bond that gives him the right to lead. His authority is no longer absolute. File the report, Beta. That is my counsel."

Marcus looked at the other two elders. They nodded.

He filed the report that night. He did not tell Dante.

By morning, the Lycan Court had received formal testimony of mating-law violation by Alpha Dante Knight of the Ironveil Pack.

The investigation began without his knowledge.
