My Alpha Rejected Me for His Pregnant Mistress Novel Cover

My Alpha Rejected Me for His Pregnant Mistress

At ten past eight on a freezing winter night, my world shattered. In front of two hundred wolves, the sacred mate bond broke the moment Alpha Dante raised his glass. Instead of flowing to me in the Luna's chair, his warmth claimed Kendra Evans—his pregnant mistress. Feeling his connection bind to her and her unborn child tasted like iron. For the first time in months, my wolf stirred in silent fury.

Chapter 3

Kendra found Dante in his office at dawn. I knew because Marcus told me later, when the formal witness testimony was filed. But I did not need Marcus to tell me what happened. I could imagine it. I had lived with Dante long enough to know exactly how his authority would fracture when tested.

She did not knock. She walked in and closed the door behind her with the kind of deliberate care that meant she was holding something volatile inside her chest.

"The elders met last night," she said.

Dante looked up from the desk. His eyes were bloodshot. He had not slept. The bond's severance was destroying him from the inside—I knew that rhythm, that biological agony. I had felt it too. The difference was that I had walked through it and found something on the other side. He was still drowning.

"I know," he said.

Kendra's hand moved to her belly. Not the soft, protective gesture she used in public. This was a grip. A claim she was trying to reassure herself still held weight.

"Fix it," she said. "Use your Alpha aura. Suppress the elders. Declare my pup the heir by Alpha decree. You are still Alpha. Make them obey."

Dante stood slowly. His body moved with the old authority—the expectation that space would yield to him simply because he occupied it. But something in the air did not shift the way it used to.

"I will handle the elders," he said.

Kendra did not move toward him. She stayed by the door. Watching.

"Do it now," she said. "Call them here. Command them. Show me you can still do this."

Dante's jaw tightened. That stillness. The last reservoir.

He reached for his Alpha tone. I was not there to hear it, but Marcus described it to me later with the clinical precision of a Beta who had served under that authority for twelve years and knew exactly what it was supposed to sound like.

Dante's voice carried the shape of a command. The syntax. The expectation of submission.

But there was nothing behind it.

No weight. No aura that pressed against wolf instincts and forced compliance. Just words in the cadence of dominance, hollow as an empty shell.

Kendra heard it. Every wolf in the pack house heard it, transmitted through the mind-link whether Dante intended it or not. The fracture was no longer subtle. It was a crack wide enough to see through.

Kendra's expression did not change immediately. She stood very still. Her hand stayed on her belly. But something in her eyes shifted—a calculation she did not yet want to complete, a possibility she had not allowed herself to consider until this exact moment.

She turned and walked out without touching his arm.

Dante stood alone in his office and felt his wolf go silent for the second morning in a row.

Isabelle Bradley learned of the elder session by midmorning. She did what she always did when pack law threatened to move in a direction she could not tolerate: she went to each elder privately, one by one, with the kind of persuasion that had kept her influential long after her Luna years ended.

She visited Elder Corinne first. Brought tea. Spoke in the measured, gracious tone of a woman offering counsel rather than pressure.

"The Luna Accord is archaic law," Isabelle said. "Rarely invoked. Emilia's so-called awakening was a performance. A trick. Perhaps a rogue artifact. Certainly not genuine Alpha-blood. You felt the theatrics of it, Corinne. Not the truth."

Corinne sipped her tea and said nothing.

Isabelle visited the second elder next. Then the third.

Two elders were sympathetic. Or at least, they nodded at the right moments and did not contradict her directly. Isabelle left those visits feeling the old satisfaction of a campaign moving in her favor.

Then she visited Elder Maren.

Maren was seventy years old. Her wolf had gone gray decades ago. She had served under three Alphas and lived through two territorial wars. She opened the door, let Isabelle inside, and offered no tea.

Isabelle began her argument. The archaic law. The performance. The impossibility of dormant Alpha-blood awakening in a woman who had shown no signs of it for six years.

Maren listened without interruption. When Isabelle finished, Maren looked at her without expression.

"I have been on my knees before two Lycan Princes in my life," Maren said quietly. "That was the third time. Do not waste my afternoon."

Isabelle opened her mouth. Closed it. No words came.

Maren walked to the door and held it open.

Isabelle left without achieving her objective for the first time in thirty years. Her hands were shaking when she reached her car.

---

I arrived at the Lycan border on foot three days after I left Ironveil.

Reya was awake now. She had not cried once during the journey. She asked questions—where are we going, why is it so cold, will Buster stay with us—and I answered each one as simply as I could. She was too young to understand what had happened at the banquet. But she understood that we were not going back.

Buster pressed close to my side as we approached the border checkpoint. Two guards stood at the gate. Lycan wolves. Larger than pack wolves. Their auras were calm and absolute.

I did not approach them as a refugee.

I stopped ten feet from the gate and met the senior guard's eyes. He was tall. Gray-furred in wolf form, Marcus had told me once. His human form carried the same gravity.

"My name is Emilia West," I said. My voice was steady. "Former Luna of the Ironveil Pack. I am requesting a formal audience with Lycan Prince Caelan Voss. Not sanctuary. A strategic consultation regarding rogue movement patterns near Ironveil that directly threaten Lycan border integrity."

The senior guard's expression did not change. But his posture shifted slightly. Listening now.

"Rogue movements," he repeated.

"Three staging points," I said. "Within twelve kilometers of your border. Coordinates: forty-seven point six north, seventy-three point two west. Forty-seven point eight north, seventy-two point nine west. Forty-eight point one north, seventy-three point four west. Your scouts have not flagged them yet. But they will find evidence if they look."

The guard went very still.

I had spent six years cataloguing things no one else paid attention to. Rogue scents near Ironveil's northern border. Movement patterns. The way certain trails went cold at the Lycan boundary as though something was waiting just beyond it.

I had brought that information with me. Not as a gift. As currency.

The senior guard looked at his partner. Then back at me.

"Wait here," he said.

He turned and sent a runner toward the Court.

I adjusted Reya's weight in my arms and waited. Buster sat at my feet. His golden eyes were calm.

The forest was quiet. The air smelled like pine and winter smoke.

I did not know yet that the scent was Caelan's. But I would.
