My Alpha Rejected Me for His Chosen Luna Novel Cover

My Alpha Rejected Me for His Chosen Luna

At 10:14 on a Tuesday night, the bond shattered—timed to the ceremonial clock above the altar. For three years, she healed wounds with blood and brewed wolfsbane, her scarred palms marking devotion while Ironvale whispered she was unworthy. She chose a white dress with lace framing the mate mark, believing she finally belonged. But when the great hall filled and the sacred text opened, the doors slammed—and Kaden spoke words that ended everything.

Chapter 5

Gareth found me in the storage wing on Saturday morning.

I was counting inventory—another rotation assignment—when he appeared in the doorway. No clipboard this time. Just his hands shoved in his pockets and a look on his face that I'd learned to read over the past few weeks.

Bad news, delivered carefully.

"Mandatory pack gathering," he said quietly. "Tomorrow night. Great hall. Kaden's calling everyone in."

I set down my pen. "What's the agenda?"

"Officially? Reaffirming Luna authority and announcing the next phase of outpost expansion." Gareth's jaw tightened. "Unofficially? A show of strength. Fiona wants the pack to see her standing on that platform with Kaden's full support."

I nodded slowly. "Everyone has to attend?"

"Everyone." He looked at me. "Including omega labor detail."

There it was. The warning. Or the opportunity. Maybe both.

Gareth shifted his weight. "I thought you should know."

"Thank you," I said.

He left without another word.

I stood alone in the storage wing, staring at the inventory sheet in front of me. The numbers blurred. My wolf stirred, low and restless.

A mandatory gathering. The entire pack assembled. Kaden and Fiona on the platform, presenting their vision for Ironvale's future.

And me, standing in the back with the other omegas, holding every piece of proof that their vision was built on my stolen work.

I pressed my thumb against the scar on my neck. It was still cold. Still numb.

But beneath it, something silver and ancient hummed with anticipation.

I went back to my room and pulled out the leather satchel.

Batch logs. Border deployment maps. Alliance contact records. Transfer authorizations bearing Kaden's signature. Gareth's patrol reports documenting the shield failures. Paisley's note.

Every piece of evidence I'd been collecting for three weeks.

I spread them out on the narrow cot and began organizing them into a formal presentation. Pack-legal format. Cold grammar. The kind of documentation that couldn't be dismissed or deflected.

I worked through the afternoon and into the evening. My hands were steady. My wolf was awake, watching through my eyes, her presence a constant low hum in my chest.

By the time I finished, the light outside had faded to dusk.

I stacked the documents carefully and returned them to the satchel. Then I sat on the edge of the cot, pressing my palms together, feeling the faint scars.

Tomorrow night, I would stand in that great hall. I would be silent and invisible, the way I'd been for three years.

Until I wasn't.

The knock came just after nightfall.

I wasn't expecting it. The labor wing was usually quiet by this hour—everyone exhausted, everyone keeping to themselves.

I opened the door.

Fiona stood in the hallway, flanked by two omegas carrying covered trays. She wore a soft cream sweater and dark slacks—expensive, casual, perfectly styled. Her expression was warm. Concerned.

Magnanimous Luna grace, delivered to the labor wing.

"Madison," she said softly. "I hope I'm not disturbing you."

I stepped back. "Luna."

She gestured to the omegas, who set the trays on my small table and left without a word. Fiona closed the door behind them.

The room felt suddenly smaller.

She turned to me with that practiced smile. "I wanted to check in. I know this has been a difficult transition for you."

I said nothing.

Fiona walked over to the table and lifted one of the covers. Steam rose from a plate of roasted chicken, vegetables, fresh bread. Food I hadn't seen in the omega rotation meals.

"I thought you might be hungry," she said. "And I wanted to talk."

She sat down on the edge of my cot—the same spot where Paisley had sat weeks ago—and folded her hands in her lap. Her posture was perfect. Her voice was gentle.

"I hope there are no hard feelings," Fiona said. "I understand that the situation with Kaden was... complicated. But we're all part of the same pack. We all want what's best for Ironvale."

I stood by the door, watching her.

She continued, her tone shifting into the inclusive language she used for everything. "I've been thinking about Paisley. About her care. I know you have a unique gift, and I know you care about her."

She paused. Let the silence stretch.

"What if we formalized an arrangement?" Fiona's smile widened slightly. "You could continue providing care for Paisley—on a voluntary basis, of course—and in exchange, we could improve your quarters. A modest stipend. Better meal access. A more comfortable position within the pack structure."

She tilted her head. "It would be a way for everyone to move forward. Together."

I looked at her. Really looked at her.

The expensive sweater. The rehearsed cadence. The careful performance of concern that had no foundation beneath it.

She was offering me a bribe, dressed as generosity.

She was asking me to resume bleeding myself dry—voluntarily this time—in exchange for scraps.

And she expected me to be grateful.

My wolf rose inside me, not a growl but something colder. Something that had been counting every insult, every theft, every polished lie.

I met Fiona's eyes.

"I formally decline," I said.

My voice was neutral. Calm. The same tone I used for inventory reports.

Fiona's smile froze.

"I'm sorry?" she said softly.

"I formally decline your offer," I repeated. "I will not be providing further care for Paisley under any arrangement."

Fiona stood slowly. Her composure held, but I saw the flicker—just a flash—of something sharp beneath the warmth.

"Madison," she said carefully. "I'm trying to help you."

"No," I said. "You're trying to use me. Again."

The air in the room shifted. Fiona's expression didn't crack, but her scent changed—sharp, defensive.

"I think you're misunderstanding—"

"I'm not," I said.

We stood there for a long moment. Two women in a small room. One wearing expensive clothes and a Luna title. The other holding every receipt.

Fiona walked to the door. She paused with her hand on the handle.

"I hope you'll reconsider," she said quietly. "For Paisley's sake."

Then she left.

I stood alone in the room, staring at the covered trays on the table.

My wolf stirred, restless and awake.

I pressed my thumb against the scar on my neck. It pulsed once—faint, cold, distant.

Tomorrow night. The great hall. The entire pack assembled.

Fiona would stand on that platform and take credit for my work.

Kaden would stand beside her and pretend the borders weren't failing.

And I would stand in the back, holding the truth.

I walked over to the table and lifted the cover off the food. It smelled good. Expensive.

I set the cover back down and didn't touch it.

Then I sat on my cot, pulled the satchel onto my lap, and reviewed the documents one more time.

Every batch log. Every map. Every alliance. Every signature.

The evidence was perfect.

And tomorrow night, I was going to use it.
