My Alpha Rejected Me for His Chosen Luna

At 10:14 on a Tuesday night, the bond shattered—timed to the ceremonial clock above the altar. For three years, she healed wounds with blood and brewed wolfsbane, her scarred palms marking devotion while Ironvale whispered she was unworthy. She chose a white dress with lace framing the mate mark, believing she finally belonged. But when the great hall filled and the sacred text opened, the doors slammed—and Kaden spoke words that ended everything.

Chapter 2

The notice appeared on the pack board Tuesday morning, pinned between the laundry schedule and a reminder about warrior training rotations.

**ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTIVE: SPECIALIZED LABOR OBLIGATIONS FOR REJECTED OMEGAS WITH RARE GIFTS**

I stood there in my labor-wing clothes—rough cotton, no pack insignia—and read it twice. The language was careful. Clinical. It designated my blood-healing service as a "standing pack duty obligation" for all rejected omegas possessing specialized abilities. It cited pack law subsection forty-seven, paragraph twelve. It made no mention of Kaden's name. No mention of the mate bond he'd severed three weeks ago.

It was bureaucratic. Impersonal. Designed to strip away any appearance of coercion.

I pressed my thumb against the scar on my neck. The mark was still numb. Cold.

Something behind my sternum shifted. Not grief. Not fury. Something colder and more permanent.

A door closing.

I took the notice down, folded it into a precise square, and put it in my pocket with the rest of the documents I'd been collecting.

Evidence. Not emotion.

I wasn't opening that door again.

Fiona's first formal Luna address was scheduled for Thursday evening in the main hall. Attendance was mandatory for all warriors and senior pack members. I was assigned to serve.

I carried a tray of water glasses to the side table and stood against the wall while Fiona took the platform. She wore deep green, her hair swept up, her posture confident. She smiled at the crowd.

"I want to talk about border security," she began. Her voice was warm. Practiced. "About the strategic framework that keeps Ironvale safe."

I set the tray down carefully.

"First," Fiona continued, "we maintain a rotating patrol system on the eastern and northern perimeters, with overlapping shifts to ensure no gaps in coverage."

I'd written that protocol eight months ago.

"Second, we've established alliance contact points with three neighboring packs—Crescent Ridge, Stonewater, and the Clearbrook territory—creating a mutual defense network that responds to rogue threats within six hours."

I'd negotiated those alliances. Alone. While Kaden signed the papers.

"Third, our wolfsbane shield deployment follows a layered defense model, with primary barriers at high-traffic breach points and secondary reinforcements along vulnerable ridgelines."

My terminology. My deployment logic. My eight months of trial and error.

Fiona gestured to a map on the wall behind her. "This is what we've built together. This is Ironvale's strength."

The warriors nodded. A few applauded.

I looked across the room. Most faces were attentive, approving. But one gamma in the back row—Gareth Cole—wasn't nodding. He watched Fiona speak, his expression carefully neutral. Then his gaze flicked toward the doorway where I stood.

Our eyes met for half a second.

He looked away.

But I'd seen it. The particular stillness of someone keeping count.

Paisley found me in the labor wing two days later.

I was folding linens—another rotation assignment—when she appeared in the doorway. No attendant. No healer escort. Just her, pale and quiet, carrying nothing.

She didn't ask me to heal her.

She sat on the edge of my cot and didn't speak for a long time.

Finally, she said, "I kept a journal."

I looked up.

"Not clinical records," Paisley continued. Her voice was soft. "Small things. What you wore the day you brewed the first wolfsbane batch. A comment you made about Kaden's scheduling that made me laugh. The way your hands shook after the hardest sessions, but you never mentioned it."

I set the linens down slowly.

"I see you," Paisley said. "I've always seen you. And I'm sorry."

My wolf stirred. Not a warning this time. Something warmer. A recognition.

I sat down beside her. "You don't have to apologize."

"Yes, I do." Her hands twisted in her lap. "My brother used my illness to chain you here. I didn't ask him to. But I let it happen. I told myself he meant well. That it was complicated."

She looked at me. Her eyes were wet.

"It wasn't complicated," she whispered. "It was wrong."

I reached over and took her hand. Her fingers were cold.

"I know," I said.

We sat there in silence. Outside, the training yard echoed with drills and shouted commands.

Paisley squeezed my hand once, then let go. She stood, smoothed her skirt, and walked to the door.

She paused at the threshold.

"Whatever you do next," she said quietly, "I won't blame you."

Then she left.

Gareth Cole found me during supply inventory on Saturday morning.

The storage wing was empty except for us. He carried a clipboard and a neutral expression, but when he spoke, his voice was low and urgent.

"I need you to see something."

He handed me a folder. Transfer logs. Wolfsbane shipment records.

I scanned the first page. Then the second. Then I went back to the beginning and read more carefully.

Kaden had been diverting the wolfsbane stores. My stores. The batches I'd personally brewed and logged and deployed to protect Ironvale's borders.

He'd been funneling them to Fiona's outpost project.

The numbers were staggering. The outpost was consuming wolfsbane at a rate that had left the main pack's eastern and northern borders critically understocked. The same borders Fiona had just praised in her Luna address.

I looked up. "How long?"

"Six weeks," Gareth said. "Since the rejection."

I flipped to the last page. The transfer authorization bore Kaden's signature.

"I can't be seen giving you this," Gareth said quietly. "But you need to know."

He took the clipboard and left.

I stood alone in the storage wing, holding the folder, and felt my wolf rise inside me—not a growl this time, but something deeper. Something that had been sleeping for a very long time.

I went back to my room. I pulled out the leather satchel from under my cot and added the transfer logs to the rest of the documents.

Batch records. Deployment maps. Alliance contacts. Transfer authorizations.

Every piece of proof that Ironvale's survival had been my work.

And every piece of proof that Kaden had stripped it away to build Fiona's vanity project.

I sat on the cot and pressed my palms together. The scars were faint now, but I could still feel them.

My wolf stirred again. Not a warning. Not a recognition.

A readiness.

I didn't know what came next. But I knew this: I was done being bled.

And I had the receipts.
