The grand ballroom of the Silvercrest Pack House glittered with crystal chandeliers and polished silver accents—our pack's signature style. I stood beside Robert, my Alpha mate, watching as he greeted the visiting dignitaries with the commanding presence that had made our pack the most powerful alliance in the region. "Luna Fiona," Alpha Reynolds of the Eastern Ridge Pack bowed slightly as he approached. "Your hospitality is as impressive as always." I smiled, touching my Luna pendant—a nervous habit I'd never quite shaken. "Thank you, Alpha Reynolds. We're honored by your presence at our alliance ceremony." As I spoke, I felt Scarlet press against my side, her dark curls brushing my hip. My daughter—the future of our pack—looked stunning in her formal dress, already carrying herself with the poise of a future leader. "Is that the new treaty document?" Scarlet whispered, pointing to a folder on the nearby table. I nodded, impressed by her observant nature. "Yes, sweetheart.

My Alpha Died Protecting Our Daughter Chapter 1

The grand ballroom of the Silvercrest Pack House glittered with crystal chandeliers and polished silver accents—our pack's signature style. I stood beside Robert, my Alpha mate, watching as he greeted the visiting dignitaries with the commanding presence that had made our pack the most powerful alliance in the region.

"Luna Fiona," Alpha Reynolds of the Eastern Ridge Pack bowed slightly as he approached. "Your hospitality is as impressive as always."

I smiled, touching my Luna pendant—a nervous habit I'd never quite shaken. "Thank you, Alpha Reynolds. We're honored by your presence at our alliance ceremony."

As I spoke, I felt Scarlet press against my side, her dark curls brushing my hip.

The one we discussed this morning."

Robert glanced down at us, his eyes warming with pride. Through our mate bond, I felt his love flow toward both of us—a steady, reassuring current that had been my anchor for years.

"You've raised an impressive heir, Luna," Alpha Reynolds commented. "She has your keen eye for detail."

Before I could respond, Robert placed his hand on my lower back, his touch sending familiar warmth through our bond. "And her father's strategic mind," he added with a smile.

The three of us moved through the crowd together, a united front that commanded respect. I caught several admiring glances from the visiting Lunas, who always seemed to study my every move. As a former rogue wolf who had risen to Luna status through merit rather than birthright, I'd learned to carry myself with extra grace under their scrutiny.

"The Northern Packs have arrived," Marcus, our Gamma, informed us with a subtle nod toward the entrance.

Robert squeezed my hand before releasing it. "Ready?"

"Always," I replied, straightening my shoulders slightly.

We positioned ourselves at the center of the room as the massive oak doors swung open. The visiting Alphas entered in a procession of power and prestige, their Lunas beside them in elegant gowns that represented their pack colors.

I stepped forward, my Luna aura extending outward in waves of welcome and authority. The visiting Lunas instinctively lowered their heads slightly—a gesture of respect I'd earned through years of leadership.

"Welcome to Silvercrest territory," I began, my voice carrying effortlessly across the room. "We are honored to—"

The doors burst open again, interrupting my speech.

A woman stood in the doorway, her presence immediately commanding attention. She wore a simple blue dress that highlighted curves in all the right places, but it was her scent that hit me like a physical blow.

Floral. Herbal. Intoxicating.

The unmistakable scent of a fated mate.

I watched in horror as Robert froze beside me, his body going rigid as his nostrils flared. Through our bond, I felt his Alpha wolf surge forward with such force that I staggered slightly.

"Robert?" I whispered, reaching for him.

His eyes were fixed on the woman, dilated with shock. "It can't be," he murmured.

The woman's gaze locked with his across the room, and a small, satisfied smile curved her lips. She began walking forward, each step deliberate and confident.

"Hello, Robert," she called out, her voice carrying across the now-silent ballroom. "It's been too long."

I felt Scarlet press closer to my side as whispers erupted among our guests. I recognized the woman now—Emma Cole. Robert's college girlfriend. The one he'd told me about during our early bonding days.

"Emma," Robert breathed, his voice strangely strained.

She stopped directly in front of him, ignoring me completely. "I know this is unexpected, but I had to come. The Moon Goddess has spoken."

My Luna aura flared instinctively, sensing the threat. I stepped forward slightly, placing myself between them.

"Miss Cole," I said coolly. "This is a private ceremony for allied packs."

She finally looked at me, her eyes narrowing with calculation. "I understand, Luna... Fiona, isn't it?" Her tone made my name sound like an insult. "But I'm afraid this concerns your mate."

Robert's wolf howled in his mind—I could feel it through our bond—creating a painful pressure that made me wince.

"I am Robert's true fated mate," Emma announced loudly enough for everyone to hear. "The one the Moon Goddess intended for him."

Gasps echoed through the ballroom as all eyes turned to us.

"Robert and I were meant to be together," she continued, pointing at me with a perfectly manicured finger. "She is merely a chosen mate—a placeholder for pack convenience."

I felt the room spin slightly as Robert remained frozen beside me, his silence deafening.

"Robert?" I whispered again, reaching for our bond.

His eyes met mine briefly before darting away, conflict written across his features.

The visiting Alphas and Lunas began murmuring among themselves, some taking steps backward as if to distance themselves from the unfolding drama.

I straightened my spine and touched my Luna pendant, drawing strength from it. My aura expanded outward, filling the room with calm authority.

"I believe we need to adjourn for the evening," I announced, my voice steady despite the chaos inside me. "Please enjoy the refreshments while we attend to this... matter."

As the guests reluctantly moved toward the exits, I maintained my composure, though I could feel the foundation of my world beginning to crack beneath my feet.

The greenhouse was my sanctuary in a pack house that had never felt like home. Dawn hadn't yet broken when I slipped inside, the familiar scent of damp soil and blooming flowers wrapping around me like an embrace I'd long been denied elsewhere. My fingers trembled slightly as I reached for the watering can—a weakness I couldn't afford to show outside these glass walls. I focused on the white lilies, my favorites. Their pure petals reminded me of what I once was—hopeful, untainted. Before the mate bond that became my prison. "You're wilting too, aren't you?" I whispered to a drooping bloom, gently supporting its stem. My wolf, Luna, whimpered softly in the back of my mind. Once silver and strong, she now barely stirred, weakened by the sickness that had been consuming us both since I gave too much blood to save William three years ago. A sudden tremor ran through my bones, stronger than the usual morning weakness.

I'd been smiling for two hours straight, playing the perfect Luna-to-be, but the noise was finally winning. 'I need some air,' I murmured to Mira, who nodded with understanding before turning back to her own conversation. The cool night air hit my face like a blessing as I slipped through the bar's side door. Silvermoon territory at night was beautiful—the trees rustled gently, and moonlight painted everything in silver and shadow. I took a deep breath, letting Selene, my wolf, stretch contentedly within me. For just a moment, I could pretend I was alone with the night sky. Then I heard Lucca's voice.
