Chapter 4

Maya's POV

I would gladly do whatever Caden asks me to do, I know who he is, he doesn't joke, when he says a word, he means every word in his life and would bet to give away all his billions if he doesn't do what he says. Now he is leading me off from where we were, my heart is clouded by suspense as to where he is taking me and what he will want me to do.

I take in heavy breaths, trying out not to make him notice it though as his hand is draped over me, giving me a sense of calm and warmth. I'm surprised that all of a sudden, he decided to change and give me a warm and friendly treatment. He even apologized for the way he kicked me and promised to make up for it. I wonder how he will make up for it.

We pass through a flowery path in his residential estate, their scent hits my nose and I'm sniffing it all I can. This environment will really suit a student like me, I can read and adapt well in a residence like this, it isn't the type where you would be distracted.

I temporarily suspend the thought, this isn't what I came for. I earnestly want to know what Caden has in his mind, to know my fate. If it's something beyond my power, then I'm done for.

We take the round space to the path that leads to an outdoor sitting space, a round table covered with a white sheet, then the chairs are decorated as well with ribbons tied to the side. He then pulls the seat and gestures to me to sit on it. I wonder if this is one of the make-ups he was talking about.

At first I insisted in case this was a test, I should be the one pulling a chair for him to sit and not him doing that to me. Then I remember that disobedience is a great offense before him, so I choose to comply.

"Thanks sir." I mutter in a submissive tone, my throat almost drained of my voice. If not that he is close by, he wouldn't hear what I'm saying.

"Please call me Caden." I look at him in shock, what does he think he is saying? I haven't dared that to any high-ranking family member by calling them by their names, talk less of starting this with him. No, it's dangerous.

Like he knows what I'm thinking inside me, he shoots me a warning glare which soon disappears. A grin takes replacement. I look down, nor wanting to see his face, I don't know what to say but I can't accept it.

"Would you?" He lowers his voice and speaks to me, I keep mute. My response might trigger anger in him. He reaches out and takes my mind, I would want to ask why he is so kind all of a sudden but my guts wouldn't let me do that. If at all I have to do this, I would address him as sir which isn't what he asked me to call him, another trap.

After long persuasion, I finally agreed to calling him Caden but deep inside me, I would speak to him in a neutral but respectful manner so as not to call him sir. Then he calls the waiter to bring in some delicacies and drinks, I smile inside me, from rejection to dining with the President. By walking away from the mocking crowd, I have gained myself free food.

"We are good to go!" He declares, then heaves. I nod. Now we are finished with our meal and I have shown appreciation, there is nothing left but to hear what he has to say and accept it. Just wishing it wouldn't be something that would cost me a whole lot because from the way I'm seeing, he doesn't accept no as an answer, his motive, all his life is programmed to get a yes. Worst is that here, I have a second option which is getting into the sex jail, something I'd never accept.

"This is a secret I want to tell you, if anyone speaks this, I'll kill you straight away." I shiver at the fierce manner he declared this, does he have a changing personality or is just threatening me?

I take in a gulp of saliva, holding myself from emotions, fear, as he approaches my seat, standing up from where he sat. Before this I have a special experiment for you, still part of the deal.

"I got to test you before the actual thing, come with me." He turns and walks off me, I rise and follow him into the house. We get into the elevator and it ascends, stopping at the floor he intended it to.

We walk right through the corridor, then he opens a door and gestures to me to get inside the room, I scan it through and it's a bedroom, a massive one with a king sized bed, covered in red velvet linen, embroidered with gold around the edges. I step backward in fear while he is still at the door.

"You wanna go for the second option, get inside." He waves with his hand, the pressure pushes me in. After entering, he gets in and locks the door. "I want to see how good you are in bed, don't think you would guess what I'm going to ask of you as the second option because it's not what you think."

"Hmmm," I sigh.

“You really wanna do this? I don't wanna force you, you make the choice yourself.” His meek voice gets me thinking otherwise, a new thought comes to mind.

“If I do this with you, will Kennedy know?” I summon courage to ask, looking at him with boldness. He narrows his eyes as he glares at me.

“What do you mean? Why did you ask?”

“Because he publicly rejected and humiliated me when I confessed my love for him.” My voice cracks and eyes emit tears as I remember the great shame he gave me.

Caden turns around to me, draping his hand over my neck. His seductive cologne sweeps over my nose. I shut my eyes slightly as he comforts me.

Who could have thought a dreaded mafia like Caden would be so gentle and sensitive to me?

“If it's so, he will surely know. He hates me so much, so being with me will hurt him really bad.” He claims. “I'll help you get revenge against him.

I moan in ecstasy.

"Now get your clothes down!" He growls with lust. In a minute, my clothes are down, he follows suit. My eyes pop out wide, seeing my man naked. Oh my God, this is forbidden!

"Get on the bed!"

This time around, he doesn't wait for me to carry out his instructions, he carries me in his arms and drops me on the bed. I bounce heavily on the soft bed, groaning in joy.

"You haven't let me in yet and you are groaning, what will happen when I finish with you? Mind you, I'm deadly serious here, if you don't meet my taste, I'll have no choice but to throw you into the sex jail."

Are you ready?"

The pestle felt heavy in my cramped, aching fingers. I brought it down hard against the dried yarrow root, grinding it into a fine powder. The Moonveil Pack’s Omega healing ward was little more than a dilapidated shack at the edge of the territory. It smelled constantly of cheap bleach, damp wood, and the bitter tang of medicinal herbs. But the smell I couldn't ignore today was the scent of my own fear. I stopped grinding and stared at the crumpled piece of paper resting on the edge of my scratched wooden counter. *Final Notice: Medical Termination and Eviction.* The words blurred as my eyes stung. My mother, Amy, was lying in the back room, her breathing shallow and rattling. The pack charged exorbitant fees for Omegas to receive even basic care, and I was out of time. If I didn't pay her medical debts by tomorrow morning, they would cut off her treatments and throw us out of the ward.

The grand pack hall thrummed with anticipation, hundreds of wolves gathered beneath the vaulted timber ceiling. I stood beside Victor on the raised platform, my Luna dress—a deep emerald that once made his eyes soften with pride—now feeling like chains against my skin. The Lycan Council Summit was only three days away, and this was meant to be our moment of triumph. "Brothers and sisters of Silver Creek," Victor's voice boomed across the hall, his Alpha tone making the younger wolves straighten instinctively. "The Summit approaches, where we will finally claim our rightful place among the dominant territories." Applause erupted. I smiled, the expression as practiced as breathing after fifteen years. My hands remained clasped before me, the perfect picture of a supportive Luna. But my wolf stirred uneasily within, sensing something amiss in the way Victor's gaze swept past me to linger on the crowd below. "To commemorate this historic moment," he continued, turning to me with what others might mistake for warmth, "I have a gift for my Luna." My heart, foolish thing that it was, still fluttered with hope. Perhaps the distance between us these past months had been the stress of preparation.

The fluorescent lights in the pack hospital made everything look corpse-pale. I stood beside the examination table where my mate lay, his skin gray and clammy, his once-commanding Alpha aura reduced to barely a flicker. Dr. Aris adjusted his glasses and delivered the verdict with clinical detachment. "End-stage renal failure. The wolf-poisoning has destroyed both kidneys completely." Giana's perfectly manicured hand flew to her throat. "There must be something—" "There is." Dr. Aris turned to me. "Luna Adelina possesses rare healing bloodlines. She's a perfect match." I didn't hesitate.

The monthly pack meeting hall buzzed with an energy I hadn't felt in months. Werewolves filled every seat, their conversations creating a low hum that seemed to vibrate through my bones. I sat in my designated chair beside Jackson's empty Alpha seat, my hands folded carefully in my lap, maintaining the composure my royal upbringing had drilled into me. Luna Mendoza rose from her place at the front table, her graying hair pulled back in its usual severe bun. The room fell silent immediately—her authority as the former Luna still commanded respect, even if mine had long since withered away. "Pack members of Silver Creek," she began, her voice carrying the formal weight of tradition. "Tonight, we address the future of our bloodline." My chest tightened. I knew that tone, had heard it in countless conversations where my name was whispered with disappointment. Where my failure as a Luna was dissected like a carcass. "As you all know, our pack has faced...
