More Than His Partner, She's Queen

More Than His Partner, She's Queen

For five years, I was Ashton Miller's invisible partner, his loyal fiancée, pouring my life into building his empire from the shadows. Tonight, the Bronze Deer exhibition, my masterpiece, was finally opening at the Met, a testament to our shared future. Then, Bianca, a third-tier actress, stepped into the spotlight in *my* custom Vera Wang wedding dress. My blood ran cold as Ashton's arm circled her waist, his whispered words promising to make her the "new queen of the city." Five years of trust and sacrifice crumbled. I was a blood bag, drained and discarded. When I publicly exposed their lies, Ashton cornered me backstage, his face twisted in fury, threatening to ruin me, to blacklist me forever. I ripped off his engagement ring, tossing it at his chest. "We're done," I said, walking out as his enraged screams echoed. The man whose empire I secretly built called me a parasite, his mistress feigning tears, painting me as delusional. My guilt vanished, replaced by freezing, absolute hatred for the man who twisted reality to erase my existence. Standing in the New York rain, I finally pulled out the military-grade encrypted phone hidden for five years. The line clicked open instantly, a low, gravelly voice asking, "Is it you?" Before I could answer, Archer's voice hardened: "Give me the location. I'll be there in ten minutes. Who touched you? I want his life."

Chapter 5

Claudia Sims POV: Archer's promise bled through the speaker, carrying a metallic scent of real blood. On Wall Street, they called him the "Cleaner." When Archer Dillard said he wanted a man's life, he wasn't speaking in metaphors. I took a deep breath, forcing the tightness out of my throat. I quickly read off the address of the East Village motel. "Stay where you are," I said, my voice dropping into a flat, tactical rhythm. "Do not move on him yet. I need to see what cards Ashton plays in the daylight." The line went dead silent. I could hear the grinding of Archer's teeth. Three seconds passed. "Fine," Archer bit out, compromising only because it was me. "My team will be at your door before dawn." I hung up the phone. I slid down the peeling wallpaper until I hit the floor. I pulled my knees to my chest and listened to the rain batter the window. I didn't close my eyes once the entire night. At 6:00 AM, a harsh beam of sunlight cut through the broken blinds, hitting my pale face. I picked up the cheap backup smartphone I had bought with cash years ago. The screen lit up with dozens of push notifications. *Page Six* had the top headline. The bold black letters screamed: *Media Mogul's Crazy Ex-Assistant Has Delusional Meltdown at Gala.* I tapped the link. The page was flooded with maliciously edited videos. They showed me snatching the microphone, cutting out the part where I recited the data, making me look like a screaming lunatic. Ashton's PR machine had worked through the night. They were painting the classic picture: the hysterical, obsessed woman who wanted to destroy the man she couldn't have. He used this exact playbook five years ago to drive a rival CEO to suicide. I opened Twitter. The hashtag #ClaudiaCrazy was the number one trend in the country. Thousands of vile, hateful comments flooded my screen every second. Bianca's rabid fan base had already started doxxing me. Someone posted a forged psychiatric evaluation with my name on it, claiming I had a history of violent schizophrenia. I stared at the crude forgery. A cold, mocking smile pulled at the corner of my mouth. Suddenly, the backup phone vibrated violently in my palm. The caller ID flashed Ava's name. I swiped to answer. Before I could say a word, a choked, terrified sob burst through the speaker. "Claudia..." Ava's voice was shaking so hard I could barely understand her. "They're outside the bakery. There are so many of them." A loud, violent crash erupted in the background. The sound of a brick shattering the front display window of the bakery. I heard a mob screaming outside, demanding she hand over the "homewrecker." My heart violently contracted. The blood drained from my face. Guilt and pure, volcanic rage exploded in my chest. Ava was the only person who had shown me kindness in my darkest hours. I swore I would never let my shadows touch her. "And a man in a suit came to the back door," Ava cried, her breath hitching. "He shoved a cease-and-desist letter at me. He said Ashton Miller is suing me for a million dollars for aiding a criminal. Claudia, I'm going to lose the shop." Ashton was trying to burn Ava's life to the ground just to force me out of hiding. My fingers clamped around the plastic phone case. My knuckles turned stark white. My fingernails dug so deeply into my palm that the skin broke, and a drop of blood welled up. I forced my voice to be incredibly soft, incredibly steady. "Ava. Listen to me. Lock the steel door to the back kitchen safe room. Sit on the floor. Do not look out the window." "Okay," she whimpered. "I promise you," I said, every word a vow. "In fifteen minutes, every single person outside your shop will be gone." I ended the call. The warmth in my eyes vanished entirely. I was done waiting. I picked up the black encrypted phone and hit the single button. Archer answered before it could ring. "Archer," I said, my voice sounding like it was echoing up from a frozen hell. "Take over the bakery on Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn. At all costs." Archer didn't ask questions. He didn't hesitate. "Done." He paused for a fraction of a second. "My crisis team is downstairs." I walked to the window and hooked a finger through the broken plastic blinds. Down on the trash-littered street, three black, armored Maybachs sat idling like silent ghosts in the morning light. "Heavy footsteps echoed in the hallway and stopped outside room 204. Someone knocked on the door three times, deeply respectful."

But the very night she was hired, she received a terrifying call from the ER—her quiet roommate, Hazelle, had been drugged and severely traumatized at a Hamptons party. When Johana rushed to the hospital, she didn't find the police. Instead, she found a team of ruthless billionaires erasing the crime. Leading them was Dalton Black, the cold, arrogant older brother of her new student. Within minutes, Dalton's fixers wiped the hospital's security footage, deleted all digital evidence, and forcefully transferred Hazelle to a locked private psychiatric facility. "We are ensuring her privacy." Dalton's voice was devoid of emotion, treating the horrific assault like a minor PR glitch. His friends mocked Johana's powerlessness, while Dalton authorized a blank check to pay for the private ward, effectively burying the scandal and buying their silence. Johana stood in the sterile hallway, trembling with a mix of despair and absolute rage. How could they destroy an innocent girl's life and simply pay to make it disappear? Why was the truth so easily erased by money? She had no wealth, no connections, and no proof, but she refused to be a victim of their cover-up. Every time she tried to be reasonable or show a hint of kindness, the system tortured her with agonizing cardiac pain, cementing her status as the most hated monster in the family. The most absurd part happened when she threw a hysterical, system-mandated tantrum over a gossip magazine, and Isaac's icy demeanor suddenly melted. He gently touched her hair, offering the one thing she desperately needed. "Stop crying. I'll handle it." Just as a spark of hope ignited in her chest, the system's critical death warning exploded in her skull: accepting his sympathy would instantly deduct thirty days of her life. Alondra spent three hours making soup for her husband, only to find him at the hospital tenderly holding another woman's hand. "I'm four weeks pregnant, Gerard," the woman said softly. Gerard coldly handed Alondra a divorce agreement, claiming their three-year marriage was just a placeholder because this woman had once saved his life. Heartbroken, Alondra fled in her car, only to realize her brakes had been completely disabled. She spun out of control and crashed head-on into a massive delivery truck. As she lay trapped in the mangled wreckage with her ribs crushed and blood filling her mouth, Gerard's black Maybach pulled up to the curb. He stared at her dying body through the window with a completely blank expression. He didn't call an ambulance or even open his door. He simply rolled up his tinted window and drove away into the rain. A raw, suffocating hatred burned in her chest, hotter than the pain in her shattered bones. She couldn't understand how the man she had loved and served so devotedly could just coldly watch her die like a piece of trash. Opening her eyes again, Alondra gasped for air. She had returned to the exact morning two years ago, right before she was supposed to deliver that pathetic soup. When Gerard walked in and threatened her with divorce, she didn't cry or beg. "I agree. Let's divorce," she said calmly, packing her bags to reclaim her true identity as a billionaire heiress.
