Chapter 18

CHAPTER 18 - THE SORCERESS STRIKES

(Narrative only - non-immersive, safe for teen readers; no graphic or romantic role-play)

The Oracle's valley had barely settled from the shockwaves of the Binding when a heavy stillness swept across the air-unnatural, suffocating, sharp enough to make the crater wolf's fur bristle.

Aiden slowly pushed himself upright, steady but dazed.

"I feel like I've been gone for hours," he murmured, touching his chest. "The bond... It's real."

"You were close to fading," the Oracle said quietly. "The Binding saved you."

Lyria exhaled-relief mixing with the lingering tremor of fear.

Aiden was alive. That was all that mattered.

But the Oracle lifted their veiled face sharply-

as if listening to a distant echo.

The crater wolf growled low in its throat.

"She is near."

Lyria tensed. "Seraphina?"

The Oracle nodded once.

"She brings a force with her. And she brings hunger."

Aiden's eyes hardened instantly. "We need to get out of here."

"No," the Oracle replied calmly. "Running is no longer an option."

A Gathering Storm

The valley began to darken-clouds swirling unnaturally overhead.

Wind tore through the trees.

Pools of vision-water rippled violently, distorting their reflections.

The crater wolf stepped protectively in front of Lyria and Aiden.

"She is breaking the wards of the valley."

Aiden turned toward Lyria.

"This time, we face her together."

Lyria nodded, though fear tightened her chest. The Binding made their flame resonant-yet she wasn't a seasoned fighter, and Aiden was still recovering.

The earth vibrated beneath their feet.

Then the sky cracked open.

Green fire split the clouds, spiraling downward like a storm-torn ribbon.

A figure descended in the center of the valley-

cloaked in emerald magic,

eyes burning with cold fury.

Lady Seraphina.

She landed lightly on the ground, her gown billowing with enchanted wind, her aura bright enough to make the pools shatter with a hiss.

The Oracle's voice rang out sharply.

"Sorceress. You break sacred ground."

Seraphina smiled-a cold, brittle smile.

"Ground breaks easily when it stands in my way."

Her gaze swept the valley, then locked onto Lyria.

Hatred sharpened her expression.

"You survived," she said flatly. "I am... impressed."

Aiden stepped forward, sword drawn. "Leave her out of this. Your real fight is with me."

"No," Seraphina replied. "My fight is with destiny. And you-both of you-have decided to defy it."

The Demand

Seraphina's magic twisted around her fingers, forming long, shimmering claws.

"You had one task, Aiden," she hissed. "One destiny. To unite the throne with the coven. To stand beside me."

Aiden held his ground. "It was never my choice."

"You made it your choice when you ran with her."

Seraphina's gaze cut to Lyria.

"A wolf-blooded stray who doesn't understand the danger she carries."

Lyria felt her flame stir. "I never wanted any of this."

"LIES."

Seraphina's voice cracked like lightning.

The pools at her feet boiled.

"You awakened the prophecy. You bound yourself to the Crowned Heart. And you force the kingdom into chaos. You are the reason everything I built is crumbling."

Aiden stepped in front of Lyria again. "Seraphina. That's enough."

"Is it?" she whispered.

She raised both hands-and the ground split open beneath Lyria's feet.

Roots twisted up like shackles.

Vines coiled around her wrists, latching with painful strength.

Aiden lunged. "LYRIA!"

A shockwave of green energy blasted him backward, sending him sliding across the stones.

"Aiden!" Lyria cried.

He groaned-but began to push himself upright again.

Seraphina stalked toward Lyria, her steps silent, her eyes glowing.

"You don't understand what you've taken from me," she whispered.

The emerald glow of her magic sharpened.

"Perhaps... I should show you."

The Dark Ritual

Seraphina's magic swirled, forming a ring of crackling symbols beneath Lyria-foreign, wicked runes that hummed with corrupted energy.

The Oracle stepped forward, staff raised.

"STOP. This is forbidden magic-"

Seraphina's arm flicked.

A blast of green power struck the Oracle, sending them stumbling backward into a vision pool that shattered upon impact. Light flared around the pool like broken stars.

The crater wolf lunged at Seraphina-but she snapped her fingers.

A cage of emerald thorns erupted around it, locking the wolf in place.

Lyria's heart pounded. "Let them go!"

Seraphina knelt in front of her.

"You ruined everything," she whispered. "Now you will fix it."

Aiden finally staggered to his feet. "Seraphina-don't."

Her eyes locked on his.

"I warned you," she said softly. "If I cannot have the Crowned Heart... then no one will."

She placed her hand on the glowing runes.

The circle around Lyria ignited.

The vines around her wrists tightened painfully-

draining her flame.

Draining her power.

Lyria gasped. "What-what are you doing?"

Seraphina's voice dripped with triumph.

"I'm taking it."

Aiden's face went pale. "NO!"

The ground shook violently as Lyria's silver flame flickered-

pulled from her chest like threads of light.

Pain flashed through her. She cried out, struggling against the vines.

Aiden sprinted forward, pushing through waves of Seraphina's magic.

"LYRIA-HOLD ON!"

Seraphina snarled, hurling more energy at him. But he pushed through it-

step by step-

driven by sheer determination.

The crater wolf roared from its cage.

"Break the circle, Crowned Heart! Break it NOW!"

Aiden summoned the faint glow of silver still lingering in his veins.

He lifted his sword-

And with a battle cry of pure defiance-

He struck the runic circle.

CRACK-

Light burst outward.

The vines recoiled.

Seraphina staggered backward with a shriek as her stolen magic snapped out of her grip.

Lyria collapsed into Aiden's arms as the ritual broke, her flame flickering weakly but alive.

Seraphina steadied herself, trembling with rage.

"You traitor," she whispered.

"You ruined EVERYTHING."

Aiden held Lyria close, eyes blazing.

"You will not touch her again."

Seraphina's face twisted into cold cruelty.

"Then I will break you instead."

She raised both hands-

magic swirling into a violent storm.

The valley trembled.

The Oracle rose from the shattered pool, voice ringing across the chaos.

"ENOUGH."

But Seraphina was beyond reason.

She unleashed her full power-

a blast of emerald fire streaking toward Aiden and Lyria.

Aiden shielded Lyria instinctively-

But at the last second-

A barrier of silver light erupted from the ground.

The crater wolf.

The Oracle.

And Lyria's fading flame all surged together-

forming a protective wall.

Seraphina's attack collided with it, exploding in a blinding flash.

When the light faded-

Seraphina was gone.

Driven back-but not defeated.

Aiden knelt, catching his breath, hands shaking.

Lyria's voice was barely a whisper.

"She won't stop."

Aiden's expression was grim.

"No," he said softly. "But neither will we."

The Oracle stepped forward-

voice steady, eyes gleaming beneath the veil.

"The sorceress has taken her first step toward war."

"Now you two must take yours."

The crater wolf growled low in agreement.

Lyria looked at Aiden.

Aiden looked at Lyria.

The bond between them pulsed-

not just with magic,

but with courage.

The prophecy had awakened.

And there was no turning back.
