Chapter 5

My phone vibrated. It was another message from Owen.

[How was your day? Did work go smoothly?]

The heat on my face still hadn’t faded. I almost complained to him about Leo, then immediately felt something was off.

Why would I tell Owen that I sexually harassed my boss?

I copied what I’d typed, sent it to my mom instead, then deleted it from the chat with Owen.

[Mom, I touched a man’s chest today.]

She replied instantly.

[I’ve touched six.]

[Nice.]

I was speechless. I didn’t want to communicate with this lustful woman anymore.

And it was true that I had been the one to take advantage first.

So I replied to Owen instead.

[It was fine. Work was pretty easy today. I should be able to get off on time.]

[In that case, would Miss Hallie be willing to grace me with her presence for dinner tonight?]

Owen sent the Bentley again to pick me up.

The driver stayed silent the entire way and delivered me straight to the restaurant.

I nervously pushed open the private room door.

This was my first time coming to a place like this dressed as if I’d just squeezed onto the subway. Right now, I look exactly like a kept college student.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, bracing myself to face an old man before shoving the door open.

“Mister, sorry I’m late.”

It was very quiet.

I didn’t wait for an answer and opened my eyes only to find no old man in the room.

Instead, it was Leo.

When we locked eyes, the atmosphere instantly turned awkward. Why was it him?

I quickly lowered my head.

“Sorry, sir, I went to the wrong room. I’m looking for Owen.”

“I am Owen.”

I felt like I’d just heard a ghost speak.

Leo’s voice sounded like it came from another dimension. As he laughed softly, it didn’t feel real, yet it drew me forward.

I gathered my courage and looked up again.

It wasn’t a ghost. It really was Leo.

He was still wearing the same suit from work. One button at his collar was undone, making him look more relaxed.

He tilted his head slightly, smiling at me.

“Owen…? But you’re not old…”

I muttered to myself.

Owen couldn’t help laughing. Then he stood and walked toward me.

He leaned down, close to my ear.

“Whether or not I am old, don’t you know?”

My face, which had finally cooled down, heated up all over again.

His voice was deeply magnetic. The moment he started speaking, something in my head snapped, and my brain went offline.

Desire surged up uncontrollably.

I reached out in front of me. The Owen in front of me seemed submerged in a faint lavender glow.

Suddenly, I froze. My hand stopped midair.

An invisible force restrained me. The source was clearly Owen in front of me.

However, he only raised an eyebrow, then reached out and grasped my suspended hand.

“What, didn’t get enough during work? Still want to touch after hours?

“Hallie, you’ve got some nerve. Do you touch everyone like this?”

“No! I don’t… I haven’t touched anyone else, only you…

“I’m really not like this usually, I swear. I’m normally very well-behaved. I just don’t know why, but every time I see you, I…”

That invisible force gently lifted my chin, forcing me to meet Owen’s gaze.

His refined, coldly handsome face filled my vision. I held my breath, but then…

I finally saw it clearly.

On top of his head were a pair of black, fluffy ears. The inside was a soft pink.

What the hell! Was Leo actually an incubus?!

So when my mom said “incubus”, she meant it literally and not as a description?!

“Stop staring. My ears are real. Want to touch them?”
