Chapter 3

The dense, shadowy foliage of the Umbral Forest swallowed Clara entirely, yet her bearing was unrecognizable from before. No longer a trembling refugee scrambling for survival, she moved with the quiet, lethal grace of a seasoned hunter, every step steady and alert.

For two full days, she had tracked low-tier wilderness beasts, claiming only a single Level 3 bio-core—far from enough to advance her rank.

She could distinctly feel the rigid power bottleneck lingering inside her body, the barriers of her Tier Three status already cracking, begging for a stronger surge of energy to shatter completely. A Level 4 core was her only key to breakthrough.

Suddenly, a deafening crash of snapping branches and a ferocious bestial roar tore through the forest’s oppressive silence, jolting every creature in the vicinity into hiding.

Clara instantly melted into the thick shadows, her senses sharpened to a razor edge. Pressing herself against the damp tree trunk, she peered through the layered foliage and caught sight of a brutal battle.

A tall, powerfully built man stood battered against a cluster of ancient trees, his noble Stryker Clan uniform torn and blood-soaked, golden hair matted with fresh crimson. This was Jaxon Stryker, a renowned elite warrior from the prestigious Stryker bloodline, renowned for their combat prowess and imperial military feats.

A towering Level 4 Bull-Beast, a monstrous mountain of rippling muscle and razor-sharp curved horns, charged at him relentlessly, each impact shaking the forest ground.

Jaxon fought with every ounce of desperate ferocity, his blade flashing rapidly to parry the beast’s strikes, but his injuries were grievous. A gaping, deep gash sliced across his entire back, staining the fallen leaves and soil in a wide pool of red. His movements were slowing, his stamina draining rapidly, and defeat was inevitable.

The enraged Bull-Beast lowered its massive head, tensing its muscular limbs for a fatal, unblockable killing charge.

In that split second, Clara’s mind flashed back to her own darkest days—endless helplessness, crushing despair, and the cruel loneliness of being abandoned with no one to turn to for salvation. She had clawed her way out of utter darkness entirely on her own. But for once, she could be the savior no one had ever been for her.

She burst out of the shadowed cover like a swift black wraith, moving faster than the eye could follow.

Her tempered hunting dagger was already drawn. With precise, brutal accuracy, she drove the blade straight into the beast’s vulnerable eye. The Bull-Beast let out a deafening, agonized bellow, blinded and sent into a frenzied rage, swinging its massive horns wildly in chaotic destruction. Clara weaved nimbly around its frantic charges, a phantom of lethal precision, slicing through the thick tendons in its fore and hind legs with every swift pass. The colossal beast stumbled clumsily, losing its balance, and Clara vaulted lightly onto its broad back, driving her dagger deep into the soft core at the base of its skull with cold, unwavering efficiency.

The massive Bull-Beast collapsed heavily to the ground, motionless. Thick silence fell over the blood-stained forest once more.

Jaxon Stryker stared dazedly at the hooded woman landing gracefully beside the beast’s corpse, his vision swimming from severe blood loss. Yet a unique scent cut through the heavy stench of blood and rot—fresh rain intertwined with faint floral sweetness, burning itself permanently into his memory. “Who…” he rasped hoarsely, struggling to push himself upright.

Without sparing him a glance, Clara tossed a sealed healing salve onto his lap. “Use it quickly. Your open wounds will draw feral scavenger beasts before nightfall.”

She knelt beside the carcass, carving out the pulsing, glowing Level 4 bio-core with clean, practiced movements and slipping it safely into her shielded storage box.

A sharp, thrilling warmth surged through her veins—this was exactly what she needed to break her rank bottleneck.

Before she could vanish into the shadows again, Jaxon caught a clear glimpse of her calm, refined profile beneath the lowered hood, fixating on her deep, unreadable dark brown eyes. “Wait. I am Jaxon Stryker, heir of the Stryker Clan. You have saved my life, and the Stryker Clan never abandons a debt of gratitude. Tell me your name.”

“No need.” Clara’s voice was low, steady, and unyielding. “This core is sufficient payment for your rescue.”

She faded back into the dense forest shadows before Jaxon could utter another word, leaving him stretching out a grasping hand toward empty air.

His vision dimmed as blood loss overwhelmed him, yet his heart thundered with fierce resolve. He would find this mysterious woman, no matter the cost.

Inside a hidden, sheltered forest hollow, Clara pressed the warm Level 4 core firmly to her chest and began absorbing its surging energy. Violent, tidal-wave power crashed through her body, bringing searing, agonizing pain. Drawing on the meticulous control from her past life, she guided the rampant energy steadily through her meridians. The sharp agony faded, replaced by the crisp sound of shattering ice—her Tier Three bottleneck finally broken.

A soft white light wrapped around her body before quickly dissipating. She was now a Level 4 citizen.

Her terminal chimed crisply. “Congratulations. You have qualified for advanced elite mate matching. Please proceed to the nearest Imperial Bonding Registry office.”

Hours later, freshly cleaned and dressed in sleek, dignified black attire, Clara stood calmly inside the bustling Imperium Bonding Registry. She pressed her palm flat against the identity scanner, her heart steady and unflinching.

“Identity confirmed: Clara. Age 20. Biological Level 4. Advanced elite matching protocol initiating.”

The cold synthesized system voice paused briefly, carrying a rare tone of official surprise. “Detected extreme genetic uniqueness and top-tier latent potential. System priority upgraded. Nine qualified elite potential mates have been matched for you.”

Clara’s eyes widened. Nine? It was an unprecedented number.
