Maimed Me for a Fake Heir, Now They Beg
Chapter 2
I coldly pried Heather's oil-slick hands off me and turned around to continue disassembling the rusty gears, treating Winona and the Lachmans as nothing more than the air around me.
"Get out," I said flatly. "There's no 'Godhand' here. Just a crippled mechanic."
My rejection enraged Winona.
She scoffed as a cruel but determined glint flickered in her eyes. She pulled out her phone and started livestreaming.
As the heiress of Green Group, she had millions of followers, which also meant that everything that she did attracted the attention of the entire city.
"Hi, everyone," she began. "This man is the true heir of the Lachman family who went missing for many years."
Winona aimed the camera at me, showing my filthy back that was covered in motor oil stains. She sounded upset, and her voice was thick with tears when she said, "Our entire family is begging him to save his brother, whose life is hanging in the balance.
"But he refuses to because he's jealous that Matthew is better than him. He also wants more of our family's fortune and is asking for an exorbitant amount of money. He's willing to stand by and let Matthew die if he doesn't get his way."
Chaos erupted in the livestream as comments flooded in.
"Oh my god. Is that the murderer doctor, Jamie Lachman? He's back to his old ways again, even after being released from prison?"
"So what if he's the true heir of the Lachman family? He's rotten to the core. He's tainting all the vehicles he's fixing."
"We should teach him a lesson! A bastard like him doesn't deserve to live. What's the address? I'm going to give him a piece of mind myself!"
I was completely calm even as I read the malicious comments.
In my previous life, I had placed too much importance on my reputation. I cared too much about their opinion of me, and I paid the price with my life.
In this life, I had made up my mind while I was still in prison.
I spent the last seven years honing my medical skills. I trained my left hand since my right hand was ruined. I also saved an old man with a shocking identity when I was still in prison.
Moments before the old man took his last breath, he transferred all his overseas, medical-related resources and connections to me.
After my early release from prison, I went into hiding, but not because I wanted to survive. Instead, I had been biding my time this entire time, waiting for this day to arrive.
I had been waiting for Matthew, the imposter who got to enjoy the fruits of my labor because he stole the results of my research, to tumble from his pedestal.
"Look at these comments, Jamie!" Terry exclaimed, pointing at Winona's phone, wearing a look of disdain. "You've become this city's public enemy now. If you refuse to save Matthew today, the Lachmans will cut all ties with you and make you disappear from this city!"
Heather's eyes were burning with resentment when she added, "How can you be so cruel, Jamie? Although Matthew's not our flesh and blood, we still raised him since he was a child. He's so much more mature than you! You'll be saving yourself as well if you save him!"
Any lingering familial affection I harbored for Heather and Terry dissipated as I looked at them.
"Fine."
I turned to look at the camera. A sinister smile stretched across my lips, causing a chill to run down the viewers' spines even though they were watching me through a screen.
"I guess I have no choice since you want me to perform surgery on him so badly. Let's go. I can only hope that you don't regret your decision later."
