Chapter 4

Kim Huxley arrived at John F Kennedy International airport where he awaits his PA to come to pick him up.

He wore a white shirt that was nicely tucked inside his black trouser. He wore shiny black shoes and he had his suitcase with him. Everyone that saw him knew him, especially his fans that had been waiting for him since yesterday.

"Kim! I love you," some girls screamed.

"I love you!"

Kim waved at them with a cute smile on his face. He was glad there were officers there to keep them in place.

He checked his time it was 8 am and whoever was going to pick him wasn't there yet. He dialed Mr. Owen's number, but unfortunately, it was switched off.

He was already losing his patient. If he had known such would happen, he would have come with some of his brothers.

Riele woke up late only for her to check her phone and see twenty missed calls. She quickly showered, brushed her teeth, and put on her jumpsuit and canvas. She packed her curly hair in a Ponytail. She took a white cap and her glasses just in case he wants to throw a fit.

She ran out of the house as a call came in from an unknown number. She wasn't in any mood to pick up any strange calls. She boarded a taxi that took her to the airport. She paid the driver as she searched for the guy. She forgot to bring the file, how on earth was she going to identify him now?

She heard some group of girls screaming 'Kim Huxley'. She moved closer to see if it was the same person. She has never seen his color of skin before.

He wore a white shirt and black trousers and he had eyeglasses on. She moved closer to him and to be honest she must admit, he looks handsome. She tried to find her voice. "Excuse me," she said tapping the young man.

He turned to face her and the moment their eyes met, she almost lost her balance. Good thing I am not wearing heels. She thought as Kim removed his glasses, he took a good look at her. He didn't say any word to her. He put on his glasses and handed his suitcase to her as he waited for her to lead the way.

Riele already must admit she doesn't like him. He's probably a rich spoilt brat. She thought as she boarded a taxi.

The driver took the luggage and put it inside his booth while Riele waited for him to get in before she did. The driver came inside the car, started the engine, and zoomed off.

Kim's phone rang as he looked at Riele before picking up the call. "Bro," he called.

Riele turned to see the smile on his face. He's cute no doubt.

"Yes, I have gotten there." He replied.

After a pause, he looked at her before replying. "She looks okay."

Riele felt so uncomfortable around him. She watched him with keen interest trying to see if she can make out a few words, but he started whispering on the phone and she couldn't make out what he was saying.

He hung up and waited for the car to come to a halt before he got down. Riele went to get the suitcase from the booth as she followed him to the office.

Everyone had gathered around waiting for the arrival of the new CEO. Immediately Kim and Riele entered the office. Some ladies lost their sanity. The started to scream his name.

Riele turned to look at them only to see that some painted their faces. She tried so hard to hold her laughter. She glance at her friend who gave her a death sentence look. Riele could tell she was in trouble with her.

"Welcome, Kim," Mr. Owen said as he shook his hand. "Everyone this is Kim Huxley. He's the new CEO and I'd like for you all to behave yourself around him. And to you ladies... be careful," he warned.

He gave way for Kim to introduce himself and say a few words.

"Thank you, Mr. Owen," he said. "I'm Kim Huxley and I will cut to the chase. I don't like ladies that paint their faces to impress me," he said as he pointed to a few ladies. "I don't like tardiness," he directed his gaze to Riele. "I don't like to explain myself twice. I like things to be done in a neat and organized manner. If I see anyone who is not working when he or she should, I won't hesitate to fire that individual. If there are more things I think you all should know, I'll let you know."

Everyone clapped after he gave his speech. Mr. Owen then walked him to his office.

Riele sighed as she went to meet Charlotte. "Okay,  before you kill me, can you tell me why you called? And I got your text," she said as Charlotte pulled her closer.

"Did you find what I told you to search for?" She asked.

"Um... Just a few words. I don't know what you want me to look for exactly."

"Pea brain," Charlotte teased. She showed Riele a picture of Diamond Boys where Kim Huxley's picture was easy to view. "Now, look at this." She gave the phone to her as Riele looked at it.

"Wait! This is our boss," she said. "He's a member of Diamond Boys?" Riele asked in shock.

"Not only is our boss cute and handsome, but he's also a singer and a dancer."

"Not to forget he's rude and a heartless jerk!"

"I can't wait to get him to touch me," one of the girls called Amber said as Riele and Charlotte looked at her in disgust before going back to their discussion.

"This new CEO is going to render so many hearts broken. I can't wait!" Riele said.

"Riele Grants!" Mr. Owen called and she could tell that from the tone of his voice, she was in big trouble.

I stood frozen in the doorway of our bridal suite, my wedding gown still rustling around my ankles, as Mauricio ushered in a woman I'd never seen before. My heart, which had been fluttering with anticipation of our first night together as husband and wife, suddenly felt like lead in my chest. "Violeta, this is Selene Garcia," Mauricio said casually, as if bringing a stranger into our wedding suite was the most natural thing in the world. "She needs my help." The woman—Selene—hobbled forward, leaning heavily on a cane. Her dark hair cascaded down her back, and despite her apparent disability, she moved with a certain grace that made me instantly self-conscious. She offered me a timid smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "I'm so sorry to intrude on such a special night," she murmured. "But my leg... the pain is unbearable." Mauricio guided her to our bed—our marriage bed—and helped her sit. I remained rooted to the spot, my wedding bouquet still clutched in my trembling hands.
Birthday Betrayal Unveiled Novel Cover

I woke to the gentle buzz of my phone alarm, the morning light filtering through the floor-to-ceiling windows of our Manhattan penthouse. For a moment, I allowed myself to imagine that today might be different. That Alexander might remember. That he might care. It was my thirtieth birthday. The space beside me in our king-sized bed was cold and empty, as it had been every morning for the past three years of our marriage. I ran my fingers over the untouched pillow, wondering if he'd even slept here last night. Sometimes Alexander didn't come home at all, citing late shoots or early call times. I'd stopped asking months ago. I padded across the marble floor to the kitchen, my bare feet silent against the cold stone.

The hardwood floor felt cool beneath my bare feet as I navigated the familiar path down the hallway of our penthouse. My fingers trailed lightly along the wall, counting doorways—a habit I'd developed in the three years since losing my sight. I didn't really need my white cane inside our home anymore, but I carried it anyway, tapping occasionally for reassurance. I was heading to retrieve my sketchbook from the library. Though I couldn't see my drawings anymore, the act of creating—feeling the texture of the paper, the glide of charcoal between my fingers—remained one of my few remaining connections to my former life as an artist. The low rumble of male laughter drifted from Connor's study. My husband was entertaining friends tonight—something about celebrating a business merger. He'd kissed my forehead earlier, his cologne lingering as he suggested I rest in our bedroom. 'Just boring business talk, my sweet, helpless girl,' he'd murmured, his thumb brushing my cheek in that possessive way of his. I was about to pass the study when Connor's voice, loosened by what I assumed was expensive scotch, carried clearly through the partially open door.
