Chapter 2

SIENNA'S POV

After Adrian left, the hospital room settled into a heavy quiet.

I picked up the metallic flash drive from the table. My fingers shook slightly as I plugged it into my tablet.

The video loaded instantly. It showed the full, uncut security feed from Room 801.

At 2:14 AM, I walked in and sat on the far armchair. Adrian handed me a thick manila folder containing bank statements and extortion letters from an offshore creditor targeting Carter’s private fund. We started reviewing the balance sheets. There was no touching. We barely sat within five feet of each other.

At 2:50 AM, an overhead sprinkler head near the decorative fireplace malfunctioned, spraying water across the sofa and soaking my dress. Adrian handed me a clean sweatshirt from his travel bag, pointed to the guest bathroom, and stepped onto the balcony to make a phone call until I came out.

When I came back out, we returned to the files and kept working until I left.

Every second was documented. There was no affair.

Then I paused the video and looked at the technical overlay in the top right corner.

A small, familiar watermark flashed across the bottom frame: *VMP-CAM-04*.

My stomach dropped. That wasn't hotel security footage. That was the proprietary lens code for Vale Media Productions.

The cameras hadn't been set up by hotel staff or intrusive paparazzi. They had been installed by my family's production crew. My own mother had staged the recording.

A sharp cramp tore through my lower abdomen as I stood up, but I ignored the physical pain. I pulled on the dark coat hanging in the wardrobe, ripped the hospital wristband from my arm, and walked out.

Thirty minutes later, I pushed open the double doors to Diane’s executive office at Vale Media headquarters.

My mother was sitting behind her glass desk, a cup of green tea in hand, reviewing real-time engagement charts on a massive monitor. She barely blinked when she saw me standing in front of her, pale and bleeding into hospital gauze.

"You should be resting, Sienna," Diane said smoothly, not even looking up from her screen. "The press is circling the building."

I tossed the flash drive onto her polished desk. It skidded across the glass and stopped beside her keyboard.

"You filmed it," I said, my voice dead and level. "You had your crew rig Adrian's hotel suite."

Diane didn't look surprised. She set her teacup down with a quiet clink.

"The show was losing momentum," Diane said, leaning back in her leather chair. "Our third-quarter projections were down twelve percent. A picture-perfect marriage doesn't pull twenty million viewers anymore. Audiences want conflict."

"You framed me for infidelity on national television."

"It was a planned arc," Diane countered, her tone entirely practical. "The blueprint was simple. Carter was supposed to see the teaser, get jealous, and give us six episodes of high-stakes marriage counseling. Then, for the mid-season finale, we would release the full tape, clear your name, and make you the most sympathetic woman in America. Our ratings would have tripled."

I stared at her, feeling a cold numbness spread through my chest.

"I lost my baby on those stairs, Diane."

For half a second, something shifted in Diane's eyes, but it vanished behind her polished veneer just as quickly.

"I didn't know he'd push you," Diane said. "Carter wasn't supposed to react like that. It was an unfortunate variable."

An unfortunate variable.

She wasn't mourning her grandchild. She was annoyed that Carter’s temper had derailed her production schedule.

"Get out of my sight," I whispered.

"Sienna, be realistic," Diane said, standing up. "We can still salvage the narrative. We tell the press you're recovering from a tragic accident, we drop the full tape next week, and Carter comes back on his knees. It will be the biggest television event of the decade."

"If you ever put a camera near me again," I said, meeting her eyes, "I will burn this company to the ground."

***

I didn't go back to our house. I returned to the private recovery room at the hospital, sitting by the window in the cold silence.

An hour later, the door swung open.

Carter walked in, still wearing the charcoal suit from last night. His tie was loosened, his hair slightly disheveled, and his eyes were bloodshot. He carried the heavy tension of a man whose world was spinning out of control.

"Sienna," he said, stepping toward the bed. "Your mother called me. She said Wolfe gave you the raw file."

A faint, bitter ache flared in my chest. For one foolish second, I thought he had come because he cared that I was empty inside. I thought he might ask if I was in pain.

"Where is it?" Carter asked, his voice strained. "If this footage clears you, I can fix the narrative with the sponsors. We can issue a joint statement before the stock market closes."

I looked up at him from the armchair. "Is that why you're here? For the narrative?"

Carter ran a hand through his hair, pacing the narrow space between the bed and the wall. "Do you have any idea what's happening out there? SVÉRA's stock is crashing. People are calling for a boycott because they think you cheated and I attacked you. I need that video to show the public that nothing happened in that room."

I studied his face—the sharp jawline, the familiar eyes that I had loved for four years.

"Carter," I said quietly. "Forget the cameras. Forget the press."

He stopped pacing and looked at me.

"Without that video," I asked, "do you believe me?"

The room went completely still.

Carter stared at me. He opened his mouth, but no words came out. His jaw tightened. He shifted his weight, his eyes darting away from mine toward the floor.

"Sienna, that’s not fair," he muttered. "You went to another man's suite at two in the morning."

"Answer the question," I said. "Do you believe me?"

Carter swallowed hard, his voice dropping into a defensive mumble. "I believe evidence."

Those three words hit harder than the fall down the marble stairs.

Four years of marriage. Four years of building his brand, protecting his secrets, and carrying his child. And none of it was worth a single ounce of trust without a timestamped recording.

"Good," I said.

The side door clicked open. My family attorney, Marcus Cole, stepped into the room holding a leather folder. I had called him thirty minutes before Carter arrived.

Marcus walked over and placed the open folder on the small table beside me.

I picked up the pen without a moment of hesitation. I flipped to the final page and signed my name in clean, dark ink.

"What is that?" Carter asked, taking a sudden step forward.

"Divorce papers," I said, sliding the document back to Marcus. "You don't need to fix the narrative, Carter. You can have the full footage. You can give it to the press, give it to your sponsors, and clear your precious reputation."

I looked him straight in the eyes.

"Then spend the rest of your life with evidence."

Carter’s face went completely pale. The arrogant certainty drained out of him all at once.

"Sienna, wait—no," Carter stammered, reaching out to grab my arm. "We can work through this. We just need to talk—"

The moment his fingers reached toward me, I pulled back sharply, pressing myself against the back of the chair.

Carter froze. Seeing my reaction seemed to strike him harder than anything I had said. His hand hovered in the empty air, trembling slightly.

I reached up to my left hand. With a steady pull, I slid the three-carat diamond ring off my finger.

I took his outstretched hand, turned his palm upward, and dropped the cold metal into his grip.

"We're done," I said.

I pulled my coat tight around my shoulders and walked past him toward the exit.

When I pushed the heavy doors open to the main lobby, the sudden barrage of flashing lights blinded me. Dozens of press cameras were already lined up across the glass entryway, waiting to capture the first images of the ruined Sienna Vale.
