Chapter 5

EMMA

I watched him storm away, not believing he would starve me for saying that. 'Perhaps this is for the best,' I thought while relaxing back into my chair. If I keep pushing him, he will eventually take me back home. Ignoring the way my stomach was protesting, I looked around and then picked up the fashion magazine laying in one of the seats.

"Is there any way you can tame that animal inside your stomach? I could hear it all the way from where I was sitting," Ana said as she stopped beside me. "You know, if you want to eat, all you must do is ask and listen to Alpha. No one disobeys him, especially not a captive."

"What's your job again? Sticking your nose in someone else's business, or offering your shitty opinion that doesn't matter? Last time I checked, you are a flight attendant.” I retorted, which made her scoff at me.

"Which is so much better than being a prisoner," she fired back. I stood up and we both glared at each other. It was only when she saw Jet coming, that she broke eye contact and left. Without a look in my direction, he sat down where he had previously gotten up from.

Soon, I fell asleep, only to be woken up by the aroma of food. Guess I wasn't really sleeping then. Jet looked at me from above the newspaper he was reading, making me go red.

Come on! Why do I have to blush everytime I catch him staring at me? Not that he hides it. He stared at me openly, like I was made for him to stare at. I cleared my throat and straightened up in my seat. Geez! We are going to be on this thing for two days? Where the hell are we going? The end of earth? Or is it hell?

"You must be hungry," he remarked, "and your hero is nowhere to be seen." I wish I could wipe off that smirk on his face with my fist. But then, he proceeded to help me set and dish out the food.

"And you were supposed to be starving me," it came out way before I could stop it. I hurriedly shut my mouth, not wanting to say anything that would make him angry enough to take the food away again.

"Others would be grateful for my kindness,' he stated. Kindness? I scoffed. I watched him as he started to cut up my food. It wasn't pasta, but Chinese rice and chicken. I glared at him, swallowing the urge to remind him that I wasn't a child, and could cut up my own bloody meat.

"I am grateful," I finally said, filling the silence, "I just hate your guts and can't stand you." That made him chuckle. He finished cutting up my chicken, then picked up his phone. Aside from that, he didn't say anything else and I focused on eating.

Kale announced his presence by first bowing in Jet's direction, which had me looking at him. Say what now? Is he a king or what? I rolled my eyes at them, I have a feeling this Kale guy was messing with me.

"Eat." He ordered when he noticed I was watching them.

I rolled my eyes at him again but continued to eat anyway. I made sure to listen to their conversation though, in case this might be my last meal.

"Is something wrong Kale?" He asked.

"I wanted to give you updates about our journey like you asked Alpha. We have a day left to arrive at the pack," he responded and Jet nodded. Kale gave me a half smile, that I didn't return, as he strolled away in the direction he came from.

"Alpha? What is that supposed to mean? Pack? Is that the name of the place you are taking me?" I wished I had a cellphone so I could at least Google the place. I licked the stain of food I felt at the corner of my mouth, a part of me enjoying the way Jet's eyes seemed to darken. I might be a virgin, but I wasn't niave. 'The pervert was probably imagining me licking his disgusting prick,' Why did I even think that?!

"Finish your food." I didn't dare argue with that.

Two hours later, I was groaning from boredom. I have never stayed in one place for so long, doing nothing, and I was sick and tired of seeing Jet's stupid face. It was killing me. I worked at a small bookstore down the street from my house, of course my dad was unaware of it as I wasn't allowed to go anywhere, talk more, or have a job. So I was used to staying busy, the exact opposite of the situation I was now in.

"Can I borrow your cell phone? I'd like to make some calls."

"No," he replied and I wasn't surprised. "Is there not a rule about no active devices on a plane? I may not understand much of the human traditions on how things are run, but I do believe I know a few." He dropped the newspaper, so his gaze was now focused on me.

"Human? What are you, aliens?" I gasped, realizing that could be true. Especially his eyes, and the way he speaks. But I thought aliens are ugly creatures? Well, I haven't seen one before, but-, "I don't work for the government or with them," I quickly rushed out.

To my surprise, he merely smirked and leaned closely towards me, turning whatever I was going to say into a breathless whisper. He was close, so close I could feel his breath on my face. If I moved an inch, then our lips would definitely touch and I badly wanted to move. His eyes were on my lips and mine dropped to his too. The air suddenly became thicker, just as his eyes turned darker. There wasn't much oxygen for me, I felt so breathless, like I have been running a marathon or something.

The severity of his gaze on my lips caused me to shiver, and he moved even closer to me. My breath became shallow until they turned into pants. What is happening to me? My eyes closed on their own accord as he pressed his lips to the corner of my mouth. Despite the voice screaming in my head to move away, I couldn't move my limbs. My body was betraying me.

Maybe it was because I didn't want to move? I hated myself for wanting this, and my hands moved up to his shoulders to push him away, but instead, I was pulling him closer. I stood still, waiting for the pressure of his lips, but it never came.

'Why won't he fucking kiss me?' I don't care, I still hate him, but I want his lips on mine.

"Jet?" My voice sounded so strange to my own ears.

I guess that was all he needed, my permission to kiss me. I didn't even have time to reflect on that before I felt his lips capture mine in a kiss that made me dizzy.

"Mine!" he said with so much possession, as his lips claimed mine.

I stared at the computer screen, my fingers hovering over the keyboard as I edited Marcus's anniversary post. Five years together. The study was quiet except for the soft ticking of the antique clock that had belonged to Marcus's father—a wedding gift that symbolized the continuation of the Silvermoon Pack's leadership. "To my beloved mate, my heart's true home..." I read the words aloud, feeling a hollowness where warmth should be. It had been six months since we lost Emma. Six months of trying to breathe through the pain, of Marcus being my rock, my Alpha, my everything. I clicked to schedule the post, then absently scrolled through the pack's social media feed. Marcus was meticulous about maintaining our public image—the perfect Alpha pair leading the Silvermoon Pack with strength and grace. My finger froze mid-scroll when a familiar phrase caught my eye.

The dust of the Rogue Lands still coated my tongue, a gritty reminder of the three months I’d spent fighting back-to-back with the man walking beside me. The Silverclaw Pack territory opened up before us, a sprawling expanse of pine and fog that usually signaled safety. Today, it felt different. Heavier. I touched the flat of my stomach, a subconscious gesture I was still getting used to. My wolf, Vex, purred in the back of my mind, sensing the tiny spark of life growing inside me. An heir. A pup created from the blood and sweat of the battlefield, forged in the heat of the fated bond I shared with Alpha Preston Graham. "We made it," I murmured, looking up at him. His jaw was set, his eyes fixed on the gathering crowd ahead.

The soft chime of the Moonveil Medical Clinic's front desk barely registered as I sorted through the morning's patient files. My hands moved with practiced efficiency, arranging the folders by severity and specialty—a ritual that had become as natural as breathing over my seven years as Pack Healer. The scent of antiseptic and healing herbs filled the air, a comforting familiarity that had always centered me. I looked up at the sound of hesitant footsteps, my eyes finding Kylie Hudson standing near the entrance. My mentee's usual confidence seemed muted today, replaced by an unusual nervousness that made her fidget with the hem of her shirt. Her scent carried a strange mix of excitement and anxiety. 'Healer Fox,' she began, her voice softer than usual. 'I wanted to thank you personally for everything you've done for me. I know I'm just an Omega, but your mentorship has meant the world.' I set down the file I'd been reviewing and gave her my full attention. 'Kylie, you don't need to thank me.

The voices drifted through the pack house hallway like smoke, seeping under the door of the storage room where I knelt sorting seed packets for spring planting. I shouldn't have been able to hear them—the thick oak doors usually muffled conversations—but my wolf had been restless all morning, sharpening my senses without permission. "Did you see the delegation list?" A young warrior's voice, excited and gossipping. "Alpha Marcus, Oliver, Beta Thomas, and... Kylee Hamilton as diplomatic advisor." "No Luna Elle?" Another voice, female, surprised. My hands stilled on the packets. Calendula. Chamomile. The Latin names blurred. "Guess she's not sophisticated enough for European negotiations." The first voice again, dropping lower but not low enough.
