Chapter 2

She snatched the cup from my hands and poured the scalding coffee over the back of my hand without a second thought.

“With your clumsy hands, I really don’t understand how you even got into Grant Holdings. I bet you didn’t get here by playing fair, did you?

“You’re doomed! Wait till you get fired!”

I clenched my fists until my nails dug into my palms, the sting fueling my rising anger.

Just as I was about to snap, the HR supervisor rushed forward, blocking my path.

“I’m so sorry, Ms. Moore! She’s new. I apologize on her behalf. Please don’t get upset; it’s not worth harming your health over such a small thing!”

She whispered to me while subtly holding my arm:

“Hold it in! Don’t react! Think about her status. We could lose our entire year-end bonus! Don’t waste energy on someone like her. Leave it to me.”

Vivian looked at the supervisor’s submissive posture, finally satisfied, and slowly pulled out a wet wipe to clean her fingers.

“Hmph, finally, someone who knows their place,” she said arrogantly. “Come on, I’ll take you to inspect the cafeteria.”

Inspect the cafeteria? What right did an outsider have to inspect the company’s internal cafeteria?

“Ms. Moore, the company cafeteria has strict rules. Outsiders can’t enter freely…” I started to warn.

Before I could finish, the supervisor tugged me forcefully.

“Don’t you get it? She’s Mr. Grant’s favorite. You can still navigate if you offend him, but offend her, and you’ll disappear without knowing how. Mr. Grant has spoiled her completely. Everyone in the company already knows. She’s the real lady of Grant Holdings! Our livelihoods are in her hands! Don’t take risks during your internship.”

The real lady of Grant Holdings? How could I, the legitimate wife, not know this?

Seeing me standing frozen, Vivian sneered:

“Oh, scared just hearing Mr. Grant’s name?

“Let me tell you, someone like Mr. Grant is way out of reach for a lowly intern like you. One word from him and you wouldn’t be able to survive in this industry. Understand?”

While I stayed silent, Vivian strutted into the employee cafeteria.

“Oh my, what kind of food do employees eat here?” she said, picking up a piece of braised pork with her fingers and tossing it aside.

Then she pulled a food container from her Hermès bag and slammed it onto the serving counter:

“Clearly, you’ve never had anything good. Fine, I’m in a good mood today. Let’s add some top-notch delicacies to your lunch!”

She opened the container, ready to pour it into the communal food bins.

“Ms. Moore! Absolutely not!” the cafeteria manager finally stepped in, anxious.

“The company’s food safety rules forbid any outside food from mixing with employee meals. It’s for everyone’s health! Please cooperate.”

“Rules? Safety?” Vivian laughed as if hearing a joke.

“My food is less safe than your oil-slicked stir-fry? Do you know my container is worth more than your annual salary?”

“Step aside!” the manager said firmly.

“Ms. Moore, this is a matter of principle! If any food safety incident occurs, we can’t take responsibility! Please don’t put us in a difficult position.”

Vivian’s face darkened. She took out her phone and started a video call.

“Evan, look! Your employees are rebelling! I just wanted to improve their meals, and they won’t let me! They even yelled at me!”

Evan’s gentle voice came through:

“Yun Yun, don’t be upset. Give the phone to the cafeteria manager.”

Vivian smugly shoved the screen in front of the manager.

Evan’s voice immediately turned icy:

“All relevant personnel, apologize to Ms. Moore immediately! If you don’t, each of you will be treated as severely negligent. This month’s salaries and bonuses will be fully deducted! I mean it!”
