Chapter 1

I sent my boyfriend to prison with my own two hands.

He asked me why.

"Probably because... you got the most important person in my life killed."

1

"Yara Valerius, I never fucking thought you'd be the one to stab me in the back!"

My boyfriend, Wyatt Crestwell, cried out in despair before me, reaching to snatch the ledgers from my hands.

But he'd just been injured, and even talking to me seemed to take all the strength he had.

The ledgers chronicled Wyatt Crestwell's many crimes: dirty money, black-market enterprises, and even... the fact that he had blood on his hands.

This was more than enough to ruin him completely and send him straight to hell.

"I was so good to you. Why would you do this?"

Wyatt Crestwell was panting for breath, but he stubbornly demanded an answer.

I glanced at the flowers and cake on the table.

Come to think of it, today was our fifth anniversary.

The cake was even shaped like one of the cute Sunshine Pals.

"Do you know why I like the Sunshine Pals?"

I looked at Wyatt Crestwell and chuckled softly.

"I've heard that death row inmates get to pick a song for their execution day. The most requested one is the theme from *Sunshine Pals*. Tell me, what kind of look do you think you'll have on your face when it's your turn?"

My boyfriend's eyes went wide, his pupils losing focus.

When the police arrived, I handed the ledgers over to them.

I had to go with them to give a statement. In the interrogation room, an officer asked me why I did it.

"After all, from what we've gathered, your boyfriend loved you very much. He even ordered a ring from overseas last month."

Hearing this, I just nodded faintly.

'If he hadn't ordered that ring from abroad, I never would have been able to trace his offshore accounts, let alone find the evidence of his illegal asset transfers.'

"Isn't cooperating with the police and seeing justice done the duty of every citizen?"

The words had barely left my lips when I suddenly heard a woman's soft chuckle. It sounded vaguely familiar.

But the two officers interrogating me were both men.

I lowered my gaze and continued my statement.

I'd been with Wyatt Crestwell for five years and knew him inside and out. There was just so much to tell them.

By the time all the information was compiled and I'd signed my name, it was already evening when I walked out.

People on the street were still talking about what happened this morning at Azure Plaza—how the Second Young Master Crestwell had jumped from the building.

Who in all of Astral City didn't know the Crestwell Family?

A prestigious and powerful family that had been entrenched for years.

But as of this morning, with the Second Young Master Crestwell jumping to his death and the Eldest Young Master's arrest, the family was destined to be no more.

The police had already seized all of Wyatt Crestwell's assets, including the house we used to live in.

It didn't matter, though. I had no desire to go back there.

I called for a car and squatted by the curb to wait. While waiting, I immediately changed my phone's wallpaper and lock screen.

To maintain my facade as a doting fool, I had plastered his picture on everything I could.

Now, I was tempted to just wipe the whole phone.

"Such a fat pig's face. Another glance and my eyes will feel dirty."

I muttered, rapidly deleting the photos.

There was no one around, but that soft chuckle sounded by my ear again.

My hand froze. I suddenly felt a chill wind blow from behind.

An icy gust blew right into my ear.

"Ya... ra..."

At the sound of that voice, it felt as if a hand were squeezing my throat shut.

After a long moment, I finally found my voice.

"Jenna Lowe, are you insane?!"
