Chapter 5

I struggled to look up at them. "Legitimate wife? Baby? How can you be so heartless, Victor? Our baby is dead, you're the one who killed him!" I was gasping as I accused Victor of his crime hysterically.

Victor frowned impatiently. "What are you talking about? Isn't it enough that you killed Leia? How can you wish that on your child now? You're gone mad, Isabella!"

I pressed my lips with disappointment and roared at him, "How dare you even mention our baby? What right do you have to do that? Do you know that he was fully formed? But you didn't even give him the chance to come to this world because of your selfishness! Aren't you afraid our baby will come looking for you for revenge in the middle of the night, Victor?"

Victor was taken aback as he released Aurora from his arms, his face filled with disbelief. He came up to me. "How did he… Aren't you already eight months pregnant?"

I sneered and pulled the covers off me to reveal my flat belly. I had lost the baby. When the nurse took the baby out of my belly, he was already purple all over. Victor's hands trembled as he reached out for my belly, but that was when Aurora suddenly exclaimed.

"Victor, I can't hide this from you any longer. I left this time because I saw Isabella cheating on you with her gigolo during the day. She lost the baby while they were busy fooling around with each other. Isabella would kill me if I didn't make a run for it.

"Think about it, Victor. Why did Leia die? Who could be important enough for Isabella to protect to the point of taking another life? She planned to blame you for the baby's death because she lost him long ago and make you feel guilty about it!"

Aurora's words were like an explosion to Victor's ears. He took a step back, as if he had suddenly seen the truth. "Aurora is right. You have been refusing to let me touch you since you got pregnant, and it's because all you care about is that side piece of yours!"

I laughed angrily at how Victor was convincing himself of this 'truth'.

"Do you remember what day this is? I lost the baby because I took a bullet for Don Russo. Where were you then? You were supposed to be protecting him, but where did you go? If you hadn't gone to see Aurora, our baby wouldn't have died!"

I wiped away my tears in agitation. "Do you know that our son could almost be born peacefully?"

However, Victor did not believe anything I said. There was murder in his eyes as he pulled out his handgun and pressed it to my forehead. "Don Russo? It's that gigolo of yours that caused the baby's death. How dare a filthy couple like you do something so disgusting in bright daylight? Do you think I'm dead?"

"Tell me where that son of a bitch is, or I'll sell you to the whorehouse! I'd like to see how stubborn you are then! As for that dirty bastard, I'll kill him and tear his corpse apart!"

Warm blood dripped from my wound, but I was chilled to the core as the cold muzzle pressed onto my forehead. That was when heavy footsteps could be heard outside the door. "Is that so, Victor? I'm the 'dirty bastard' you're talking about. Are you really planning to tear my corpse apart?"

The humiliation made me collapse, and I woke up in a hospital bed to a shocking truth: I was pregnant.
